ARC Book Review: The Thirteenth Guardian by K.M. Lewis
The Thirteenth Guardian - K.M. Lewis

"The Thirteenth Guardian" is written really well. It is for the young adult genre but it really seem like it could be for adults as well. I was really captive while reading this book. The story is really good. Yes, it does not go into the characters to much as to detail. That is okay with me given that I am thinking the events that is taking place around the world is what this book is mostly about.

It made it so real. I am not wondering if this could happen to our world in a few months. Are we getting close the the end times as it suggest in the bible. Where their will be a new world to come? The author put you into the story and start to wonder is what going to happen now. It pulls you think about our own history.

The six characters that are to go on a mission have special traits. They all have them which is the shuttering's, blinding headaches and one other thing. We get a history text that might bring the past and present and the future together. The book is worth reading. What a story. I felt like this could be real. I was left with sleepless nights.

Sweet Siren: Those Notorious Americans, Book 3
Sweet Siren: Those Notorious Americans, Book 3 - Cerise DeLand The anatomy of an unforgettable story is to delight readers. Deland does so by imagineering women of strength, men of courage and hours of romance. Sweet Siren gives a second chance to a heartbroken father and a determined widow. Olivia is a firecracker. Outspoken, opinionated and obnoxious but always true to herself. Killian is everything she despises in a man. Rude, ruthless and frustratingly tempting. So why won't her head, listen to heart? Deland can can enchant a heart with her brand of wit. From her adorable characters, to her humorous dialogue and heartwarming storylines, she raises the bar higher with every sexy tale she writes.

Siren's Fury (The Storm Siren Trilogy Book 2)
Siren's Fury (The Storm Siren Trilogy Book 2) - Mary Weber 2.5 stars; I found Siren's Fury to be a rather frustrating read. Nym made some really stupid decisions. She did a lot of acting on emotion instead of thinking things through. In the first book, Storm Siren I thought Nym was portrayed as a slave pretty well, even though we only got her memories of this owner and that owner and next to no back story on that part of her life. This time though, I felt like Nym being a former slave just didn't ring true, because anyone who has been a slave for almost their entire life would know when to keep quiet and say nothing instead of continuously objecting to something that they are powerless to change and their objections will only make a situation worse.

I also felt that too many of the good characters were killed off in book one and there wasn't anyone likeable enough to replace them in this book. Rasha was ok, and we did get a few moments where it looked like a real friendship was blossoming there with her and Nym, but it kept being ruined partly by Nym's stupidity and partly by Rasha's refusal to tell Nym things that were important, which is another thing that annoyed me about the book, too many people keeping vital information to themselves for no good reason. Kel, at first was an interesting character, but then disappeared for a huge chunk of the book. I was beginning to wonder why he was even introduced but then it became obvious that his character was just a device to spur Nym on to doing something stupid. This is the point where I felt like Nym being a former slave didn't ring true. And maybe that would have made more since and felt less stupid if there had actually been a lot more interaction between Nym and Kel to begin with, but as it was written, they really barely knew each other.

I got a little bored with the repetitiveness of the story. How many times did Nym try to get rid of Draewulf? I lost count. She and everyone else in the book just seemed so inept through most of it. There were other little things that bothered me, like the airship suddenly dipping and they are all still standing on the deck instead of being knocked off their feet, but I guess the biggest problem I had with this book was that I just didn't like Nym the way I did in the first book. I missed the powerful Storm Siren from book one.

So over-all this was a disappointing read that has an unresolved ending. It's book two in a trilogy and I probably will end up reading book three to see how it all ends, and in hopes that the last book is on par with the first one.

Lovely clean romance in a fantasy world
Siren Tamer: Book One of the Siren Tamer Series (Volume 1) - Sofia St. Angeles,McKenna Gardner,Fiona Jayde

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Years ago the Kahlotah helped a group of people from the Nazahpas defect to their lands where they now call themselves Anonlah. They live peacefully in Kahlotah lands even though many of the Kahlotah people resent the sacrifice of their men in battle when they helped the Anaonlah defect. Many years have passed and Gideon and his Band of Brothers have come under the attention of Nemmin, the Kahlotah Chief Captain. He has a job offer for Gideon and his Brothers, to guard the Princess Aliya when the King travels to Nazahpas lands to negotiate another treaty. However, when Gideon and Aliya meet there is something more going on that neither understand. The Whisperings tell Gideon she’s the One and Aliya is doing her best to avoid touching him despite the overwhelming urge to do so. Both are unsure what their gifts are trying to tell them and those who know aren’t talking. Will they figure it all out in time to prevent tragedy?

It took me a bit to figure out the world in this YA Fantasy, but once I did I fell into it only to surface occasionally when the characters uttered current slang which sounded wrong for this richly detailed world. Gideon is a wonderful hero. I love him. Aliya is a snobbish rich beyotch and I could not stand her for most of the book. I could and yet I couldn’t understand her loyalty to her dumbass boyfriend, Zaeron. Wow. What a douchebag that guy is and yet Aliya puts up with him. I find it hard to believe a Princess would allow a lowly guard treat her the way he does. Anyway, there’s also some mysterious goings on behind the scenes to pique my interest, but then there’s a cliffhanger. Grrr! Overall though this is a lovely clean romance set in a fantasy world.

Siren Warrior: Ravenous Brutality [Book 10]
Siren Warrior: Ravenous Brutality [Book 10] - Lindsey Bayer,Michelle Marquis Ravenous Brutality obviously part of a series starts of very quickly possibly where the rest of the series leaves off and right away you are pulled into Kharon and Gypsy's story. Right off the bat I really sympathized with Kharon and his suffering, I also sympathized with Gypsy for watching the man she loved suffer so much. From the beginning you are tied to the characters emotional struggle to cope with what is happening to Kharon.
It was interesting to see Kharon actually going through the stages of a person that's actually dying. What I felt the most was how much Gypsy cared for her husband but what turned me off so much about her was how inactive she was to do anything about it. You can easily sense Gypsy's struggle but instead of being a strong partner for her husband she seems to just spent most of the time wallowing despite the occasions that her stubbornness seems to seep through I hoped to see more of.
There are quite a few strange twists and turns in the story but all in all was a really great read.
