Stranded With The Alien Assassin (Celestial Mates, #3) by Marla Therron Review
Alien Romance: Stranded With The Alien Assassin: Scifi Alien Abduction Romance (Alien Romance, Alien Invasion Romance, BBW) (Celestial Mates Book 3) - Marla Therron

In a shocking turn of events, Jayne Mannet ends up stranded with an alien assassin, causing a conflict between her heart and her head.

In Imdali, it has always been about what the eye doesn’t see.

To a fast-talking girl from New York, it was never a place Jayne Mannet should have been. Being kidnapped and sold to the highest bidder, Jayne must find a way to escape and make her way back home, all the while trying not to lose her humanity in the process.

But that becomes difficult when one of them responsible for her kidnapping, a mysterious, secretive alien named D’Anil Troga, becomes closer and closer to her in ways that Jayne could have never expected, causing a conflict between her heart and her head.

Review

This has a cold assassin as the hero. He is not a good guy. He is saturated in apathy.

The heroine is abducted and sold as a slave. I like her a great deal.

The world is pretty well drawn but I never settled into this book.

I never really bought the shift in the hero. There was a lot of action but I needed more romance for this book to work for me.

The Barbarian's Owned (Celestial Mates, #1) by Marla Therron Review
Alien Romance: The Barbarian's Owned: Scifi Alien Abduction Romance (Alien Romance, Alien Invasion Romance, BBW) (Celestial Mates Book 1) - Marla Therron

All Dr. Rae Ashburn wanted to do was present her latest research to her colleagues—and maybe show up her loathsome ex-boyfriend in the process. Instead, the beautiful scientist is whisked from Earth by the very alien invaders whose existence she sought to prove. Not only do they exist, but a stunning specimen of an alpha male believes it’s his destiny to mate with her.

Dragged to the alien world Ythir and trapped within its sentient jungles, Rae must fight to escape the brute whose savagery both terrifies and intrigues her. While her arrogant captor’s protective instincts keep her safe from feral predators and deadly flora, Rae must guard her heart with care—these enormous alphas mate for life, and demand total submission from the females they care for.

The hero and heroine are very likable and the world is interesting. I like smart heroines.

However, we don't get as much romance as we do action nor do we get to explore this interesting world and culture enough to give the story depth.

This one wins an award for a truly terrible title. These Alien Romance titles are worse than Mills and Boon titles or just the same which makes keeping track of what you've read impossible and makes you question why the hell you are reading that.

No matter. Brain Candy!

This wasn't bad and it wasn't good. The heroine is smart and earnest. The world needs to be much more developed but it is a quick read if you are craving alien romance junk food.

Review

The world building in this romance is very good.

I tend to really like science fiction romance novels where the aliens evolved from another animal. I especially like it when the aliens are humanoid aliens because the 9th Orb by Kaitlyn O'Connor is such a great book.

The aliens here are descended from bees. Our hero is not exactly right according to their biology and that makes it possible for him to fall in love with our heroine.

There is a good deal of culture clash that makes for a good story.

My non love of the book has to do with pacing. The opening scene is really one of the last of the book and then everything is in flashback. This tends to slow down he action for me and also makes the book darker than it needs to be.

However, the writing in this book is a huge improvement over the other books I have read by this writer and I look forward to her next book.

"The King and I" by Opal Carew - Not for Me
King and I - Opal Carew

I put a bunch of SF, Fantasy, and Paranormal ebooks on hold at public library.  This one just downloaded and I just sent it back unfinished.

Not for me; did not read enough to rate or review.

Just never made it past the ooh-isn't-everyone over the top gorgeous prose.  Well, purple prose with "bouncing breasts" "muscular butts" and "clenching wombs" -- I must say it wasn't slut shaming at least.  The just met group of female characters seemed to become near immediate best buds and protective of each other if oddly interested in noticing each other's sexual attributes.

I dropped after the TSTL bunch followed stranger down deserted, dilapidated hallway to a supposed VIP elevator that did not look VIP but got into anyway.  Voila! Transported up to spaceship with more drop dead gorgeous people who are aliens and despite being separated and bossed around still clenching wombs and bouncing breasts.

And then told creepy tale of how they were being taken to their soul-mates ... blech!

Not for me.  But it was just the type of story and the style of the writing that was my problem.  The text wasn't some torturous weird sentence structuring and typo-laden thing that made it hard to read -- it was readable.  Readable -- but not my cup of tea.
