“I never got the point of this movie,” I said, grabbing a handful of popcorn.

“What do you mean the point?”

“I mean, this old chick trains this girl to fuck with the guy’s head and he just takes it? What a pussy!” Red just looked at me like I was crazy. “What?”

“It’s romantic!”

“This is not romantic.” I pointed at the screen. “This is stupid. The old hag tells him she will break his heart. She is engaged when he finds her again in New York, and he still practically begs at her feet. It’s pathetic.”

“He loves her so much that he spends his life doing everything he can to be worthy of her.”

“Why isn’t he worthy of her in the first place?” I pointed out. “He’s a nice guy.”

“It’s a gesture. He wants to prove his love. Like what your mom says.”

“That is nothing like what mom says. You fight to be the man the girl deserves after she loves you, not to make her love you. That guy is an idiot. He falls for the first girl to kiss him, and she does nothing but use him and fuck with his head.”

“Then why did you agree to watch it?”

“Gwyneth Paltrow gets naked.” I shrugged.

“Nice.”

“So,” I tried to steer the conversation toward her date with Russell without sounding too interested, “you never told me how your date went.”

“Eh.” She shrugged.

“Eh? What does that mean?”

“It was okay, but there wasn’t really anything there. We have nothing in common.”

“Well, that’s too bad.” I tried and failed to hide my smile.

“I think it was mutual anyway. He hasn’t called me, so no big deal.”

I told that son of a bitch to stay away from her. Looks like he heard my warning loud and clear. “I’m sorry, Red.”

She looked at me with a smirk on her face. “You are not.”

“I didn’t like the guy, sure, but I do want you to be happy.”

“Well then, I guess it worked out for everyone then, didn’t it?”

“Yeah, I guess so.” I chuckled.

I am a huge fan of Inside the Actors Studio. My favorite part of James Lipton’s interviews is when he has his guest answer the Pivot Questionnaire. I thought it would be fun to have my MC Drew Collins from my novel SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEEN answer the questionnaire as well. Let’s see what he has to say.

1. What is your favorite word?
Manwhore. It sounds fun.

2. What is your least favorite word?
Pickle. People use it in weird ways, like describing an uncomfortable situation or as an alternative to penis. A pickle is a pickle people. You eat it. Let’s leave it at that. Plus the smell is rank.

3. What turn you on creatively, spiritually, or emotionally?
Determination.

4. What turns you off?
Timidity. Don’t hide. Be who you are and own it.

5. What is your favorite curse word?
Son of a bitch. It just works in so many situations

6. What sound or noise do you love?
My nephew’s laugh. He is the coolest kid ever.

7. What sound or noise do you hate?
The slow beep of a heart monitor.

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Marriage counselor. Maybe, I can help other people from making the mistake I did.

9. What profession would you not like to do?
High school Teacher. Teenagers are assholes. God knows I was.

An involuntary rush of breath escapes me as I take in every glorious inch of his perfect physique. He’s devastating. And I’m not even sure Joshua Camden qualifies as a mortal anymore. He takes one look at my face, then gapes at the vibrator. Oh good God. This is turning out to be one of the worst nights of my life. In fact, I can’t remember ever feeling so embarrassed and ashamed. Our gazes lock. His lips twitch as he takes a few steps forward, shutting the door behind him.

“Why are you here?” I snap, forgetting where and what I am. Oh yeah—in my bedroom and horny and single. Then I remember the vibrator.

But before I can move, he reaches his hand out. I’m not sound-minded at the moment; in fact, I think someone spiked my drinks downstairs and I’m hallucinating. “Give it to me.” My gaze darts nervously around the room. Just die, I think, it would be so much easier than facing him. He doesn’t ask again, but gently removes the toy from my grasp, turns it off, then places it on my bureau.

“I got worried when I didn’t find you downstairs,” he says in a husky voice. “I even knocked—”

“Please,” I croak, wiping nervous tears from my eyes. “Go.” And never come back.

“There’s nothing to be ashamed of, Ms. Taylor,” he whispers. “We can’t help who we’re attracted to. Nature always wins.”

I can’t believe it. The truth is finally out: underneath that pristine Italian silk he wears is an arrogant bastard of the highest order. I stare at his broad chest, purposely avoiding his intense eyes. But it doesn’t help; I feel my temperature rise anyway, my legs tremble. I see the huge bulge between his legs. There’s not a chance in hell I’m going to be able to resist if he touches me.
