I finished writing this review and it got eaten by the computer gremlins. Oh well, here it goes again. I listened to this on audiobook while I was packing up the house this summer, and it greatly improved what was a tedious task. The narration is well done. This series is pretty darn spooky, no pun intended. It's downright scary at times. The narrator lends well to the atmosphere. There's a feeling of the monster lurking in the dark behind every closed door, a sense of paranoia and an urgency not to trust anyone. The storyline enhances that feeling because the monsters lurk in human form. More of the witches storyline in this one, and further development of the relationship between Tom and Alice. Definitely worth a read.

The Last Apprentice series is like my go-to audiobook series when I'm not sure what else I want to listen to next but I know the story will be good and the narrator will be good because it's always consistent. It also never has huge cliffhangers so I know I won't feel pressured to listen to the next book like "right now." I've been slowly making my way through the series for a long time now and I like it that way. 

In book 10, Tom is still trying to prepare to defeat the Fiend. They have his head, which has to be separate from his body or the Fiend can come back so Grimalkin has been trying to keep the head away from enemy hands until Tom can locate the third blade that he needs to defeat the Fiend once and for all. 

This wasn't one of my favorite books of the series just because it was more of a filler story I thought and I'm to the point where if they don't hurry up and kill the damn Fiend I'm going to find a way to do it myself.

This has been a very consistent series; all of the books have been really good. I just finished the audio version of this sixth book, Clash of the Demons, and I liked it just as much as the other ones. 

In this installment, Mam, Tom's mother, enlists the help of Tom, Alice, the Spook, the Pendle witches, Bill Arkwright and the assassin Grimalkin to travel to Greece to help her battle the Ordeen. Of course, the fighters of the dark are reluctant to actually join forces with their dark enemies but they agree that it's the only chance they have of successfully destroying the Ordeen.

In the end, a few lives are lost and Tom makes some heavy sacrifices that I'm sure he'll have to answer to the Fiend for in the near future. Overall, it was an entertaining story with all of the characters battling together. I also enjoyed the change of scenery to Greece and I'm curious to see how things play out between Tom and the Fiend.

This is the 3rd installment of the The Last Apprentice/ Wardstone Chronicles series. The Spook and his apprentice Tom, go to Anglezarke to spend the winter and deal with more Spook's business. They are faced with a failed, out-of-control, apprentice-turned Necromancer, one of the Spook's old flames who is also a Lamia witch and an irritating Boggart set on destruction. Tom also deals with some family issues and life changes in this one. 

All of the books so far have been pretty action packed and very entertaining. I'm listening to the audio books and they are fairly short so you can breeze right through them. I'm kind of disappointed though that my library doesn't have an audio version of the next book, Attack of the Fiend, so looks like I'll have to read it. I've gotten so use to the voices of the characters, Tom, the Spook & Alice, that it won't be the same without the narration. :  (
