Round-Up for March and April 2018

I cannot believe we are actually going into May already, the time is just flying by.

Sadly I was super busy, sick  or had some dental work done and really didn't get a lot books read in the last couple months, hence the double round-up this month. But some book I actually just combined or a all in one addition came out for review. So the actually books read or reviewed I shoulds say is not as much. I have  few more but I still have to write up some reviews so it will have to wait.

I'm actually thinking about putting up a new blog since while it is also refreshing to to have one, I also miss it. But if I do I will not put so much stress on myself and just post whatever and whenever , just for fun.

But we shall see lol.

I should however post a book haul it has been forever and it its getting out of control but I think I wait toll after may since there are a few books coming out yet that I really want to get and add .

I hope everyone is having a great time and enjoying the nice weather and everyone is reading some great books.

Here are my books for March/April 2018

Now I Rise / Kiersten White
Now I Rise (The Conqueror's Trilogy) - Kiersten White

She has no allies. No throne. All she has is what she’s always had: herself.

After failing to secure the Wallachian throne, Lada Dracul is out to punish anyone who dares to cross her blood-strewn path. Filled with a white-hot rage, she storms the countryside with her men, accompanied by her childhood friend Bogdan, terrorizing the land. But brute force isn’t getting Lada what she wants. And thinking of Mehmed brings little comfort to her thorny heart. There’s no time to wonder whether he still thinks about her, even loves her. She left him before he could leave her.

What Lada needs is her younger brother Radu’s subtlety and skill. But Mehmed has sent him to Constantinople—and it’s no diplomatic mission. Mehmed wants control of the city, and Radu has earned an unwanted place as a double-crossing spy behind enemy lines. Radu longs for his sister’s fierce confidence—but for the first time in his life, he rejects her unexpected plea for help. Torn between loyalties to faith, to the Ottomans, and to Mehmed, he knows he owes Lada nothing. If she dies, he could never forgive himself—but if he fails in Constantinople, will Mehmed ever forgive him?

As nations fall around them, the Dracul siblings must decide: what will they sacrifice to fulfill their destinies? Empires will topple, thrones will be won…and souls will be lost.

4 dark, twisted, stabby stars for Now I Rise.

I think it was a genius choice to feminize the Dracula historical character! I love Lada Dracul and her hard, violent little heart! It gives an interesting torque to the facts and makes a fascinating tale even more engaging.

This is the second installment in a trilogy, and I’ve really enjoyed them both. The first book (And I Darken) is the April book for my real-life book club and I’ve chosen to read the second book rather than re-read the first. I’m so glad that I’ve continued on!

For those of you who are really interested in the time period and have the fortitude to withstand a lot of torture and impalings, I would also recommend Vlad: The Last Confession by C.C. Humphreys. It is an exceptional rendition of the historical Dracula story.

Both versions highly recommended.

Books I Read:

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets  - 5 Stars - Amazing re-read

Make It Easy, Cupcake: Fabulously Fun Creations in 4 Simple Steps  - 3 Stars - Interesting projects and ideas

Eighth Grave After Dark - 5 Stars -  Another amazing re-read. (re-reads are apparently my thing in 2018)

First Time Cake Decorating: The Absolute Beginner’s Guide - 4 Stars - A great overview of the basics, very clear instructions.

Seventh Grave and No Body - 5 Stars - Re-read. Charley being Charley is always great.

When Dimple Met Rishi - 4 Stars - Really fun, quite cute. A good coming of age tale.

Sweet Ruin - 4 Stars - So good! This series never gets old.

Rescue My Heart - 3 Stars - I have no memories from this book. That can’t be good.

Trophy Husband - 2.5 Stars - I only liked this book when the main characters were together. I also detested how much time McKenna (h) spent thinking about her a**hole ex.

Ice Planet Barbarians  - 3 Stars - It took a very long time for me to get on board with this one. Once I got there it wasn't terrible.

If Someone Says “You Complete Me” Run! - Not really a DNF, I put it aside to finish challenges and reviews.

Currently Reading:

Ice Planet Barbarians - Ruby Dixon - I’ve put this book down with the intention to DNF twice yet I keep picking it back up. Maybe because it’s a group read maybe because I’m curious, I’m not sure.

Year to Date Totals:

January: 9 books

February: 10 books

March: 9 books

2018: 28 books
