Dark Desires (Pure Ones #3) - Aja James

Alright... I'm feeling way too much right now after reading this one. Trying to get my head together..

I gotta be honest and say it took me a minute to actually become invested with what was going on here. I wasn't feeling all the technical aspects/jargon with this one. It felt in certain areas , for me, to be throwing me out of the flow of the story; even though it was central to Ryu & Ava's story. But because of this fact, I quickly got over it. Especially when the pacing of everything began to pick up. I knew it was a point to all of it, and that's what kept me going :D

I fell in love with the way Ryu's story unfolded. Past and present. How it was all woven so well together. There were some hard truths here that had me physically & emotionally unbalanced. I was crying ALOT of tears here. Tears of heartbreak. Tears of pure joy, & tears of anger & impotent frustration with certain things that occurred. There was an instance where my Husband actually closed the book and was like "That's it Babe. We're done. You need to step away for a bit" So yeah, I was extremely in my feelings with this one. I'm a sensitive soul anyway, but when an Author can cause me to feel every emotion across the spectrum, whether I come away loving the book or not; I feel the writer has done their job. When doing this they force me to face it. Roll with it. Figure out how I'm feeling as I'm being swept away. This is an AWESOME thing & if you don't know by now, I love this story because of it.

I LOOOOOOOVE Ryu & Ava together & individually. Their interactions with one another just had this sort of raw, pureness to it. It was on an elemental level that you literally got to see and feel as it occurred. Watching how things unfolded and progressed with them, broke my heart & put it back together beautifully all at once. It was great.. I loved how throughout this they remained who they were to their core, while trying to figure out how to be what they needed to be for one another. I'm a big fan of loving completely without losing yourself in the process. So this spoke to me on that level.

That Epilogue *sighs* I am just beside myself.

Hubby and I got to read this one together, so below are his thoughts and experiences while reading this with me..

Well, I am agreeing with majority of what my wife said about this book. Except I had no problem getting into the story immediately. It all intrigued me from the beginning. There weren't any slow moving aspects of this story for me at all. I especially enjoyed all of the fight sequences concerning Ryu and the shadow ninjas. I liked seeing how things were coming together for Ava when she was working in the Labs. Her trying to understand and figure out just what her role is in all of this, when it became apparent to her that something just wasn't quite right. I'm a science buff to a degree, so getting that aspect here was refreshing for me.

There were some very intense hot scenes in here with Ryu and Ava. This I enjoyed immensely because I benefited from some of those encounters ;) What can I say? They were written well.

Seriously, the writing with this book was done incredibly well. I am very invested in this series now. I think that this story solidified that for me. I am intrigued by Inanna's father. I think the suffering that I saw here was just the tip of the iceberg with this guy. I am eager to know more of his story and if retribution is granted for him.

My wife gives this one 5 stars, I am going to go with 6 stars on this one.

Well done Ms. James. -AJ

ARC REVIEW Malfunction by Nina Croft

MalfunctionDark Desires Origins #1, Damn Good Sci-fi Romance! Which I'm not surprised I love her Beyond Human series and with this being the prequel to the Dark Desires series I really need to get all of those and read them. I thoroughly enjoy Nina Croft's writing, her books are immersive they pull you in and don't let go and this one is no different.

The Earth was dying, with twenty-four ships big enough to hold ten thousand people each there was a lottery the winners were the lucky ones, or as they were called "The Chosen Ones" they set off to find a new home. The crews were big enough to man each ship in fifty year rotations and their family got a free pass and an army. But after five hundred years supplies are running short and they still haven't found a new planet and now a "malfunction" is causing cryotubes to fail suffocating the person inside.

Logan Farrell is with the army his current assignment had him with the MPs and that's what they need an investigator, to make sure the failure of the cryotubes was just a malfunction. Well the Captain of the second ship doesn't quite trust the higher ups and wakes up his friend Katia Mendoza a detective with the London Police, or at least she was before they left Earth, to help investigate. Rico the captain of the second ship has his own reasons for putting in his own person on the case, he can't afford everyone to know the truth about his ship. The truth that a good portion of "The Chosen Ones" who were suppose to be on his ship were left behind and replaced by his own people, his own supernatural kind including Katia.

Together Logan and Katia try and find out who is behind the sabotage but with every step closer they get they have a new near death experience that just brings them closer and closer together. The chemistry between them is instant and hot, every spare moment they have is together. But what will Logan think when he finds out not everyone is human?

Overall, I loved this book. The characters, the situation, humor, romance , hot hot (not limited to the bedroom) scenes. I inhaled this book and I want more!

Dark Desires
Dark Desires - Eve Silver

I really enjoyed this one.  Darcie is a survivor and has been through tragedy.  She finds her sister, Mrs (Abigail) Feather, who runs a brothel.  Abigail is also a survivor and has made the best of her situation.  She directs Darcie to seek employment with Dr Damien Cole.

Damien is a mystery.  There was certain moments where his motives and character where questioned.  Darcie, at first cautious, gradually trusts and throws caution to the wind.  Not everything is as it seems.

I admired Darcie for her escape from a harrowing event.  She shares her story with Damien.  Damien finally comes clean with his secret.  There were times that I thought Darcie was a little too meek, but then she'd shrug it off.  She did have one TSTL moment at the end.  But, hey, the killer was unmasked.

What I really liked about Damien was his being able to see women as equal to men.  "There are not women in medical school, " Damien repeated.  "Yet."

REVIEW TOUR & #GIVEAWAY - Dark Desires (Pure Ones #3) by Aja James
Dark Desires (Pure Ones #3) - Aja James
Dark Desires is the second book in this series that I have read, although it is number three in the series. Ryu and Ava meet on a plane, where Ava fights a losing battle with her thoughts about him. They are both on their way to Japan, where Ava will be working to try a find a way to prolong, or even create, health. This is personal for Ava as her father suffers from Parkinson's. Ryu is there to put an end to the research, because it isn't all above board. He has a job to do, but his feelings for Ava get in the way. As well as the current story, we also get Ryu's story from a series of flashbacks.

Now, I enjoyed this book, I did. However, I'm thinking maybe I prefer the Pure Ones to the Dark Ones, or maybe I just haven't read THE Dark Ones story that makes me go weak at the knees. Pure Healing blew me away whilst this one I enjoyed. Does that sound bad? It's not meant to. The story is excellent, although the climax is quite abrupt. The characters are likeable, with Ava not being afraid to speak her mind, which made an excellent change. The world-building is superb, and there are cameos from some of the Pure Ones too.

On the whole, this was an amazing read that I have no hesitation in recommending. It just didn't blow me out of the water like book one did.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *
