Reverse Read-a-thon: Wrap-up

The reverse read-a-thon is complete and I've gotten a good night's sleep.  How did everyone do?  I didn't read as many books as I would have liked, but I had a good time.  I have to say that starting on Friday evening and going into Saturday evening was great.  Starting a day earlier gave me all day Sunday to recover, which means I am totally refreshed for Monday.  Also going night into day helps during that last quarter or so of the read-a-thon.  Having the daylight hours during the second half makes a huge difference because the brightness helps with staying away, plus having coffee during the day keeps me on a normal routine.  And, if needed, taking a nap during the first half of the read-a-thon makes it easier to stay up for the second half.  Napping is always better during the quiet hours.  It was also a nice change for people in other time-zones.  I wouldn't be opposed to seeing more reverse read-a-thons.  Perhaps the admins could trade off every other read-a-thon.

Reverse Read-a-thon: Closing Survey

Closing Survey!

1. Which hour was most daunting for you? It was somewhere in the first 6-8 hours because I hadn’t gotten an afternoon nap
2. Tell us ALLLLL the books you read! I only got through The Raven Boys and The Dream Thieves
3. Which books would you recommend to other Read-a-thoners? All the books everyone has to figure out what type of books work best for them in this type of scenario
4. How did you feel about this first-ever Reverse Readathon? I loved it! I enjoyed going from evening into morning. Should we do it again? Absolutely
5. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? As always, the answer is whenever a read-a-thon is hosted, I will be there Would you be interested in volunteering to help organize and prep in October? As much as I would love to, I know I can be unreliable in these types of situations.  Perhaps I can donate or something.

Reverse Read-a-thon: Hours 21-24

Woot!  Woot!  I made it to the end!  I completed my second book with five minutes to spare.  I am now beat, but I'm going to try to stay awake a bit longer.  I am however, turning off all my gadgets and giving my eyes a rest from text and screens.  I'll be back after some much needed rest for my wrap-up.  I hope everyone had as much fun as I did!

Review: The Dream Thieves
The The Dream Thieves - Maggie Stiefvater

Blue and her Raven Boys, Gansey, Ronan, Adam and Noah are all dealing with the consequences of the ley line ritual, particularly Adam.  The ley lines have been awakened, but they seem to be out of control, and no one knows exactly why.

Noah keeps disappearing, Adam is off-kilter, Ronan confesses a huge secret, and Gansey is still trying to track down Glendower, all while trying to hold everyone together.  All of our characters have family issues going on.  Also, there's a hit-man in town looking for the Greywaren.

The group is now charged with fixing the ley lines, finding out what the Greywaren is and keeping it out of the hands of very bad people, and continue searching for The Raven King.

We learn a lot more about our characters' background in this story, and there is definitely some character development--not all of it good.  New characters are introduced and I cannot wait to see what role they will all play in the next book.

Reverse Read-a-thon: Hours 17-20

I’m still trucking along with second and probably last book of the read-a-thon.  My trusty furbabies are still with me.

Right now, I’m contemplating if I want to ask the kids to feed me, or if I want to take the iPod with me and fix something for myself.  *sigh*  I also finally remembered to time myself communicating with my fellow read-a-thoners.  I’ve been responding/cheering throughout the event, but I totally forgot about the contest.  Better late than never though.
