MY REVIEW

..

I thought I had already reviewed this, but with her new release, Fanged Outcast, I realized I hadn’t. I am rectifying that situation right now. You are in for a treat today. I will be reviewing both books, Fanged Princess and Fanged Outcast.

OMG. I was completely engrossed in this fantastic fantasy tale of love, sacrifice, revenge and suspense!

The trio are on the run from her father and she will do whatever needs to be done to let them have a life together, the life she was deprived of. But they can’t do it alone. Who would help them? The cast of characters comes alive on the pages and Elisabeth creates some surprising alliances as they struggle to survive. At one point I am leaning forward in my chair as I breathlessly read the words flowing off the page. I think short stories must be some the hardest stories to tell. How do you pack so much into such a small package and keep the reader at your mercy. Elisabeth did that splendidly and I can’t wait to read more of Haddie’s story in the Fanged Outcast.

Haddie knew her father would not let the relationship continue. After all, he had ended the relationship she had with the human, Fletcher. She is an enforcer, A Kaiju, a vampire. She had never killed anyone to feed and because of her own experience never would.

Damian, her brother is in love with a human, Madelyn. His father will never allow this, so they are on the run.

Madelyn is the human girl Damian is in love with. Yeah, this might have been shades of Twilight, but it is so much more than that. My feelings about Madelyn grow and change as the story unfolds and her love and loyalty shine through.

Chase – Hmmm. What can I say, except I can hardly wait to get to know him better.

The three humans survey me with apprehension. A fanged princess in their midst.

I received Fanged Princess from the author in return for an honest review.

SYNOPSIS

How much would you sacrifice for a love that wasn’t yours?

Hadassah managed to befriend her kind’s worst enemies and save her brother and the human girl he loves from the Vampiric King—once. Faced with new challenges and new threats, Hadassah and the others must once more fight for her brother and the girl who stole his heart. My Review of Fanged Outcast by Elisabeth Wheatley

.

The Fanged series starts out as a fantasy romance then turns into so much more, with political intrigue and the machinations of other races, with their own agendas, vying for their alliance. Fanged Outcast, a vampire novella, picks up where Fanged Princess leaves off and I am so happy I didn’t have to wait for the story to continue.  Damian and Madelyn are all Haddie has left and she will sacrifice everything for them. She struggles to come to terms with the acts necessary for them to be able to live without looking over their shoulders every day for the rest of their life. Chase and his family will have to face the Council and explain why they are working with vampires, putting themselves at risk to help the trio. Do they have an ulterior motive for doing so?  It’s a wonderful journey through Elisabeth’s fantasy world as the races adjust and adapt, changing from adversaries to allies, all with their own agendas. The sharp barbs slung from Haddie to Chase and hints of humor splashed throughout this novella has me chuckling and I am loving Haddie’s feistiness and determination to protect Damian and Madelyn. I love Bear. Who doesn’t love the faithful hound? A nice touch of the normal added to the otherwordly.

I am so impressed with the great writing of such a young author. It is obvious her passion for writing and her imagination will be taking me on many more journeys through her fantasy worlds with her marvelous characters and stories.

Drat. I knew this was coming. I ran out of pages. Book III is due out later this year. Please write faster Elisabeth!

This is the curse of the Outcast – always on guard, never knowing who might come after you next.

SUVs are not to be tackled.

Fanged by Theresa Basile
Fanged - Theresa Basile

I received a free paperback copy of Fanged by Theresa Basile in a goodreads giveaway.

I gave this young adult vampire story five stars. I found the dialogue among the vampire group realistic. The emotional interaction was spot on. I slowed as I approached the end of the book because I didn't want it to end. I hoped for another book by the author Theresa Basile. Sadly, she does not have another listed, but I hope she will write a followup soon.

Shiv Crew
Shiv Crew - Laken Cane

First thing's first! I want to say a big thank you to Janet for recommending this book to me. :D We usually swim in the same waters. :D

Now:

Imagine it's 7:45am on a dull Monday morning, and you are waiting in line at your local coffee shop to get your hands on the much needed black elixir of life. You shuffle along tiredly, offering only a nod of commiseration to the poor bastards in the line that share your fate. The weekend is gone and you have a whole new week ahead of you, but you can't even think about that right now. You just want your coffee.

But then the front door slams open and a cheerleader bursts in. The hair is too big, the eyes are too wide, the fake smile stretches her lips almost to the tips of her ears. She waves her pompom toting hands and yells, “'Cmon, guys! It's time to go! Woohoo!” And it's simply too much.

“Shiv Crew” would have been so much better, if the author wasn't trying so damned hard. Take this for an example. Rune brings two men that she knew for a whole of five minutes to a practice yard, to determine their fighting skill. They win against her crew. Before they even clear the mats, she notices them animatedly talking about something. One of the boys lifts his hand to quiet the other one. This is what Rune has to say about it.

“She frowned. Secrets were allowed, but if those secrets could hurt the crew they were best dragged out of the dark and destroyed before they became a problem.”

Very dramatic, and completely unnecessary. They could have been arguing about a high kick or witch technique could have been used for a better result, at least that's what one might expect them to talk about, when you take the entire situation in account. Yet the author wants us to focus on some 'dark secret'. More then once I wanted to say to Laken Cane, “Whoa girl, slow down, you have plenty of time to get where you're going.”

The plot was good, and has potential to develop, but the execution was bad, very bad. It dragged the whole thing down. The plot holes were too deep and common to ensure a smooth ride. That's one of the reasons that Rune came off as a rough character that was often condescending. If you are in her good graces, most likely you are a hot sexy guy. If Rune doesn't like you then you are a bastard, asshole, fucking asshole, blowhard, pompous ass, and so forth.

I firmly believe that the novel itself would have been so much better if the author wasn't in such a rush all the time, or tried to find a very specific, truly unique trait to describe each and every supporting character. Let's face it, life doesn't happen that way, not everybody can be drop dead gorgeous, an ultimate fighter or have the X factor aura. Truth is that approximately 98% of people one deals with throughout the course of their life are plain and unremarkable, and it's because of that the uniqueness of certain individuals shines trough so much brighter.

To some people reading this review it might come off as negative, but it's not. If I didn't think it was worth talking about, the review would have been a few sentences long. I loved the general idea, but as it stands, in my eyes it's a rough cut, unpolished. I am actually torn. I feel grateful to the author for coming up with a storyline I would love to follow, as it's right up my alley. On the other hand I am kinda annoyed with her for ruining it with such classic PNR mistakes.

Davy Harwood
Davy Harwood - Tijan

This is it...this is where i say goodbye to Tijan for some time. I have tried, with two consecutive novels, and just eventually gave up.

As a paranormal romance novel, "Davy Harwood" is predictable and boring as hell.

Davy faces off a vampire, whom she hates(lusts over), and he is holding captive another guys with his eyes. She's fuming, she needs to do something. Sooooo.... she fists her hands in his shirt and kisses him.

How...very....original.

The background story is barely there, the world-building non existent. I waited for a story, for something to happen, anything...it didn't. Drama, drama, drama, boyfriends, drama...

By the time she had the dream in witch the suicide girl says "I chose you", i knew exactly where this was going. The prophesied Immortal is here, and she has a Destiny to fulfill, weather she likes it or not. Hunted by everyone, but protected by one man alone..

Again, how very, very, very original...

That's it for me....
