Almost all of the books in my last library haul

I don't think I shared this with all of you, but I took a pic of almost all the books in my most recent library haul.  A lot of YA this time around, so it'll likely be my next stretch of reviews. (Some of them I'm working on at this very moment reading).

I'm also working on several ARC reads as well, so I'll be back and forth.  Long and short, I have plenty to read, just have to carve out the time.

Bookish Haul over at my main blog

A.K.A. I spent quite a bit of my tax money on books, so I took pictures to document my haul.  Some cover loving in tow. :)

Design Your Day: Be More Productive, Set Better Goals, and Live Life On Purpose - Claire Diaz-Ortiz

Hey guys, Rose here.  So I'm updating the haul for this week since I didn't have that many approvals until the end of last week.  And I had well over ten titles, but I"m going to feature only ten since this is usually the thing I do every week.  This is a plethora of books for variety.  As you guys know, I like to mix up my reading a bit and I'm happy to share this bundle with you as well as my schedule for reading them.  Some of these don't release until next year, so some of them I'll be scheduling a bit further out.

Art of Attention: Book One - Erica Jago,Elena Brower

"Art of Attention" by Erica Jago and Elena Brower

Publisher: Sounds True Publishing

Release Date: 2/1/2016

Rose's Read Date: Week of 1/4/2016

Another perfect read for the start of the new year in 2016.  Granted, it's not set to release until a month after I'm reading it, but I think it would be better for me to give this physical movement/mindfulness guide a try and help encourage others to make it a part of their new year goals.  I'm really looking forward to it because I like the approach given in the blurb.

Sugar Skulls - Lisa Mantchev,Glenn Dallas

"Sugar Skulls" by Lisa Mantchev and Glenn Dallas

Publisher: SkyScape/Amazon Publishing

Release Date: 11/10/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/5/2015

Ye Gods, doesn't Lisa Mantchev have the most eye-catching covers?  I first read her "Eyes Like Stars" and while I was a bit lukewarm about the read, I was still fascinated enough to collect the books in the series (which are gorgeously sitting on my shelf, a few of them unread).  I definitely plan to check into this one, since the cover and the premise intrigue me.  And it's classified as New Adult and Sci-Fi-Fantasy - a rare combo and more of a read I would like to see for the category.  Hoping it's as awesome as it sounds.

The Wild One: A Brooklyn Girls Novel - Gemma Burgess

"The Wild One: A Brooklyn Girls Novel" by Gemma Burgess

Publisher: St. Martin's Press

Release Date: 11/10/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/5/2015

I've been wanting to read the Brooklyn Girls series for a long while.  I also have a few of Burgess's other novels via ARC, so this will definitely be a series I want to read before the turn of November.  I like the idea of a group of friends navigating life's ups and downs together.

Heir to the Duke (The Duke's Sons) - Jane Ashford

"Heir to the Duke" by Jane Ashford

Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca

Release Date: 1/5/2016

Rose's Read Date:  Week of 12/28/2015

Picking up this read because the author's new to me (yes, I know - I'm so behind) and I could use more historical reads in my palette.  This seems like it might be a read right up my alley, so we'll see how it goes.

For Love or Magic - Lucy March

"For Love or Magic" by Lucy March

Publisher: St. Martin's Press

Release Date: 12/1/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/23

I really enjoyed my first read of Lucy March and this was one I got an invite to read, so I'm super excited about it.  I love magical realism, and if it's in the vein of romance with a bit of other elements in the mix, you can bet I'm intrigued by this one.

Firsts: A Novel - Laurie Elizabeth Flynn

"Firsts" by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn

Publisher:  St. Martin's Press

Release Date: 1/5/2016

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/23

This was a title that I'd heard about initially through a lot of blogger circles, and I'm over the moon I got an approval for it, because I heard it was in high demand.  Teen girl searches for virgin guy with a responsible focus on sexuality: um, can you say "holy crud?"  That's really rare in the age group, let alone many romances, so I hope it pans out to be a good read.

Fourteen: A Daughter's Memoir of Adventure, Sailing, and Survival - Leslie Johansen Nack

"Fourteen" by Leslie Johnson Nack

Publisher: She Writes Press

Release Date: 10/20/2015

Rose's Read Date:  Week of 10/19

I figured a memoir would be a great read and considering this one is set on the sea and is a novel of survival, it was right up my alley for reading. Figure I would wait until the week of release to read it (which is very soon).

A Bad Boy for Christmas (Second Chance) - Jessica Lemmon

"A Bad Boy for Christmas" by Jessica Lemmon

Publisher: Forever (Grand Central Publishing)

Release Date: 9/29/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/16

I'm going to give myself a little time to read this one since it's already released and I need to catch up with the series (I bought the first two books of this series because I love the author and I enjoyed my first few reads from her - Jessica Lemmon is totally awesome.)

Smoke - Catherine McKenzie

"Smoke" by Catherine McKenzie

Publisher: Lake Union Publishing

Release Date: 10/20/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 10/19

So I haven't read anything from Catherine McKenzie yet, and apparently from what many people in my bookish circles have told me - I'm completely missing out. (Hey, I have my reasons!)   This is a study of how people react in a natural disaster spanning over six days time through multiple perspectives.  I like this kind of novel because I like character studies in intense situations, so I'm making this my first read from the author.  But I definitely plan to read what other works are in her bibliography as well.

Design Your Day: Be More Productive, Set Better Goals, and Live Life On Purpose - Claire Diaz-Ortiz

"Design Your Day" by Claire Diaz-Ortiz

Publisher: Moody Publishers

Release Date: 1/5/2016

Rose's Read Date: Week of 12/14

Last but not least, another read that would prove perfect for the New Year's resolution that people can follow.  I do like organization/productivity books, so I"m naturally curious to see how this book touches on its respective topic.

That's all for this week's list of books.  I'll have another set ready to go for next week, probably once I finish catching up with my reading queue.

Until next entry,

Rose

NetGalley Haul: Week of 9/21/2015
What We Left Behind - Robin Talley
This Song Is (Not) For You - Laura Nowlin
Hot Toy - Jennifer Crusie
The Shock of Night (The Darkwater Saga) - Patrick W. Carr
Controlled Burn (Boston Fire) - Shannon Stacey

I'm a little belated on the book haul from last week, but it's still within something of a regular time frame.  I'll be doing my usual book haul on Thursday of this week as well, as I did a few more requests that are pending for the time being.

This will be a list of new approvals (at least the ones I got in recent notations) and only five, as I'm still working through my stack of reading and reviewing.  Here they are, in no particular order:

What We Left Behind - Robin Talley

"What We Left Behind" by Robin Talley

Publisher: Harlequin Teen

Release Date: 10/27/2015

Rose's Reading Date: Week of 10/19

I really enjoyed Robin Talley's "Lies We Tell Ourselves", so this is a given read for me, and I was excited to get it as a galley. And it deals with teen characters who are GLBTQ and struggling with their relationships and identities.

This Song Is (Not) For You - Laura Nowlin

"This Song is (Not) For You" by Laura Nowlin

Publisher:  Sourcebooks Fire

Release Date: 1/5/2016

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/16

I actually ended up getting this one way, WAY early, but I really enjoyed Laura Nowlin's previous book "If He Had Been With Me" (which had a gorgeous cover - I really like the design of this one as well), so I was happy dancing when I got the approval for this.  Two bandmates are best friends and write songs with each other. Enter third bandmate who gels with the band musically, but the relationships are thrown into a quagmire.  I'm deifnitely looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Hot Toy - Jennifer Crusie

"Hot Toy" by Jennifer Crusie

Publisher: St. Martin's Press

Release Date: 10/13/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 10/5

Yes, yes, I know this was published before in an anthology, but this is new to me because I've never read it.  And it's Jennifer Crusie!!!  (Yeah, in case you can't tell, I love her works.)  The description's giving me deja vu of "Agnes and the Hitman" - which I remember being totally crazy, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.  I could use a sweet, funny romantic read right about now.

The Shock of Night (The Darkwater Saga) - Patrick W. Carr

"The Shock of Night" by Patrick W. Carr

Publisher: Bethany House

Release Date: 11/3/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/5/2015

So really, this had a very short description in NetGalley, but I was intrigued by the cover and the small bit of info that I got from it.  Plus - sci-fi and fantasy are among my favorite genres, so why not?

Controlled Burn (Boston Fire) - Shannon Stacey

"Controlled Burn: Boston Fire" by Shannon Stacey

Publisher: Carina Press

Release Date: 12/1/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/23

I requested this one because I really enjoyed the books I've read from Shannon Stacey in the past.  She builds characters so well and the chemistry usually leaps off the page.  So a fireman and a woman who happens to be the granddaughter of an elderly couple end up being united during a cold winter in an apartment complex?  Let's go for it!

That's all for the approvals up until now.  I'll have another (and more timely list) ready later this week.

Cheers,

Rose

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books I'm Looking Forward to this Fall
The Iron Warrior (The Iron Fey) - Julie Kagawa
Illuminae - Jay Kristoff,Amie Kaufman
This Is Where It Ends - Marieke Nijkamp
Hotel Ruby - Suzanne Young
I Crawl Through It - A.S. King
Soundless - Richelle Mead
Until We Meet Again - Renee Collins
Cam Girl - Leah Raeder
Hold Me Close - Megan Hart
We'll Never Be Apart - Emiko Jean

Yet another Tuesday, and yet another Top Ten. :)  I'm seriously enjoying these prompts, and if you're interested in participating, you can find it hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week has me listing my top ten most anticipated reads for the fall season.  Some of these I have as galleys, and others I have on auto buy.  I don't know if I can put them in a list in order because I'm excited for all of them, but hey - what can you do but do your best to try?  So here goes:

We'll Never Be Apart - Emiko Jean

10. "We'll Never Be Apart" by Emiko Jean:   This book caught my attention because of two things: twins and psychological thriller.  I'm pretty much sold on those two aspects alone, but the premise for this is really fascinating.  I'm looking forward to reading it (and I have it as a galley, so I'm happy dancing at the chance to read it before release).

Hotel Ruby - Suzanne Young

9. "Hotel Ruby" by Suzanne Young:  Creepy hotel that promises its occupants will never want to leave?  I'm sold.  I like horror/thriller/suspense/mystery books very much, so it sounds like a book right up my alley.  There have been some mixed opinions from ARC readers though, so it's just a matter of seeing what happens.

Until We Meet Again - Renee Collins

8: "Until We Meet Again" by Renee Collins: This is another I have as an ARC and I'm excited to get the chance to read it before it releases this Fall.  I'm into time travel stories/stories that cross different periods.

Soundless - Richelle Mead

7. "Soundless" by Richelle Mead: I think I'm definitely ready to read another series starter by Richelle Mead, and for the fact that this is based on Chinese Folklore (plus, look at that epic cover!)  I'm really excited about it and can't wait to read it.

Cam Girl - Leah Raeder

6. "Cam Girl" by Leah Raeder: I really liked "Black Iris" and enjoyed aspects of "Unteachable", so it's no surprise I'd pick up this latest novel from Leah Raeder.  And the premise has me really invested because it's not only featuring protagonists that have little featuring in New Adult, but actually among several romances that I've picked up personally.  I got an ARC for this and should be reading it quite soon.

Hold Me Close - Megan Hart

5. "Hold Me Close" by Megan Hart: I mentioned my eagerness for this in my previous post featuring NetGalley reads I was approved for.  I really enjoy Megan Hart's writing and I've loved how she's touched on difficult topics in her various books, also for character depth and investment.  This is one of her erotic titles (as opposed to other genres she's written in: paranormal, romance, literary fic, etc), so it should be interesting to see how she treats the topic covered here.

I Crawl Through It - A.S. King

4. "I Crawl Through It" by A.S. King: I always look forward to A.S. King's narratives because they treat such unique and difficult subjects in an invested way.  This sounds like it'll be an emotional read from the premise alone.

Illuminae - Jay Kristoff,Amie Kaufman

3. "Illuminae" by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: I've read from both of these authors before, and I've known about this book for quite some time.  I'm especially intrigued to see how this story's told through the different mediums it features and the fact it takes place on a futuristic planet where a deadly plague has broken out.  I'm hoping to read this in another couple of weeks before its release in late October.

This Is Where It Ends - Marieke Nijkamp

2. "This is Where it Ends" by Marieke Njkamp: I'm expecting an emotional read out of this book because it deals with a very difficult subject matter: a school shooting.  The bullet through the chalk featured on the cover was a jarringly nice touch, and the premise hooked me from point one.  I have this as a galley and plan to read it as soon as I can.

The Iron Warrior (The Iron Fey) - Julie Kagawa

1.  "The Iron Warrior" by Julie Kagawa: I've been waiting on my eager hands for this last book in this trilogy of the Iron Fey series: Call of the Forgotten.  I really liked Ethan as a main character, and the last book in this series ended on such an emotional cliffhanger, my reaction was akin to "Noooooooooooooooooo!"  I'm wondering how it's all going to march to its conclusion, but I'll admit when it's over, it's going to be a bittersweet experience.

Until next week's entry,

~Rose
