Hadley is losing time, and her shadow refuses to shed light on the gaps in her memory. How can she protect her city if she can't remember where she goes or what she does when she ought to be asleep? Her grim history appears to be stuck on repeat, and the only way forward might be a scythe through her back.

Pack of Lies is book two of The Potentate of Atlanta series by Hailey Edwards.

Hadley is growing on me and the redemption storyline for her is working. I like her humor and how she uses it as a way to deflect when her feelings become too complicated.

Ambrose is a fun character and an unapologetic killer, but he makes me laugh.

I like that Hadley and Midas are finally working towards a relationship, even thou it seems like it’s impossible. They both have issues and the romance is a slow build.

The story moves along at a nice steady pace. The action is entertaining, but our main focus seemed to be on Hadley and Midas’s relationship.

In this story we are treated to some type of magical roach creature. This storyline was a bit confusing to me and we don’t get any true understanding on this or conclusion, yet. Hopeful more will be reveled in the next installment. As for the ending we do end on a cliffhanger. Now, I’m not a fan of those, but nothing I can do about that.

The one thing that got to me is how much she relies on Linus still. I feel she needs to start weaning away and not calling him on every little thing all the time. It’s ok to need someone to bounce ideas off, but I feel she calls him to much. I get she’s still in the probation faze, but one day she’s going to need to rely on her team and herself.

Pack of Lies was another good book in the series. It did leave me a little confused, but I like that we are seeing Midas and Hadley work on a relationship. I’m looking forward to the next installment.

Groom? Check.

Dress? Check.

Cake? Check.

More cake? Double Check.

Even more cake? Triple check.

(Seriously, who left Lethe alone with Grier's credit card?)

Anything that can go wrong has,but all the deposits have been paid, and the menus are set. Mostly. There's always room for more cake, right? All that's left is for Grier and Linus to exchange vows and set off on their honeymoon. Their happily ever after awaits, so close they can taste it.

No.

Wait.

That's probably just more cake. Frosting gets everywhere.

Anyway, there's also murder, arson, and general mayhem. This is what happens when two potentates marry. Just cross your fingers they survive exchanging vows, and that the knot they tie doesn't turn into a noose.

How to Kiss an Undead Bride was a satisfactory novella that finally gives fans the Wedding they have all been waiting for.

All the players and friends from The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy come out to play. Two years have past since the ending of the series and now we finally get the Wedding of the century, but someone from Grier’s past is interfering.

Linus and Grier finally tie the knot and we get a little subterfuge plot to keep things rolling along. We and the characters are all looking one way, when someone else comes from the other direction and stabs you in the back. We also see a lot and learn a little more about the gwyllgi pack in Savannah too.

This novella features Lines and Grier’s POV. We also get crossover mentions to the Black Dog, Gemini, and The Potentate of Atlanta series. The Atlanta series is ok, but the other mentions didn’t need to be said. They had no purpose.

As for Grier this isn’t the Grier I remember. In the series she was more independent and fought to gain the knowledge she needs. Here she no longer rides the motorcycle, she no longer is studying necromancy, and didn’t sound like she was taking her role as Potentate seriously. She relies on her genetic memory to help her get out of situations or Linus to handle things.

As for the friendship between Lethe and Grier it felt like Lethe is using Grier to do whatever she wants whenever she wants and Grier is using Lethe so she can have no boundaries. Not a healthy friendship in my opinion.

Now, this book is not designed to be read on it’s own or before the series. The series is a read in order.

How to Kiss an Undead Bride was all right.

Hadley Whitaker is a liar, a killer, and a chocoholic, but she’s getting better about the first two. Or maybe she’s just getting better at them.

Some days it’s hard for her to tell fact from fiction, but only one truth matters. Goddess willing, she’s going to be the next Potentate of Atlanta. Even if it means playing nice with Midas Kinase, a shifter whose mysterious past might just be grimmer than her own.

When a bloodthirsty rogue begins hunting the city’s paranormals, Hadley ropes Midas into letting her work the case. But that rope starts to feel more like a noose as they come closer to discovering not only the rogue’s identity, but each other’s darkest secrets.

WOW! I wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did; because I know Hadley’s story, but I have to say I like where the author is going in redeeming this character, giving use more on her background, & introducing use to the gwyllgi and a possible romance.

The action and mystery on who the killer is and what their goal is was great and well done. I didn’t see that someone was playing all the other characters.

Do you need to read The Beginners Guide to Necromancy series before reading this spin-off? No!
Would I recommend reading The Beginners Guide to Necromancy? Yes!

This series can stand on its own and Edwards does a great job giving newbies to the series a run down of important events and connections. For me thou I’m glad I read The Beginners Guide to Necromancy first. I had the pleasure of knowing Hadley’s flaws and seeing connections; then if I started with this series.

Shadow of Doubt was a wonderful debut to Hadley, Atlanta, and all it’s characters. I had a blast and can’t wait to see what’s next.

Savannah has fallen to the vampires, and it’s up to Grier to take out their leader, Gaspard Lacroix, and restore peace. Lacroix might be more powerful and immune to her magic, but she’s got a plan. Too bad it’s got holes big enough for a new threat to waltz through while the city is on her knees.

Now Grier must risk her very soul if she hopes to slay her enemies and prevent her world from going up in flames. But salvation comes at a steep price, and she’s not the only one who will pay. The cost just might break her, and the man who owns her heart.

"I was no longer helpless Old Grier. I was New Grier, and she was fierce. - 58% How to Wake an Undead City"

The end has come for The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy. I’m sad to say goodbye to Savannah, Grier and company. It’s been a roller coaster ride of emotions and surprises.

When we left Grier and company, Savannah had fallen into the vampires hands.

In How to Wake an Undead City we finally get answers to questions, surprises that I didn’t see coming, and we see Greir come into her own. She still has a lot to learn, but with the help of friends and Linus at her side she’ll finally become what she was meant to be.

Edwards has a way of making you feel and care for all her characters from new to old. We see a resolution regarding Amelie and Boaz. I’m happy and grateful to have that done. And very pleased with how Grier dealt with both brother and sister. I was pleased to see how Linus and Grier’s relationship developed and how they plan to stay together. The author also treats use to battles mixed among moments of life. Last, we have a deadly vampire to stop. The ending delivered some unexpected twist and surprises. I was captured from begging to end!

This final novel answered questions, complemented the characters, and gave us closure, but also left the doors open for revisits. It also delivered the perfect setup for the spinoff series that begins with Shadow of Doubt. I’m happy and pleased with how The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series ends.

How to Save an Undead Life
How to Save an Undead Life (The Beginner's Guide to Necromancy Book 1) - Hailey Edwards
While I enjoyed the writing and found the world interesting, I had a hard time getting into this one. Grier was incarcerated at 16 for a killing someone (hint she didn't do it- not a spoiler). At 21 she is expectantly released, but why? That's one of the things that is discussed (shall we say) in this book.
While I really liked Grier (she has PTSD from her incarceration), I also thought she read younger then 21. I was worried at first because this had a hint of a love triangle, but luckily it wasn't. Boaz and Grier's relationship was confusing to me- it seems romantic at times and then brother-sister-ish at times.
I did like the thing with necromancers and vampires. That was interesting. I loved Woolly and the idea of giving a house sentience.
