Just starting ...
Too Like the Lightning - Ada Palmer

After a really long hiatus, publisher TOR (Macmillan publishing group) just reinstated* their monthly free ebook club (join by adding your email, no charge, will all be Science Fiction or Fantasy genre ebooks).

There's a booklikes bookclub at http://booklikes.com/book-clubs/88/tor-monthly-free-ebook-science-fiction-and-fantasy if anyone cares to join in he read.  Club hasn't seen much activity because almost as soon as booklikes club started TOR tabled the program for a while.

Not actually sure about the book.  New to me author.  Book description makes it sound like could be a juicy, immersive read for me withh lots of politics, worldbuilding and religion -- or else too bogged down in politics and religion if done wrong.

*ETA or not just reinstated.  See Familiar Diversions comment, thye got a February one I missed.  My apologies to the booklikes bookclub for missing it.  I'll update club shelves when I found out what the February book was.

We Have Always Been Here & Always Will Be: On the Hugo Awards and Cultural Vandalism

"Awards are not and have never been solely used as a marker of merit, and shouldn’t be viewed as such: But what they can be used for is to provide a weathervane of the changing industry and the people and trends that drive it. That’s why what the Sad/Rabid Puppies have done matters. They may not be the most prominent voices in the industry, and their abhorrent views may be condemned in public, but the fact that they were allowed to fester for so long undisturbed speaks volumes."

The Long List Anthology - now available!

Remember how there was a Kickstarter for the 2015 Hugo Awards long list anthology? Well, the book is now available. I'm probably going to buy it, even though I'm not a huge short works fan, because there are a few in the collection that I'd like to read. The only one I've read before is T. Kingfisher's "Toad Words."

The Hugo Awards...and the Soul of Fandom (from Flavorwire)

I know a lot of readers have been following the clusterfuck attempt to derail the Hugos this year. This short article gives a brief look at how the awards have closed on a positive, if somewhat ambiguous, note. I voted this year, so I'm happy to say my little voice contributed to the failure of the Puppies to achieve their ultimate ends (as did many others- voting this year was up 65%). This is not a permanent victory, but it's something.
