Last weeks broke the news that Jennifer Lawrence will take part in yet another book adaptation. After spectacular success of Hunger Games trilogy (the second part of Mockingjay hits theaters this Fall) the news may not surprise you but did you know that JLaw has a collection of ten movies based on books in her filmography? Here's an overview of Lawrence's book-to-movie picks, including those already made and awaiting movie projects.

When asked about favorite YA series JLaw answered without hesitation:

 

Harry Potter. I was so crazy about Harry Potter I read it twice.

All of them twice. I didn’t have a favorite,

I thought they were all amazing.

 

Although JLaw picked Rowling's fantasy series as her ultimate hit she's more than eager to cast in book-to-movie adaptations from various genres. The actress has been known and appreciated by movie critics prior Hunger Games Part One movie but it is this very title that brought her international fame and crowds of fans. Hunger Games trilogy, however, wasn't the first adaptation Lawrence took part in. 

 

• In Winter's Bone based on Daniel Woodrell's novel Jennifer Lawrence played seventeen-year-old Ree Dolly who looked after her mentally ill mother. The actress gained praises and left a significant mark in the movie business receiving numerous awards and nominations proving she's a young and much talented actress.

• From media coverage and press releases we've learnt that Jennifer Lawrence closed deals for four more book adaptations, which include retelling of John Steinbeck's East of Eden, romance The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion, Hannah Kent’s Burial Rites and memoir It's What I Do: A Photographer's Life of Love and War by Lynsey Addario  who was one of four journalists held captive by the Libyan Army in 2011.

Honest, fun, enjoyable...
Yeah these are the words that come to my mind when I think of this book. It sure was a good read and I really liked this book. The best thing that I like about the book is the characters. Matthew Quick has created magically dark, deep, lovely and mysterious characters that take the story forward. But still the book at some places is slow and a little unbearable to read. 

Halfway through the book and I still don't know what the real plot is...? It really gets better with more involvement of Tiffany, Cliff and Jake in Pat Peoples' life. ( I really loved the name Pat PEOPLES...! ) The best chapter of the book was My Movie's Montage. Loved the way how Quick wrote this chapter, with small paragraphs describing the hard work put together by Tiffany and Pat for their dance. This chapter really makes you smile. :) 

One of the best things about the book was its book to film adaptation. The movie was really good. Having the image of Jennifer Lawrence as Tiffany and Bradley Cooper as Pat really makes reading the book enjoyable. 

The Silver Linings Playbook has taught me to always look for the silver lining in everything and never to lose hope. But it also taught me not to cling to one particular thing for too long if it is bad for you or practically unachievable. So whenever the time is right, let go of that thing. But never, ever lose hope.

Mit eigenen Worten
Es geht um Pat, der psychisch krank ist und von seiner Mutter aus der Psychiatrie abgeholt wird. Pats einziger Lebensinhalt ist, die Auszeit mit seiner Frau Nikki zu beenden, doch irgendwie hat Pat eine falsche Sicht auf die Dinge. Außerdem lernt er Tiffany kennen, die mindestens genau abgedreht ist wie er und irgendwie helfen sie sich dann gegenseitig.

 

Wirkung
Das Buch erinnert mich äußerlich ein wenig an das Cover von "the fault in our stars", ich mag mich täuschen. Ich finde es zumindest sehr ansprechend, ich mag die Farben und auch Gestaltung mit den Wolken hat durchaus Sinn und Verstand. Der Titel gefällt mir auch ganz gut vor allem, weil ich die Übersetzung "Silberstreifen" nicht so bombastisch finde.

 

Positives

Den Einstieg in das Buch habe ich als sehr positiv empfunden, weil es den Leser genau in Pats jetztiger Situation abholt. Er beschreibt, dass er in der Psychiatrie ist und dass seine Ma ihn da jetzt herausholt. Man kann sich einen ersten Überblick über die Situation und auch über Pat und seine Ma verschaffen. Das Buch ist aus Pats Sicht geschrieben, also als Ich-Erzähler, was mir natürlich wieder sehr gut passt, gerade bei psychischen Erkrankungen finde ich die Wahl gut, weil man so Handlungen des Kranken besser nachvollziehen kann, schließlich kann man in seinen Kopf gucken. Die andere Charaktere wie Mom, Tiffany, Dad konnte man sich gut vorstellen, wenn ich es auch ein bisschen schade fand, dass Tiffany und Dad im Film zu ganz anders dargestellt wurden. Im Buch konnte ich beide irgendwie nicht leiden.
Dann hat mir leider erst wieder das Ende gefallen, auch wenn ich es ein bisschen als Notlösung empfunden habe.

 

Negatives
Als erstes muss ich mit dem Verlauf anfangen, der mich leider gar nicht von sich überzeugen konnte, genauso wie das Tempo. Es ging mir alles viel zu sehr und viel zu detailliert um die Football Spiele, ich habe wirklich gedacht ich werde verrückt. Am liebsten hätte ich die ganzen Football Seiten überblättert, aber dann wäre wahrscheinlich nicht mehr viel übrig geblieben. Ehrlich gesagt habe ich im Mittelteil des Buches gar keinen Verlauf bemerkt. Auch die Gefühlvermittlung kam mir bei dem Ganzen viel zu kurz, ich konnte kaum Emotionen spüren oder nachvollziehen, außer während der Auftritt Szene.

Note 4 {ausreichend}
Ich vergebe hier mal noch eine vier, auch wenn es wahrscheinlich eigentlich eher eine 5 sein sollte, aber ich habe das Buch ja gelesen, nachdem ich den Film gesehen hatte und hatte durch den tollen Film wahrscheinlich einfach auch zu hohe Erwartungen an das Buch. Es konnte mich im Ganzen einfach nicht von sich überzeugen, dafür waren mir zu wenig Emotionen und zu viel Football. Wer sich für die Geschichte interessiert kriegt von mir diesmal -Schande über mich- wirklich den einfachen Tipp: Guckt den Film. Der ist meiner Meinung nach besser gestaltet. Nicht so langatmig und natürlich mit tollen Schauspielern.
 Ansonsten würde ich dieses Buch Lesern empfehlen, die sich für Football interessieren und kein Problem damit haben längere Abhandlungen davon zu lesen.

Dzień 19 - Favorite book turned into movie

 

Ulubiona ekranizacja :-) Jak już wspominałem, rzadko oglądam filmy, więc zwykle nie mam okazji porównać książkę z jej filmową adaptacją. Jednak ekranizacja "Poradnika pozytywnego myślenia" wybitnie przypadła mi do gustu - na tyle, że już po obejrzeniu wersji na wielki ekran zdecydowałem się przeczytać książkę.
Lektura - baaaardzo przyjemna, definitywnie w moim stylu.
Film - zupełnie inny, jednak również genialny.

Uwielbiam "Poradnik" nie tylko za super kreację Jennifer Lawrence(Oskarowa rola ^^), ale za całokształt opowiedzianej historii. By nie wspomnieć o Bradley Cooperze, który może nie powalił mnie na kolana, jednak zaliczył również bardzo udany występ.

Ekranizacja w znaczny sposób różni się od książki. Poza ogólnym zarysem przewodzącym obu, zaryzykowałbym stwierdzenie, że to dwie, zupełnie inne historie. Lecz w tym przypadku, uproszczenie fabuły i dodanie trochę bardziej pozytywnego zakończenia wyszło twórcom filmu na plus. Tytuł, który w książce był bardziej rozumiany jako przenośnia stylu życia Pata, w ekranizacji staje się podsumowaniem całego dzieła. Wyszło to wszystko bardzo zgrabnie :-)

"Jennifer Lawrence: Star of the Hunger Games" is a wonderful, brief showcase of the title star's life and accomplishments so far. Oriented towards primary and secondary students as a reference, this biography is a fairly quick read (just under 50 pages in my copy), supplementing pictures of the star as a young girl and in some of her acclaimed roles and movies (including the one I know her best from - Winter's Bone). But while it does focus on the star's life and pursuits as an actress, it also includes photos and brief bits of information into the process of the Hunger Games and the press surrounding that, including the chosen actors for the roles.The balance between information and illustration is appropriate for the audience, easy to follow, and engaging to learn in the measure of what is a very popular series, coinciding with the buzz for the upcoming movie. No doubt it would appeal to this particular audience given the popularity of the books for this age group, and I think its positive tone and presentation would be a valuable add to a library or collection of brief biographies for those anticipating Lawrence's role in the Hunger Games movie.Overall score: 4/5Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher Learner Publishing Group.
