What Is Your Meaning of Success – Climbing Maya by Ken La Salle @KenLaSalle
Climbing Maya - Ken La Salle

Climbing Maya

Amazon  /  Audible  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Ego can be one of our biggest downfalls, or at least it is for Ken.

In our youth, we feel all things are possible. Who do we end up disappointed? Do we expect too much? Some people accept the world as it is, others fight to change it. Some people go through life with a smile, others a frown. Which are you?

Some people turn to religion, philosophy, health and exercise. Whatever regimen allows us to cope.

What is success? It means something different to each of us. Does it take a major event… divorce, loss of a job…to make us reassess ourselves? Denial doesn’t stop things from happening and challenging your boss won’t save your job.

I wondered about the title…Climbing Maya..and it is one man’s search for success. Why do people climb mountains? Is there only one answer? My mind is spinning, yet I have my answer…am I content with my life? Yes. I have many of the things I dreamt of and more. I am content and happy to be able to do the things I love in life and have someone to share them with.

I can relate to Vicky and her ‘support’ of her man. She sounds a lot like me. And…yo dude…I am glad you figured it out and moved on.

One man’s journey for the meaning of success opens his eyes to what is truly valuable and meaningful in his world and isn’t that how it should be?

Climbing Maya by Ken La Salle is a thought provoking book that may keep you up at night as you ponder what is your meaning to success.

What Is Your Definition of Art – Work of Art by Ken La Salle @KenLaSalle
An Intention of Flowers (Work of Art) (Volume 1) - Ken La Salle

I love the cover for Work of Art by Ken La Salle, when something so simple can say so much.

Work of Art: An Intention of Flowers

Goodreads  /  Amazon

MY REVIEW

What is your definition of art? After reading Work of Art by Ken La Salle, you may change your mind.

The whole time I’m reading, I’m trying to take notes, but the words won’t come. This is one of those books that took me down a road I didn’t anticipate, but I was happy to have traveled.

Andy Hollis is fascinated, some would say obsessed, with Joseph Avilla, a young artist who is painting flowers on the asphalt parking lot. Why? Some would ask, why not?

Joseph has a home, a mother and a father, but Andy only sees him painting in the parking lot at all hours of the day and night.

Andy is an art teacher and thinks Joseph needs to be in his class. I think the one who will learn the most is Andy.

We all march to a different drummer and have to find our own way, though a little help from our friends never hurts.

The characters and their motivations grow and change, as do the situations they find themselves in.

This is one of those reviews that was hard for me to write. I just can’t seem to find the words…BUT, once I started to read Work of Art, I couldn’t stop until I reached the end and I am really looking forward to the next one.

Ken La Salle writes with attitude, sarcasm, wit. and humor. His books always surprise me and that is a very good thing.

Didn't Like It
The Lady of Royale Street (NOLA Nights Book 3) - Thea de Salle

Alex DuMont shows up to assist his brother with his upcoming wedding. Theresa Ivarson is the bride’s best friend and maid of honor. After a disaster with the wedding planner, they must work together to make the wedding come together just right. This book didn’t work for me. I really didn’t like the the characters starting with Alex and the introduction of his brother and the other side characters. Unfortunately the story didn’t capture my attention enough to make up for the irritation the characters caused me. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

The Lady of Royale Street (NOLA Nights Book 3) - Thea de Salle

NOLA Nights are mysterious, exotic and hard to resist. Ms. De Salle has imagined a world where the men are hot enough to chase away the chill and the women are smart enough to go in for the kill. The Lady of Royale Street sets the mood for some summer fun in the sun and some steamy summer nights.

Memories From The 70’s – False Starts by Ken La Salle @KenLaSalle
False Starts: Mistakes & Missteps Growing up in the 70s - Ken La Salle,Ken La Salle,Ken La Salle

Ken La Salle is an amazing author that dips his feet into many genres.

I have enjoyed everything I have read by him, so to get a glimpse into what makes him tick is an opportunity I can’t pass up.

Are you ready to take a blast to the past…The 1970’s coming up.

False Starts: Mistakes & Missteps Growing Up In The 70s

Amazon  /  Goodreads

Normally I am getting lost in make believe, but now and then I feel a need to gain insight into the real world, and to learn more about an author that I enjoy is an opportunity I can’t pass up.

I have read several of Ken La Salle’s wonderful, wacky and creepy books, so to learn where all that talent came from is something I was more than happy to do.

A box of memories started this journey.

“It was the hippest of times. It was the funkiest of times. It was the 1970s.”

What would your box of memories hold?

In False Starts, Ken La Salle shares his life during the 70s. Do you remember what you were doing?

His talk of TV and music strikes home to me. A lot of people think the 60s was a time of change, but the 70s brought so many more options for our viewing and listening pleasure. Do you remember Hot Wheels, 45s, or the Smother’s Brothers, who were only on one season because they were too disrespectful?

Ken La Salle grew up poor with his mom and siblings. I cannot understand from personal experience the lack of enough food, going hungry and no clothes to wear. It wasn’t like I had a lot, but I had what was needed and an occasional goodie or two.

It’s hard to feel sad for Ken when I was reading the book, because of his writing style. Is it a positive spin he puts on it or is it his drive to find what he was good at, what would work for him and make his life a good one. I find myself nodding and smiling as I read along sharing similar memories.

He finds those moments of light and happiness that shine through the darkness.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip down memory lane and getting to know an author I plan on following for a long time.  I think it is because of his upbringing that he is able to write so well in very different genres with his humorous bent shining through the written words.

As long as you are moving forward in life, it can appear to you as though it were a series of False Starts.

I can only imagine what fun it would be to listen to this in as an audiobook., which is available.
