Die Insel der besonderen Kider // Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children!!!
Die Insel der besonderen Kinder - Ransom Riggs

Alles in allem. Ich liebe das Buch echt und so lange nicht irgendwas passiert, was ich dem Autor nicht verzeihen kann, könnte es zu einer meiner Lieblingsserien werden.

***

This is one of the books that you can't escape from, booktubers talk about it all the time and I read about it on bookblogs so much, most of it, talking about how amazing it is. So that made me a bit cautious, cause books like that can turn out to be a huge disappointment. Been there, done that!

However, I thought the book was even better than I thought it would be. The story itself was super intriguing and interesting; the stories Jacob's grandfather told him, the pictures (I thought the actual pictures in the book gave the whole thing a nice touch and made it a bit more special.), the adventures that started after Jacob's grandpa died and Jacob was left with so many questions and he did everything to find the answers.

Right from the beginning, I had no problem really getting into the story and the writing and got through the book quickly. Even though 'quickly' has a totally different meaning for me right now. But still, I enjoyed every page and every chapter.

The world in the book was wonderfully written and described. I especially loved the setting in the time loop, so intriguing and overall, I really love the element of timetravel. I'm glad we learned a bit more about it towards the end of the book, how it works and kind of a preview of other timetravels they will make. (I'm so excited to see what will happen next!!!! And as soon as I have read the new Girl Online book, I will be all over book #2)

I loved every peculiar child. Everyone of them and their abilities.

Ever moment Jacob had with them and the friendships that formed and how they worked together. Did I mention that I'm super excited to see what's still in store for them???

Overall. I loved the book and as long as the author doesn't do something unforgivable, this could turn into one of my favorite series.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children #1) by Ransom Riggs

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of curious photographs.

A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

my though

First I liked to say that I kind of feel stupid when it comes to this book. Simply because I judged a book by its cover. I saw the book many times and a lot of places but just looked at the cover and thought it is another book about haunted places or so. I didn’t pay much more t attention to it until I saw the trailer for the movie and recognized it. So of course I had to go out and buy the book. Just because. I really enjoyed this kind of unique book, a book with old weird pictures but a story been written around them. I loved that even though there are many different types of pictures in this book they are all fit into the story or the story first with the pictures is more like it. I have a hard time reviewing this book, not sure what to say other than, It was great and fanatic and took me on a great magical and chilling journey. I liked Jacob, even when he had doubts he never really lost faith before he knew everything. I thought he adapted really fast to this new world he discovered I really liked all characters they all had they backstory and a part great part in this book. Of course I liked some more than others. Millard was one other characters I really enjoyed. Miss Peregrine, I liked to but thought there was still some kind of mystery to her. Overall I really loved the mix of old and modern world. We get a great look at the world 1940 but yet a lot of the modern era and how it mixes. I also thought it was one of the easier “Time travel” stories I have read in a while. Complex but yet super easy to understand and follow, which I really enjoyed. There was a great deal of action and twist in the book. It kept me captivated from the first few pages. I really liked the ending and cannot wait to see how their story continues. The only minor thing that bothered me was that I would have liked see more a conclusion with his dad. But maybe we will get more of that in the next book or book. Which I surely will pick up soon.

I rate it 4 ★

Some of my favorite quotes:

“I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary. I had simply failed to notice how extraordinary it was.”

“We cling to our fairy tales until the price for believing in them becomes too high.”

A Trilogy With Adventures of Peculiar Children and Vintage Photos...
Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children Boxed Set - Ransom Riggs

Its a real challenge to read continuously a young adult trilogy books. I have other books that I read along with this but this has been a journey of sorts that took me more than a month to complete it. What can I say - I enjoyed Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children even though the ending wasn't that great, Hollow City really pick up where the first one was left with a pacing that is fast and filled with action and a twist, and the theme it was getting darker in the second book. Library of Souls ends with, well... quite a satisfying read with an ending that just ends with a good note.

Ransom Riggs did a good job in incorporating black and white photos along with the story. Yes, every characters written is well-thought of and given a development we can follow easily. I do tend to get lost if too many characters are introduced but in a way, it was weave in pretty well. The description of each chapter is well-written and quite atmospheric - it does bring you to a place unlike any other. But like most fantasy adventure and even for a young adult book, there is that similar distinctive end to it you know, that feeling you have come across such stories if you are a season reader. Nevertheless, it has been a while I enjoy a thorough one fantasy adventure series... let alone a trilogy that I manage to complete.

About the box set - I love the hardcover editions plus the 12 photo cards that comes with it. The slipcase is hardbound and it does look good on your shelf, plus with the dust jackets that comes with it. I am happy to say this edition is worth the wait to buy since I was curious about the first book since it was release 3 years back. Glad I got this edition.

Library of Souls - Ransom Riggs

Reading this almost a year after it came out, that’s pretty early for me!

First of all, thank you Ransom Riggs for creating such a spectacularly different story, seriously if anything it was so refreshing.

I am so glad this series is less horror and takes a turn into more paranormal!

The world building was great, albeit I may have skimmed some chapters, and the characters felt so very real in what they were going through.

Like I mentioned, I found this to be such a unique tale and I can’t wait to read other stories by this author. My only gripe is that the chapters are a tad too long to read in one sitting, but it’s only a personal preference of mine as I’m a bit of a slow reader.
