Minds of Winter by Ed O'Loughlin sets a fictional story around a lost polar expedition. Unfortunately, the story lacks an anchor, jumping through time periods, locations, and perspectives. At times, it seems more a collection of short stories loosely linked together. Having read the book and then researched the history, I did learn about the mystery of John Franklin's fatal expedition. Sadly, too many characters, too many plot lines, and a confusing timeline keep this from being the book for me.

„Open Minds – Gefährliche Gedanken“ von Susan Kaye Quinn ist der erste Teil einer Dystopie-Reihe.

Eine Welt voller Gedankenleser. Die Menschen sprechen nicht miteinander sie teilen ihre Gedanken mit allen. Kira hat sich noch nicht gewandelt und hört keine Gedanken. Sie denkt, dass sie eine Null ist und es nie können wird. Bis sie zu dem Tag an dem sie ihrem besten Freund Raf mit einem Gedankenwunsch schwer verletzt …

Kira wächst in einer Welt auf, in der jeder mitbekommt, was die anderen denken. Nur sie kann es nicht. Auf der einen Seite würde sie gerne dazu gehören, aber auf der anderen Seite geht sie gut damit um, dass sie anders ist. Sie ist stark und das strahlt sie auch aus.

Die Charaktere sind liebevoll gestaltet und wirken sehr real. So kann man sich als Leser gut mit ihnen identifizieren und mitfühlen.

Gedanken lesen zu können, ist sicher manchmal etwas praktisch. Man wüsste dann sofort woran man ist. Aber die Autorin beleuchtet auch die negativen Aspekte. Denn möchte man wirklich, dass jeder immer alles weiß, was man denkt? Was wäre wenn man die Gedanken kontrollieren kann?

Die Story an sich macht neugierig und regt zum Nachdenken an. Sie ist sehr rasant und fesselt den Leser. Doch so manche Stelle wirkt etwas zu übertrieben. Da fühlt es sich so an, als müsste jetzt noch eins obendrauf gesetzt werden. Aber dennoch kommt der Lesespaß nicht zu kurz.

Das Cover zeigt ein Mädchen, welches die Hand vor dem Gesicht austreckt. Dies könnte Kira sein.

Wieder eine tolle Dystopie. Die Idee mit dem Gedankenlesen /-manipulieren finde ich richtig gelungen. Doch hatte ich von manchen Stellen das Gefühl, dass die Autorin die Spannung künstlich gepusht hat. Dennoch wollte ich wissen, wie es mit Kira weite geht.
