Rimini - Pier Vittorio Tondelli

The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie
The A.B.C. Murders (Hercule Poirot, #13) - Agatha Christie

Series: Hercule Poirot #13

A murderer seems to be working his (or her) way through his (or her) victims using The ABC Railway Guide. Hastings makes an appearance and the mystery is quite entertaining although the investigation and resolution flounder a bit before we get to the ending and the various reveals.

I read this for booklikes-opoly square Paradise Pier 30 “Read a book with a twist”. There is, of course, a twist in a Poirot mystery, so I’m counting the 331 pages as another $6 added to my bank, giving me a new balance of $235.

Booklikes-opoly Turn 32 (July 16th)

Bank Balance: $229

Starting from Cars Land 16...doubles!

A square I've never landed on before! I have lots of choices though.

The Pilgrim of Hate - Ellis Peters  The Chatter of the Maidens - Alys Clare  What Angels Fear - C.S. Harris  The Nun's Tale - Candace Robb  Cruel as the Grave - Sharon Kay Penman  Sacred Treason - James Forrester  The Iron Hand of Mars - Lindsey Davis A Study In Scarlet Women: The Lady Sherlock Series - Sherry Thomas

Too bad my copy for the More Historical Than Fiction Bookclub read hasn't come in from the library yet because I think it would fit too.

This one is always tricky for me because I don't have a "suspense" tag for my shelves, and I'm not entirely sure what counts as suspenseful. Are we talking thrillers? I seem to have these choices:

The A.B.C. Murders (Hercule Poirot, #13) - Agatha Christie  By Gaslight: A Novel - Steven D. Price  The Mermaids Singing - Val McDermid

And maybe some of the historical mysteries too.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larsson

Series: Millennium #1

I’m not sure how to describe this book. It was mystery and a thriller and I didn’t particularly like any of the characters, but I still had fun with it. I know I complained about it at about the 80% mark but it did finish off with a more upbeat resolution so I think I can confidently assert that I liked the book even though I didn’t like everything about it.

I did quite like the fact that it turned out that it was Harriet who kept sending Henrik Vanger pressed flowers on his birthday and not her killer. I still don’t feel like rating it higher because of the cat, however.

(spoiler show)

Anyway, I’m more enthusiastic about reading the rest of the series now, so I’ll probably be picking up the next one eventually.

I read this for booklikes-opoly Paradise Pier #30 “Read a book with a twist or that is tagged as ‘suspense’ on GR, or that has more than 555 pages”. It meets the first two criteria, although I think some paperback editions were printed with more than 555 pages. I’m counting it as 480 pages though, so I’m adding another $5 to my bank balance, bringing the total to $109. I feel like I’m getting behind.

Dark and weird short stories
The Pier Falls: And Other Stories - Mark Haddon

Some are good. Some are haunting.

Short stories were really my cup of tea. So I'm not enjoying this as much as I like to.

It is a just a matter of trust. I trust that some stories would be good and hit the spot. Some would be disappointing.

This is one of those book that you read while waiting for a phone call, or the next movie ot be on.

Just taking a break from doing something else.

I need much more warm up for liking a character in a story, be it in a book, a comic or on TV.

It is like one of those Goosebumps stories with some hits and misses.
