#10 - Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Caraval - Stephanie Garber

I requested this book on NetGalley a few weeks ago but did not got approved. I thought, not a big deal, I'll wait for it to come out. Then I went to Maastricht and found it in the bookstore (really, I should check this place more often, they have a lot of new releases), it was not even supposed to be out yet.

Anyway, I grabbed it. And I was really surprised by this book. I was not expecting that at all. I was expecting something darker and bloodier (even if there was some blood and it was not always joyful), but that was fine. There was something totally crazy about this book and I loved it.

The events of the book take place in a few days (or rather nights) and it was quite fast-paced. I did not really keep track of all the events, the plot had not such a great importance for me because I was mesmerized by the world the author created and the crazy ideas she had. It wasn't like anything I had ever read. It was different and I liked that.

The characters were great and difficult to pinpoint. They were not that complex, there was a sort of good against evil, but some of them were really mysterious.

I recommend this book if you're in the mood for some craziness.

January Wrap-Up

I read a total of 9 books in January. Not too bad! Most of the books I read were absolutely amazing/enjoyable. Two of them did not really keep my interest, but I still manage to finish them (and they got 3 stars because I feel like these books could be enjoyed by other people, they were not bad, just not for me.)

5 stars:

The Crown's Game - Evelyn Skye  Traitor to the Throne - Alwyn Hamilton  Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy) by Taylor, Laini (2012) Paperback - Laini Taylor

4 stars:

The Jewel - Amy Ewing  Heartless - Marissa Meyer  Rebel of the Sands - Alwyn Hamilton  The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold

3 stars:

Confessions From A Coffee Shop - T. B. Markinson  Unfurl - Cidney Swanson

I watched many movies and series episode! I'm almost done with Gilmore Girls, I have 3 episodes left before finishing season 7 (which is the last one before the new season). I'm also currently watching Shadowhunters as the episodes are coming out. I'm still not sure about this series, I love to see the world of the Mortal Instruments on screen, but I have a lot of issues with how it is done.

I re-watched Star Wars episodes I, II & III and went to the movie to see Rogue One, which I really enjoyed! I think it was quite good (just give me a kickass female character , some good explosions and Darth Vader and I'm happy), better than episode VII actually, which I did not enjoy that much.

I also bought many great books (I'll show them to you in my Book Haul) so I don't know what to read next, I have too many options!! I'm also going on a trip to Switzerland next month and I can't wait (we are going to see Greisinger Museum, which is a museul dedicated to Tolkien, can it be more exciting?!), it means 7 hours in the car so... reading time. I've never been to Switzerland, it seems really pretty!

I hope you all had a great month!

Thanks for reading,

Line.

My Year in Books + 2017 Goals

For those on Goodreads, you probably now what it is. For those who are not, it's basically a recap of the books you read during the year as well as some stats. You can see mine on my Goodreads profile.

I read a total of 90 books!

I started 18 new series.

I completed 8 series (some of them I also started in 2016).

I also have many series in progress that I hope to finish in 2017.

I only read 21 stand alone (I definitely should read more stand alone and stop starting series. But I love series so much).

Some stats

Most read author: Cassandra Clare (7 books)

Favourite new author: Sabaa Tahir (An Ember in the Ashes)

Favourite new series: Phobos by Victor Dixen

I also posted my Top 10 of 2016 if you're interested in that. Do not hesitate to add me on Goodreads, I keep track on my reading challenge more accurately thant here.

2017 Goals

Reading challenge: I want to read at least 60 books. It's not that much, but I feel like I should put less pressure on reading to enjoy it even more!

Read at least 4 classics this year: there are so many great classics that I know I would enjoy and that I feel like I need to read. I have a lot on my Kindle but I also have physical copies. I really want to do that this year.

Resolutions

- Post more reviews: I would love to be able to write a review for each book I read (or each series). I completely failed at that last year and it's such a shame. I really hope I will be able to do that.

- Read books that have been sitting on my shelves (/Kindle) for ages: and that I should really read.

The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold  The Narrow Road to the Deep North - Richard Flanagan  The Silkworm - Robert Galbraith  Pride And Prejudice - Jane Austen

- Finish some series: these are series that are already completed and that I should finish this year before starting new ones (already too late but hey...)

Happily Ever After: Companion to the Selection Series - Kiera Cass  The Unbound - Victoria Schwab Morning Star - Pierce Brown   The Winner's Crime (The Winner's Trilogy) - Marie Rutkoski  The Wicked Will Rise (Dorothy Must Die) - Danielle Paige  A Torch Against the Night - Sabaa Tahir  The Midnight Star - Marie Lu  Crooked Kingdom: A Sequel to Six of Crows - Leigh Bardugo  The Dream Thieves - Maggie Stiefvater

- Start some series: these are series I've been wanting to read for ages!

Outlander - Diana Gabaldon  Mistborn Trilogy Boxed Set - Brandon Sanderson   The Heroes of Olympus Paperback 3-Book Boxed Set - Rick Riordan    Falling Kingdoms - Morgan Rhodes,Michelle Rowen

This is not too ambitious so I really hope I can get to these books in 2017 and I hope I'll enjoy all of them!

Non-reading goals

- I want to watch more movies: there are millions great movies out there and I have not seen a lot of them. People always look at me like "YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS?!" (well, I could say the same to them about great books they haven't read...). I will make a list of movies I want to watch in 2017! They are alsogreat new releases and I should go to the movie more often (still have not seen Rogue One).

- Play video games: Well, I've always liked videogames. I used to play the NES for hours at my grandparent's house and we got a PlayStation when I was around 10, it was the beginning of a long love story ! Now, I just moved in with my boyfriend and we got an amazing room dedicated to playing (full of posters and figurins, I really should show you picutres someday). I got Tomb Raider for Christmas and I'm currently playing Pokemon Moon. Last year I pressured myself too much with reading and I did not take the time to play.. This will change this year !

 ..

I will soon post my Christmas haul as I got many things. I know it's late, but my sister is a stewardess and she was in Santo Domingo for Christmas, so we are celebrating it tonight with my family, and it means presents again :D.

What are your (reading/non-reading) 2017 goals?

.

Thanks for reading,

Line.

BookTube-A-Thon 2015

I have decided to participate in this years BookTube-A-Thon which commences from August 3rd to August 9th.

At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to do this challenge for a number of reasons, the main one being, I'm not in the "BookTube" community. I don't make videos about books I write them. But then I got to thinking, why should I miss out on a reading challenge just because I don't make YouTube videos?

So instead of taking part in Augusts #AYearAThon, I thought I'll give this a go.

In those seven days you are given challenges to complete within the seven days. They are, as well as what I'll be reading:

1. A Book With Blue On The Cover

I picked this book because I've been meaning to reread it again for a long time now

2. A Book By An Author Who Shares The Same First Letter Of Your Last Name

We both share the same first letter of our last name; "F"

Plus her book covers are absolutely beautiful

3. Someone Else's Favourite Book

I've read this before and loved it, and I know a lot of other people do too

4. The Last Book You Required

This is the last book I bought

5. Finish A Book Without Letting Go Of It

I had to find the most shortest book I could find

This will hopefully take me two seconds to read

6. A Book You Really Want To Read

More like I book series I really want to reread again

I'm in love with anything Robin Hobb

7. Read A Total Of Seven Books

Hopefully I will get to finish this book and also round my total of reading seven books
