Dance With The Devil is book one in the Gods of War series by Katherine Garbera. We get a little suspense and romance.

This is my first experience reading Ms. Garbera. I have to say I did like Dance With The Devil, but it felt like it was lacking a little in the suspense and romance department.

I liked Kaylee, Mick, and the covert ops team that Mick runs. Though the characters weren’t overly impressive and all felt a little flat. I didn’t see any depth into them. No background history and very little is talked about their team or the camaraderie. I like to get to know my characters and I didn’t feel like I got that.

As for the romance well they had the lust, but I never felt the romance. Kaylee and Mick are thrown together and act on their attraction and the stress of the situations. They don’t have time to really get to know each other, to get the deep connection, and yet they both see past all the outer stuff and into the heart of one another. I wasn’t buying into their romance. Lust, yes… They had that. Their moments together where oh so steamy and filled with some tension.

As for the plot well I had an idea within the first chapter on who was betraying Kaylee’s team and the covert ops guys; before it was an indication and found out. The story was slow going, though the heat between the couple was their, but things didn’t get exciting until around the last 80% when Kaylee gets herself kidnapped. (Rolls Eyes) She already new that this team member was betraying them, yet she goes off with said person, alone…

Something else that bothered me was in the beginning after Mick and his team pick up Kaylee’s team. Mick clearly didn’t trust Kaylee or her team. He took their electronics away, but something happens and he lets them have it all back, so that they can do their computer thing even though he has a suspicion that someone on the computer geek team is betraying them. (My thought during this scene was the betrayer can make contact and tell the bad guys the plan.) So why do this when he clearly didn’t trust them???

All and all I wasn’t overly impressed. I enjoyed and had a delightful time reading, but I probably won’t be continuing with the series anytime soon. It wasn’t bad. It was just predicable to me and the characters didn’t make an impression.

Finding more books . . . .
The Impostor - Noel B. Gerson

I thought I had inventoried all the books that are stashed in the studio.  Apparently not.

In my never-ending quest to provide covers - even the wrong ones, if necessary -- for all the books on my BookLikes shelves, I got down on my hands and knees in search of The Impostor, which I knew was out there.  Sure enough, there it was on the bottom shelf in the middle of a stack of other mid-century book club editions.  Few of them have dust jackets, so they aren't worth scanning. However, I knew The Impostor not only still had its paper cover but that it was in reasonably good condition.

When I lifted the other books from on top of it, I checked their spines to see if there might be some surprises.

The first two titles were ones I recognized as being duly entered on my spreadsheet.

The third was the surprise.

No dust jacket, but a nice book club edition of Phyllis A. Whitney's Columbella!  I was certain I had inventoried all the Whitneys and none were in the studio.  Alas, this one somehow got skipped.  It has now been added!

Rescuing Rayne (Delta Force Heroes Book 1) - Susan Stoker

Keane AKA "Ghost" is on his way home when he meets the amazing and alluring Rayne.  The night they spend together is epic, to say the least.  Not knowing when or if they will see on another again is frustrating, but in Ghost's job - it really is better that way.

Rayne is totally and completely floored by the way she looks back on her night with Ghost.  He made such an impression on her, she still feels it.  When the worst happens, is him being there a good thing?

Completely impressed with the hot topics found in this book and how they are handled.  You feel the tension rise with each page.  Both in the romance, and in the suspense.  Gripping & compelling, this story will have you wishing you had time to read the whole series right now!  I found the characters charming, and the sexy times really HOT!  I cannot wait to read the next installment in the Delta Force Heroes series.  I give this book a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Special Forces: Operation Alpha: Handling Haven: A Deimos/Trident Security/Delta Team Crossover (Kindle Worlds) - Samantha A. Cole

Lucas AKA “Frisco”  meets Haven at her worst moment.  He cannot get her off his mind for months following.  When he sees her again, and the attraction is till there, he knows he must say something.

Haven has already had a hard life.  Going through an injury that may change her life should have been expected.  When it all hits the fan - can she trust someone she just met to make her feel better about her situation?

The Deimos series starts off with a literal bang!  The characters are interesting, as well as mysterious and definitely worth reading.  I loved these characters and the way they interacted.  The gritty story gets your blood pumping, while the love story soothes the rough edges.  I enjoyed every page!  I give this book a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Surely a blind person is helpless against a ruthless killer?

Hardly. Corrie is about to prove that disabled does not equal defenseless.

Justice for Corrie was a satisfying read. It gives us a women who is blind, but has witnessed a murder.

Color me intrigued just from the blurb and this idea of a blind character. I’ve showcased Ms. Stoker on my blog and each time I tell myself I’m going to try one of her books. For those that know me Contemporary Romance is not my genre of choice, but I do like to give them a try now and then.

Justice for Corrie was one I really wanted to try; because of our heroine, Corrie, who has been blind since birth. I wanted to see how the author portrayed her and her disability. It’s not easy to write about a character with a disability, but I have to say Ms. Stoker did a stunning job with this aspect of the story. This different angle gave me insight into how other people live. You get to see Corrie’s daily life, her insecurities, her frustrations, and what she has done to adapt and become a strong independent women.

Quinn was a likable character. He’s a police officer, he’s alpha, strong, and protective. I enjoyed his relationship with Corrie. I liked how he interacted with her. He was genuinely interested in her and sees her blindness as part of her rather then something negative.

I had a delightful time reading Justice for Corrie. The unique romance, suspense, action and emotions all added up to an enjoyable read.

Note: Can be read as a stand alone. Books in this series do not have to be read in order.
