Seduced by a Steele
Seduced by a Steele (Forged of Steele #12) - Brenda Jackson

I don't know how I've missed the Steele's up to now, but they are certainly firmly on my radar now. The story is mostly just a witty, feel-good romance, and the characters are terrific. I will say that I felt like Sloan's parents were a little over-the-top as well as what happened with them toward the end, but that's just a small part of this story, which is primarily a romance. Mercury's arrogance is just enough to give him that sexy, self-assured aura without tipping over into jerkdom, and he and Sloan have great chemistry. The book is a pretty quick read, which is perfect for a weekender, or curling up to while away a rainy afternoon. I definitely enjoyed it, and now that I've met the Steele's, I want more of them.

Chance and ever after collide to create unforgettable. Sloane and Mercury are like fire to gasoline. Combustible in every way. He's a planner. For Mercury his mind is his greatest asset. She's a doer. Sloane refuses to let anything get in the way of her independence. The choices she makes puts her on a collision course with danger. Seduced by a Steele is a high-octane, unpredictable, steamy, irresistible, adventure of the heart, that you'll want to experience again and again.

There Once Lived a Girl Who Seduced Her Sister's Husband, and He Hanged Himself by Ludmilla Petrushevskaya
There Once Lived a Girl Who Seduced Her Sister's Husband, and He Hanged Himself: Love Stories - Anna Summers,Ludmilla Petrushevskaya

This is a really interesting, distinctive short story collection, focusing on domestic life in late Soviet/post-Soviet Russia; most of the stories take place in and around cramped Moscow apartments. Several generations often live together with too little space and too little money, parents often suspect that their adult children are scheming to take ownership of the precious apartment, and when love appears it's imperfect, marked by the characters' own deficiencies, and can't be relied upon to last.

The stories are very short, ranging from 4-18 pages in length, and with generous font and spacing. And the writing style is pared-down and matter-of-fact. I found the stories interesting and enjoyable though, and they certainly give a strong sense of what life was like for regular people in this particular place and time. This is apparently a compilation of stories the author wrote over several decades, but they're remarkably consistent in tone and quality. My favorite was "Like Penelope," and other stand-outs for me were "Ali-Baba" and "Eros's Way," but it doesn't surprise me a bit to see different readers preferring different stories. The translator also did a fantastic job of rendering the stories in common, sometimes biting English, so that it's hard to believe they were translated at all.

I can see why this collection doesn't work for everyone, given that the stories are relatively brief and often bleak. But I think it is worth a read. If for no other reason than that Petrushevskaya's work was banned in Russia even longer than some well-known political works (apparently for portraying too gritty a picture of everyday life)!

When the battle is done, will the victor have the forever they want, or will this war cost them both everything?

Review 5*

Seduced by a Demon King is the seventeenth book in the Eternal Mates series. I loved it!

King Tegan is someone we have previously met (but only in passing) in one of the earlier books in the series. He is the reluctant king of the Second Realm. This character is such a breath of fresh air to get to know. He is a warrior at heart, but with the death of his older brother over a thousand years previously, he has shouldered the burden of ruling the kingdom. Tegan is determined to break free from the shackles placed on him by his advisors and travels to the mortal world for treasure. Books. He is committed to enriching the lives of his people by bringing modern technology to Hell. What he didn't expect was to meet Suki.

Suki is another fantastic character. She is a succubus, though not a very good one. She has trouble with everything to do with being a succubus. I found Suki to be interesting. She struggles to feed, which means she feels that she's letting down her clan. So, Suki's full of angst at the beginning. However, as the story unfolds, she realises that she's stronger than she initially thought. I like watching a character like her grow into her potential. When she meets Tegan, she plans to seduce him but finds herself charmed by him instead.

I fell in love with this story. Recently, I have had issues with this series lack of momentum concerning the plot not moving forward. However, as I began to read this book, it made me look at the series as a whole. I still love it, and this book is an excellent addition to the series. Tegen and Suki's relationship is fun to watch as it develops through the book. Both characters are likeable and relatable. They both have baggage to deal with from their pasts before they can move forward into the future. There is kick-ass action both on and off the battlefield (one of the author's strengths is descriptive fight scenes).

One thing I love about the Eternal Mates world is the potential it has in bringing new characters and sub-plots into it. I also love the inclusion of characters from previous books and series. It was terrific to meet Payne from the London Vampires Romance Series once more. It made me wonder what the characters from that series are up to. Will the author include them in the potential final showdown with Archangel? I hope so!

Felicity Heaton has written another fast-paced, sexy paranormal romance that I thoroughly enjoyed! I love her fast-paced writing style, which flows effortlessly from scene to scene. She is on top of my favourite author's list.

I do not recommend this book to younger readers due to the extremely HOT and explicit sexual scenes. However, I highly recommend this book (and series) if you love sexy paranormal romances full of vampires, elves, werewolves, cat shifters, succubi, incubi, angels, dragons, demons and demonesses. - Lynn Worton

Fabulous Historical Romance!
The Spy Who Seduced Her (The Brethren Book 1) - Christi Caldwell

The Spy Who Seduced Her is an outstanding historical romance by Christi Caldwell.  Ms. Caldwell has given readers a well-written book populated with phenomenal characters.  Nathaniel worked for the home office and was captured during a mission.  When he returned he found the woman he wanted to marry had married another so he's dedicated himself to the Brethren and climbed to the top of the agency.  Victoria was pregnant and when Nathaniel didn't return she knew he was dead and her father directed her to marry another.  Nathaniel and Victoria's story is packed with drama, humor, action, spice and suspense.  I loved reading this book and look forward to reading more from Christi Caldwell in the future.  The Spy Who Seduced Her is book 1 of The Brethren but can be read as a standalone.  This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
