Murder Game: A gripping serial killer thriller you won't be able to put down (Detective Ruby Preston Crime Thriller Series Book 3) - Caroline Mitchell

Published by: Bookouture (31st October 2017)

ISBN: 9781786811622

Source: NetGalley

Rating: 5*

Synopsis:

A killer is playing a twisted game of life or death with his victims. After he captures them, a countdown begins. He marks the time by sending clues to the whereabouts of the women he has taken in three disturbing images: alive, tortured, dead.

In a race against the clock, East London Detective Ruby Preston must play the killer’s terrifying murder game and decipher the clues before more women die.

But this isn’t the first time the police have seen such a sickening crime. The notorious Lonely Hearts Killer, Mason Gatley, was put behind bars ten years ago for murdering six women in exactly the same chilling way. Desperate for more information, Ruby asks her gangster boyfriend, Nathan Crosby, to set up a dangerous meeting to allow her to see into the twisted mind of a murderer.

But the closer Ruby grows to the dark and charming Mason Gatley, the more worried her team becomes. Is he really helping her catch the killer? Or is he lining her up to be his next victim?

Review:

Wow! Every time I finish one of Caroline Mitchell's books I'm aware that I've spent the most part on the edge of my seat, mouth hanging open in shock and my heart hammering away! This was a real page turner with such a captivating plot. You can't help but like the fantastic Ruby Preston, who I absolutely ADORE. She's intelligently written and utterly captivating. I really like how her relationships with Nathan and daughter Cathy are interwoven with the case. It gives such a personal perspective in contrast to the professional side of Ruby and makes for a superbly well rounded character.

The case is shocking yet fascinating, like the scene of a car crash. The author is an expert at those twists and turns we just don't see coming...and there are plenty here. The story is intricate, dark and gripping, with great attention to detail. I was more than a little annoyed when life interrupted my reading time (much too often!) and I'm now eagerly awaiting my next fix of Detective Ruby Preston! Thanks to Bookouture for providing an ARC via NetGalley in return for my honest review.

Never Die Alone by Lisa Jackson
Never Die Alone (A Bentz/Montoya Novel) - Lisa Jackson

I received a free kindle copy of Never Die Alone (A Bentz/Montoya Novel Book 8) by Lisa Jackson published by Kensington Books from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

I gave this intense murder mystery about a serial killer targeting twins five stars.  This suspense thriller was an all night read & my fingers flew across my kindle pad.

Zoe & Chloe Denning were kidnapped on the night before their twenty first birthday. Chloe told Zoe: "'You should try it sometime,' she told her minutes older sibling. 'A little prayer can solve a big problem'.''

"Zoe only hoped that Chloe was praying now, that her presumed connection to the Lord God Almighty would garner them some quick salvation because, as her mind cleared, Zoe realized the situation was more dire than she'd wanted to believe." They were in a desperate life-threatening situation.

Can they be found before the psycho serial killer finishes his deadly ritual?

I could not leave an Amazon review because it's still pre-order status.

quote 2015-04-29 18:32
A legal secretary is not necessarily a secretary who abides by the law, but a secretary who works specifically for an attorney, paralegal, or judge. The qualifications are specialized: one must be capable of performing ordinary secretarial tasks while tolerating whatever brand of mental illness the attorney, paralegal, or judge is suffering. Secretaries who work in the non-legal field may argue with me that mental illness is not exclusive to the legal field. However, like eating disorders and ballet dancing, mental illness and law are a matched pair.
My Boss Is A Serial Killer: A Tale Of Murder, Romance, And Filing - Christina Harlin

This is the first paragraph of the second chapter.

FML....I am only on page 35 of 654 and there are two others in the series sitting on my TBR.

Also this legal secretary totally whiffed on warrants and other very legal documents that the cute detective shoved in her face while she was flaunting her availability and her flirting skills.

If misery loves company, you all are in for quite a night if this book keeps going the way it is.

The Female Homicide Offender: Serial Murder and the Case of Aileen Wuornos
The Female Homicide Offender: Serial Murder and the Case of Aileen Wuornos - Stacey L. Shipley,Bruce A. Arrigo Now and then the cops try to fight prostitution by embarrassing the customers. That is, they arrest the customers and publicize them in the hope that it will discourage others from becoming customers. That doesn't seem to work very well. Men just keep right on paying for sex anyway. Maybe a better way to discourage the customers would be to promote this book. Just maybe a potential customer of prostitution might think twice about hiring a hooker if he knew that she could very well be a serial killer.
