ARC REVIEW Don't Breathe A Word by Christie Craig

Don't Breathe a WordTexas Justice #2, The Cold Case Unit of Anniston PD has a new case when they look into a young stripper's disappearance, the murder of her boyfriend, and the connection they had to the gang leader/drug dealer who killed Juan Acosta's wife and unborn baby. Juan already killed him in the line of duty but the large scar on his face serves as a daily reminder that he failed his family. Finding the person responsible for this cold case and maybe even finding the stripper alive will help, or so he hopes. But then there is his new neighbor and her daughter something just doesn't feel right he knows they are running from something but he doesn't know what and he's determined to find out.

Vikki Holloway gained guardianship of her niece, Bell, after her sister died in a hit and run. Vikki always suspected her sister's abusive husband as the culprit but never had proof and it seemed pointless to prove it after he died but then Vikki swore she saw him leave her apartment after ransacking it and then he called her threatening her. Scared for her niece she ran and with the help of AWCO they got new identities. After almost being found in Arizona they moved to Texas where she became Nikki Hanson and Bell became her daughter.

Juan felt intrigued by Nikki and her daughter and oddly protective of them too. He knew they were hiding something but the more he got to know them the more he felt inclined to help them, not even the truth scared him off it just made all the more determined to keep them safe. All the while Juan and his team mates are working his cold case which has suddenly become hot again with the only witness disappearing only to reappear and get shot at and put into a coma. Vikki is hesitant to accept any help from anyone but Juan isn't easily put off, the sexual attraction is one thing but Vikki starts to actually trust Juan.

Overall, I loved this book. It was an exciting read with great characters, Bell is adorable. I loved the descriptive foreplay and then leaving the sex up to the reader's imagination it was just enough to satisfy me. It is a nicely balanced romantic suspense and it can be read as a standalone. I look forward to Connor's book next.

Engrossing contemporary romance
Justice for Laine (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Book 4) - Susan Stoker

The heat between Laine and Wes sparks from the start. Wes is such a straightforward person and does not hold back on what he wants. Laine decides to see where their relationship goes without hesitation. Laine makes a mistake and ends up in a dire situation. With the help of a stray dog, Wes and Laine get a chance to admit what is in their hearts. These two have been around long enough to know what they want in life and in a partner, and I did not want to stop listening to their story.

I received an audio copy of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.

Justice for Corrie (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Book 3)
Justice for Corrie (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Book 3) - Susan Stoker I received this book for an honest review.
Even though I'm a follower of this author it's the first book that I've had the time to read. I need to go back and start this series from the beginning now. I absolutely loved it, for a minute there I thought she was an Aussie like me as the story read like a group of my friends talking. (didn't need to look up an American phrase once) With saying that the story read fast paced and flawlessly, the characters were engaging and real. Such an interesting concept having the female character blind and showing such strength of character and the alpha male so into her and strong yet sensitive to her needs. I LOVED that he learned Braille and entered her world in other ways too. This is a must read book, I laughed and cried toward the end. Kidnapping, murder, suspense, drama and love...what a ride.

Amazing read
Justice for Mickie (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes) (Volume 2) - Susan Stoker

So having read book 1 in this series, I started this book with the knowledge that Susan was going to send me on something emotional, painful... all those good things that usually draw you in when reading. Boy did I get what I expected & more! I was instantly drawn into this book, from start to finish I was lost, I couldn't escape, I needed to know what was going to happen & how.

Cruz is undercover, he has a plan set in motion, but the plan never involved meeting the women of his dreams... especially when he's surrounded by one of the worst MC's known in the city. Mickie is just trying to look out for her younger sister, trying to keep her safe, but when her sister is dating a MC president, all her radars go beserk. Mickie's only joy during this time happens when she's around Cruz....

I loved how Cruz & Mickie start out slowly, communicating via text, then the odd lunch date... soon becoming friends during Cruz's time undercover. I loved how the characters were in their 30's, they have histories that are sometimes unthinkable, but they are moving forward. We also get to catch up with the characters from book 1 (Justice for Mackenzie), I love when authors do this. I LOVED everything!

'Justice for Mickie" is the second book in Susan's AMAZING new series "Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes", I'm blown away with what I read & can not wait to see what comes next for the series.

An INTENSE start to the series
Justice for Mackenzie (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes) (Volume 1) - Susan Stoker

Oh My Goodness! What an emotional rollercoaster this book was... & I LOVED IT!! It was funny, heart warming, sexy, suspenseful & heart wrenching, I was sucked into this book from the first chapter. The characters where strong, giving you a picture into their lives, without losing the intensity of the story & this story is intense.

Mackenzie or Mack for short is hilarious, when she gets nervous she babbles on about anything & everything, she's also clumsy & has a bossy streak too. While Daxton is a HOT Texas Ranger, working on a very difficult case, when he attends a Charity night, he first meets Mack he notices how pretty she is.

I loved the romance between Mack & Daxton, it was real, non of this jumping into bed together on the first night, also they were alot older than what the characters I normally read are. But I loved it all the same. There was this particular scene that made me ugly cry, seriously it wasn't a pretty site, but the scene was touching & scary & so very real, I lost it.

'Justice for Mackenzie' is the first book in Susan's AMAZING new series "Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes", I'm blown away with what I read & can not wait to see what comes next for the series.
