Our dashing heroes meet up with the Collector again
The Adventures of Basil and Moebius Volume 4: The Fate of All Fools - Ryan Schifrin,Richard Lee Byers

In this fourth volume of the adventures of Basil & Moebius, two adventurers, they find themselves involved along with their Mossad partner in the Collector's world. All sorts of supernatural creatures appear which our heroes have to confront, usually with violence, as they try to find their way home.

Colourful and well-illustrated, this works quite well and there looks as if there'll be more volumes to come.

The Adventures of Basil and Moebius Volume 3: Secret of the Ancients
The Adventures of Basil and Moebius Volume 3: Secret of the Ancients - Fritz Casas,Ryan Schifrin,Larry Hama,Robert C. Atkins,Glenn Fabry

Alaric Moebius and Basil is back in this the third volume of adventures. They are still bound to find artifacts to the mysterious "Collector" but are looking for a way to get out of their servitude. Now it seems like they finally will get their wish as a they are learning the origin of "the Collector", through 13 old stone discs that tell the history of the Ancients, a mythological race of godlike creatures that once was worshiped on earth.

It was quite nice to once again to be reacquainted with Alaric Moebius and Basil. But, even though I enjoy reading these kinds of adventures graphic novel do I prefer a more serious note. The banter between Moebius and Basil and the humorous tone with women they meet etc. just doesn't always appeal to me. It can be too much. I found I grew a bit impatient with the story.

Still, it nice to read something action-filled once in a while. And, I did enjoy learning more about the Collector. And, I loved that we get to met Basil's mother. Even though I didn't always like the humor did I enjoy the humorous part with her. I will say that the last 1/3 of the book was my favorite part with Moebius and Basil realizing that they may have done a big mistake. And, despite the ending have I a feeling that they are not really off the hook yet!

The art is ok, I can't say I love it. It's nothing that really takes my breath away when I read it. But, I don't dislike it, it suits this kind of story.

I want to thank the publisher that provided me with a free copy through NetGalley for an honest review.

The Adventures of Basil and Moebius Volume 2 by Ryan Schifrin
The Adventures of Basil and Moebius Volume 2: The Shadow Gambit - Ryan Schifrin,Larry Hama,Robert C. Atkins

The Collector commands Moebius and Fox to find a mysterious weapon that was smuggled out of Germany after WWII and then disappeared.

It's good to once again read a Moebius and Fox adventure, but I wasn't so taken in by the story even though it was a nice change to read a graphic novel instead of a book. It was a lot of action and around the world hunt and the art was good and the ending promised an interesting continuation. But I felt that it lacked something extra to make it really, really good. Perhaps the whole evil nazi thing is getting a bit old to read about. Feels a bit been there done that. Perhaps some more unusual enemies in the future...

I received this copy from the publisher through NetGalley in return for an honest review! Thank you!

The Adventures of Basil and Moebius
The Adventures of Basil and Moebius - Lizzy John,Ryan Schifrin,Adam Archer,Robert Atkins,Larry Hama

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Basil Fox is an ex SAS soldier relegated to the Queen's Guard after a botched mission, Alaric Moebius is a playboy thief who has been dating Basil's girlfriend Cathy whilst he was away on his last mission. When Basil arrives at his girlfriends apartment to find her being kidnapped by 'Spring heeled Jack', he meets Moebius and together they try to find her before she ends up like Jacks other victims.

From there they form an uneasy partnership and Basil agrees to assist Moebius with his work as they embark on 3 adventures which sees them coming into contact with 'The Collector' who employs them to find rare artefacts for him.

This is a highly enjoyable set of adventure stories that use a fair bit of humour with most of the fun being had with the quips going back and forth between Basil and Moebius. Their relationship is one that strengthens with each story, each one thinking that they are the glue holding the operation together but both relying on each other when the going gets tough. I liked both of the characters, they were engaging and very well portrayed as lovable rogues.

The art was quite inconsistent, each story seemed to have completely different styles, this made it harder to connect visually with the work as characters features changed so much with each story. The stories more than make up for it but consistency would have elevated this to a higher rating.

Stories included are: The Curse of Spring-Heel Jack, Bloodstone and The Devil's Handshake.

Recommended.

The Adventures of Basil and Moebius
The Adventures of Basil and Moebius - Lizzy John,Ryan Schifrin,Adam Archer,Robert Atkins,Larry Hama

A graphic novel that contains the first three adventures of Alaric Moebius and Basil Fox, two loveable thieving scoundrels.

This graphic novel was both adventurous and funny, a combination I like very much. The only drawback with this graphic novel was I just didn’t fancy the art that much, but it wasn’t terrible, I just got a so-so feeling about it. But the stories in this volume was really good and I’m looking forward to reading more about Moebius and Basil!

I wonder if the movie is any good...:P

4 stars
