Review: Pestilence (The Four Horsemen #1) by Laura Thalassa
Pestilence - Laura Thalassa

They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.

Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her … and hers towards him.

And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she'll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

2 ½ -3   ★

I had a hate-love relationship with this book. Well maybe not that drastic but close lol.

I really liked the idea of the book and it had me really intrigued, I liked the sassy snarky character and it was really easy to follow.

What I didn’t like was the insta lust/ love, not really love in the beginning but the lust was there for sure. That was not even the part that bothered me it was more the timing of said lust really was distracting at times. For an example:

He shot her in the back TWICE with arrows, just yanked out the arrows tied her back to the horse and dragged her through the snow for hours so hard that her arms came out of her sockets after she finally passes out from the pain hours later and wakes up and cant care for herself because of all the injuries and he needs to carry her to the toilet, all she can think about is how hard his chest it and how close his lips are to her.

There were a few more situations like that.  Also some others were a bit awkward to read like he being an almighty higher being that is pretty much older than dirt and then he sits there and stares at her like a teenage boy seeing boobies for the first time and then starts awkwardly “suckling” on her nipple. SO yeah not sure if that was all supposed to be a bit funny but it really kind of felt awkward to read.

But then again it had a lot of funny moments in it, but also some dark and thought provoking moments that I really enjoyed.

Overall I ended it up liking it more than I thought I would but not loving it by far and some parts where just way of chart and overplayed.

This all might just me and I’m sure plenty of people can overlook some of the awkward stuff and will love it.

I rate it 2 ½ -3   ★

Death: The Horsemen Series
Death: The Horsemen Series - Lila Rose,Justine Littleton,Hot Tree Editing Crystal's 5 Star Review
Holy Cow, what an awesome book!! I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy for review and I couldn’t put it down. This is the first book in the series, and it really hooks you and makes you wish you could binge read the entire series.
We meet the Five Horseman, yes, you read that right! Dean (Death), Warren (War), Connor (Chaos), Falcone (Famine), and Kayne (Decay).
Kayne has been locked up for ages. He’s a victim of his own powers and completely unstable. But now, he’s been released and is causing strife wherever he goes. It’s up to the four siblings to get Kayne entombed again before he causes more damage. Julie meets Kayne on a train and for some reason she’s immune to his ability (you find out later on why). When the brother show up at her hospital room, they decide that she needs to be protected at all costs, and the decision is made to move her into their apartment.
Protecting Julie has become Dean’s number one mission and he goes to great lengths to make sure that she is safe and secure. When that fails, he moves heaven and hell to get her back. This book is fast paced, full of action, and one heck of a steamy romance. I couldn’t put the book down and am impatiently waiting for the next one. The writing is absolutely amazing and the characters are wonderfully thought out and complex. Definitely worth a read!!
