The Walking Dead - This Sorrowful Life [Review]
The Walking Dead, Vol. 6: This Sorrowful Life - Cliff Rathburn,Charlie Adlard,Robert Kirkman

Whoa, the last couple of these took a really dark turn. There is some awful stuff that goes on in the previous graphic novel and in this one there is some pretty graphic revenge for the wrongs done in The Best Defense. I can't say that I blame said character for needing revenge though.

I definitely think the graphic novels have done a way better job handling Woodbury. The TV show wanted to drag it out by cultivating a relationship between Andrea and the Governor and honestly, it was just gross to watch. I'm not sure how the show decides on pacing since everything moves so fast in the graphic novels, but they've definitely made some questionable decisions on what to focus on.

Overall, I'm pretty addicted to the comic series now. I've already put the second compendium on hold at the library and I haven't even finished this one yet.

Star Rating Art:  4 Stars

Star Rating Story: 4.5 Stars

Overall: 4.5 Stars

Self purchase for kindle.

The problem with reading these fairly far apart is that you can’t remember what the heck is happening.  I’m honestly pretty confused as to what is going on in this series now.  I know sometimes I can be a little slow, but some recaps would really be nice.  Also, there are so many freaking people I can’t keep them all straight in my mind.

SPOILERS

Later on, after Rick and company escape the crazy people the volume gets better and less confusing. I confess my confusion is probably because I space the volumes out so much because there are a lot of graphic novel series I’m reading. Anyway, again, I’m really happy this comic is in black and white. If it were in color, I’d get sick from all the gory scenes.  Especially when Machone (sp?) goes after her rapist.  Ack! Glen proposes to Maggie. Read it to find out what happens. Of course Rick kills someone. Is there a volume where he doesn’t?    Also when is Rick’s wife (can’t remember her name damn it) going to have the baby! Can’t wait to read the next one which I’ve already purchased.  Love this series.

Warnings:  This could be triggering for some rape victims. However a victim in the comic gets her revenge and it is sweet.

The Walking Dead, Vol. 6: This Sorrowful Life
The Walking Dead, Vol. 6: This Sorrowful Life - Cliff Rathburn,Charlie Adlard,Robert Kirkman

So I read this right before I took a bunch of cold medicine on Saturday and as a consequence of that and also still being on a bunch of cold medicine right now, this one is kind of a blur. All I remember is ESCAPE and TORTURE and then some more MEGA TORTURE. Seriously, this was brutal, and I'm not entirely sure I'm comfortable with it?

Glen, Rick (now sans arm), and Michonne manage to escape from Woodbury with some other people (three I think? I don't remember). One of them turns out to be a traitor sort of (his motives are noble, but Rick's not taking chances). He wants to bring his people back to the prison to take advantage of all the resources, and somehow he thinks he can do so without bringing the Governor along as well. I'm 99% positive the Governor is still alive, even though I do remember Michonne doing some nasty and permanent damage to him. Anyways, Rick kills the tratior before he gets the chance to get the message to his people, even though by most standards he was a pretty good guy. The distance between Old Rick and New Rick grows more vast by the hour.

In other news, the prison is overrun by zombies and they have to spend a lot time and bloodshed cleaning it up again after the idiots get distracted by Tyreese and don't get the gates closed in time. Also, Carol is losing her mind? Am I making it up that she seriously asked Lori if she and Rick would do a joint marriage thing with her? And then got all butt hurt when they were like, what?

The Walking Dead, Vol. 6: This Sorrowful Life
The Walking Dead, Vol. 6: This Sorrowful Life - Cliff Rathburn,Charlie Adlard,Robert Kirkman Gratuitous violence and torture porn.

It gets an extra star because the Governor arc may be wrapped up (at least the little trip to his settlement is), and because of Michonne. That's about it. This book was 90% torture and violence porn. I get it, zombies, rough life. Don't need the torture porn at all.
