UNCOMMON TYPE: SOME STORIES by Tom Hanks
Uncommon Type: Some Stories - Tom Hanks

A series of short stories with a common thread running through them.  Watch some of them carefully or you will miss the thread.  I enjoyed all the stories but my favorites were the three that had Anna, MDash, Steven Wong, and the narrator in them.  I liked these characters and their friendship.  My other favorites where with Hank Fiset.  He is a reporter who takes on a variety of topics, such as coffee shops, places from his past, New York, and the press room.  I liked his style.  Tom Hanks is a clever writer.  I will read him again, especially if it has the narrator and company in it.

Typewriters, Bombs, Jellyfish: Essays
Typewriters, Bombs, Jellyfish: Essays - ... Typewriters, Bombs, Jellyfish: Essays - Tom McCarthy It was my hope that a book of essays covering writers the likes of Laurence Sterne, Franz Kafka, James Joyce, and Kathy Acker, as well as McCarthy's thoughts on Patty Hearst, David Lynch, and Sonic Youth would interest me to no end. But I was wrong. Rarely did I felt engaged, and all through the text a numbing affect came over me which I attributed to my own lack of intellectual prowess. If this collection was a work of genius, it was lost on me and can be added to my list of bad choices for 2017.

Messed around with my literature professor's typewriter today. This is one of my poems. Obviously, I am not experienced at typing on such a machine (yet)-- but I fell in love with it instantly, and I now know what I want for my birthday!

(Also, that is supposed to a comma after "fingers", not a period.)

The infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare. ~Wikipedia

Yeah, sure, but could the universe survive an equally infinite amount of flying fecal matter? Think of the infinite dry cleaning bills!

Goats Infinite Typewriters - Jonathan Rosenberg

Goats is an online comic series featuring a set of oddball characters who talk about their evil plans to take over the universe and destroy their rivals but not much ever comes of it. The tone is like one of those late night undergrad conversations where everyone tries to sound smart and edgy while at the same time having no life experience whatsoever.

I wanted to like Goats because I enjoy the author's other web comic series Scenes From a Multiverse. Scenes consists of standalone or loosely linked comics that focus on satire and topical humor. Goats is an ongoing narrative that meanders around and goes nowhere. I often find Scenes funny but Goats not so much.
