Got this in time for my long weekend
Ichi-F: A Worker's Graphic Memoir of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant - Kazuto Tatsuta

I have a three-day weekend, starting Friday, and so far my plans include:

  • The Mystic Marriage by Heather Rose Jones - Daughter of Mystery made me wish I'd started it at the beginning of a long weekend, so I'm going to try to do The Mystic Marriage right.
  • Ichi-F: A Worker's Graphic Memoir of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant by Kazuto Tatsuta - I wasn't expecting our Acquisitions Librarian to purchase this one so soon, but now it's in my hand. Yay! We'll see how this goes. I haven't read much nonfiction manga, but what little I've tried I generally haven't managed to finish. This one's a brick - it was originally released in Japan in three volumes.
  • Digging into my huge backlog of games on Steam - I want to play more Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble, and I think I might have some Higurashi: When They Cry.

#Thankfully Reading Weekend
Busted: Life Inside the Great Mortgage Meltdown - Edmund L. Andrews
Give Us the Ballot: The Modern Struggle for Voting Rights in America - Ari Berman
DC Comics: Bombshells Vol. 1: Enlisted - Marguerite Bennett
DC Comics: Bombshells Vol. 2: Allies - Marguerite Bennett,Marguerite Sauvage

A blogger friend from Twitter  is holding a Thankfully Reading Weekend event on her blog (http://www.jennsbookshelves.com/) and this post is my sign up/kick off post.

First, to all my fellow Americans, Happy Thanksgiving; however you choose to celebrate the holiday weekend, I hope you are all healthy and happy. My husband and I are going to see Alter Bridge, our favorite modern rock band, at the O2 arena tomorrow night (kids are having a sleep over at my friend's house). Since we won't have the kids with us, we agreed to try the Brazilian BBQ place in the O2 food court - definitely not traditional Turkey Day food, but I love to try new cuisines.

The rest of the weekend will be spent with the family hanging out at home. I picked up Homeland Season One at the library yesterday, so I have a little tv watching to break up the reading time. I don't do Black Friday. AT. ALL.

To all my non-American friends, I hope you have a good weekend and enjoy some holiday shopping/experiences.

My TBR pile for the read-a-thon is all the library books I borrowed last week, along with new additions DC Bombshells Vol 1 and 2 (came in the mail this week) and Give Us the Ballot by Ari Berman (came through ILL, so thanks Aviano AB, Italy). I started Busted this morning and am at the 50% mark. Yeah, the review on this book is not going to be pretty.

I will try to post (if BookLikes is working) my progress throughout the event.

Halloween Bingo Reading Week 4
The Witch of Blackbird Pond - Elizabeth George Speare
Parasite - Mira Grant
Jamaica Inn - Daphne du Maurier

Three bingos in less than a month! Hopefully I can keep the momentum going through October. And I renewed Dracula; I have a whooping 20 pages read so far. In addition to all this reading, I picked up season five of OUAT to binge watch this weekend and on Sunday I am co-hosting a baby shower for a friend.

This is what I have on tap for the last week of September:

1. The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare (New England square)

2. Parasite by Mira Grant (Creepy Crawlies)

3. Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier (Gothic square and buddy read for BL's Gothic book club)

National Readathon Day (US)

Another weekend, another readathon. National Readathon day is a joint venture of Penguin Random House and the American Library Association. Tomorrow is the day, but I did not know this until late this afternoon when I checked into Twitter. I hope to participate a little online and in reading, but I have plans to treat my friend (fellow military spouse) with her first proper English afternoon tea as a going away present. We might get to do some book shopping while we are out (without the kids).

My three books I would like to get to:

1. Bargaining with a Rake (Whisper of a Scandal #1) by Julie Johnstone - book in the regency box set

2. Scamp's Lady by Jackie Walton - colonial era historical romance

3. Finish or DNF Magic in His Kiss by Shari Anton - so far I am not feeling it but it is only 227 pages so I will hopefully learn to like it enough to finish. It is most decidedly medieval in language and tone. No wallpaper historical here.

Have a happy weekend and happy reading.

Holiday Weekend

My hubby works the midnight shift. So when he came home this morning, he plopped down on the couch and slept for a few hours without bothering to take off uniform. When he awoke, he went upstairs to change and that is when the stomach bug hit him full force.

Several hours after hubby started with the stomach bug, my little guy starts projectile vomiting everywhere. Little guy was on the living room floor shaking so bad from dehydration and coldness that I decided to take him to the ER on base. Two and half hours later he is feeling better but still dehydrated and is sleeping. Hubby is sort of getting the upper hand now on his stomach bug.

Needless to say, the start of Thanksgiving 2015 is not going all that smoothly. We moved our small feast to Saturday to give everyone a chance to recover. In the meantime, I am playing nurse to hubby and baby boy and EDITED: little girl had it earlier this week. She is the one to kick things off.

I am hunkering down with my books until my Westfield Mall trip. Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Americans and may your holiday weekend be safe, healthy, and happy.
