Wondering Sight (The Extraordinaries Book 2) - Melissa McShane

Sophia is an Extraordinary - one of the few people who have strong magical abilities. She is a Seer and cam put herself into dreams which show her future events. She also gets visions where she can see the past and future. Sophia is a widow who has been working for the War Office but then her Seer power caused her to expose a powerful man- Lord Endicott. He managed to escape but also cause doubt on Sophia’s talent   and she was let go of at the War Office but the reason was kept quiet. Somehow word got out that Sophia was unreliable. So Sophia went back to England  and is staying with her best friend Cecy and her husband. Lord Endicott followed Sophia back to England and is either harassing Sophia or  engaging in a different criminal enterprise. Endicott enjoys taunting Sophia at social gatherings. All Sophia wants is revenge. Sophia cares deeply for her family and friends and her principles. Sophia goes in dream after dream to find something to prove Endicott is a criminal. Cecy and her new friend daphne worry about Sophia. Then Mr. Rutledge wants to hire Sophia for Seer work and seems to be there when she needs help. Daphne is a Bounder who can teleport from one place to another as long as she knows the place Lady Daphne is always ready for a challenge.  Endicott is now involved with forging money. Sophia collapses because of her frequent going into dreams. Sophia definitely has a tendency toward pride and obsession. Sophia has to decide how far she will go to get her revenge against Lord Endicott.

I didn’t really care for this story. I couldn’t seem to really get into it. I sometimes got frustrated with the story. I didn’t like how Sophia treats her best friend cecy. I also didn’t particularly like all the action being in Sophia’s  mind. Just not the same. The romance really wasn’t until towards the end of the book and it seemed rushed.

Wondering Sight
Wondering Sight (The Extraordinaries Book 2) - Melissa McShane

Last year I read Burning Bright, the first in a new fantasy series, and to say I was excitedly awaiting the second novel, Wondering Sight, would not do it justice.

I was initially disappointed that the characters from the first book didn't show up here, and also the story has moved away from catching pirates in the Caribbean to life in Britain. Sophia has another gift completely, as she as an Extraordinary Seer, can see Dreams and Visions that teach her about past and future. When she, at the start of the novel sets out to get her revenge of the man who disgraced her, it quickly turns into obsession which will not only put herself but her friends as well in danger.

I didn't like it as much as the first book. I just couldn't really get into it, and I felt the rules of the Sight were too easily bended for Sophia's convenience. Plus, I guess I missed the ships and the pirates, since a lot of the book is filled with society gatherings and parties. I guess the focus will change to another Gift in the next book, so I hope it will be something more for me...

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Boundless Grace
Brave Irene (Sunburst Books) - William Steig

This is a really cute book that my CT has read to her class. The book takes place in a fairytale land. Where Irene's mother is a dress maker, who is to sick to get the dress for the Duchess to her during the snow storm. So Irene being the brave little girl that she is takes the dress to the duchess. It is a cute book that we used to wonder and question. This is a really good book to instill the basic thinking that a person needs to do while reading a book. We also used it to infer about certain characters.

Just A Thought

I wonder what qualifications are needed to be a reviewer?  As opposed to a reader with opinions?

Happy Belated 2015 New Year EVERYONE!!!

...although it's already February. *coughs sheepishly*

Hopefully everyone's doing well. I've been sooooo busy, it's not even funny. Besides trying to find a job (that wasn't a Christmas gig because I was away at Christmas at Disney World and Universal Studios Harry Potter World). I've been mainly doing errands and a bunch of things for people around the house and helping with various chores and whatnot. I won't bore you with the details because it was draining--both mentally and physically, hell even emotionally. As you might have guessed, I did not nab a job although I was close multiple times. I just keep getting the short end of the stick and bad luck mainly. But I haven't given up yet, I will get something at some point! And it will have been worth the struggle...I hope? o-o;

Also November I finally participated in NaNoWriMo and yes, I did complete 50K of words (actually 52K but that's besides the point). Although I'm not done with it, I'm still trying to finish it. Unfortunately my brain's been on vacation along with all the pressure and stress I've been getting concerning job-wise among other personal issues (very emotionally draining kind, I'm sure you understand).

BUT I am starting to write again despite everything. Sure, it may be my crappiest but at least I'm writing and making some progress even if it's only a few sentences here and there plus ramblings, lots and lots of ramblings. But I digress, I feel like Anna (from Frozen) right her every time I write because I am persevering regardless of everything, and hopefully it's only going to improve and get better.

On the other note, I'll be taking a Librarian Tech course(s) soon as I figure out what college is best for me, whether in person or online is the best course of action. I'm leaning towards online so I can have a job and do everything at my own pace (to a degree). Not sure where I'm squeezing in reading and writing, etc into it but I'll manage somehow I'm sure.

Also 2015, gosh, it really had quite a few surprises, a shock among other things, but I've survived them thankfully. One major one was mainly a misunderstanding and my being so busy over the course of 2 months. And others, let's just say I'd love to shove them aside and go "NOPE" but I can't...as well as other matters...

BUT any ways, moving on!

Yes, it's February 2015, but I'd figured it was time to update this with what I've been doing and will be doing over the course of the year. I do have some goals I want to reach and achieve by the year's end, but it's only the beginning still. Lots of things can change at a moment's notice--both good and bad. I'm looking forward to a lot of new things to happen this year, it's a good feeling staying positive and whatnot.

Hopefully my next update is soon, not late like this one was, just NOPE.
