It's all good. Reading expands our horizons so much.
What else are you working on?

Is the first story in the Fire and Rain series good? I was looking at them, but haven't read anything by Daisy Harris.

Are you into falconry? I had a classmate with a red tailed hawk. She brought it in for a beak and talon trim. He was beautiful.

I used to volunteer at Oregon Zoo's birds of prey show in the 90s, I wanted to be a falconer too but never got around to it. We had a pretty big variety of birds, but the Harrises were some of my favorites. The turkey vulture was pretty cool too, they have a ton of personality!

I'm a veterinarian. While we were in fourth year, she brought it into the large animal clinic while we were on the ambulatory rotation. There he was on the back of a chair in the equine rotations room. Not something you ever think you are going to see.
I tried to read Captive Prince and got about a quarter of the way in. But Laurent is so hateful that I couldn't read any further. Damen was okay, but there was nothing redeeming about either countries' cultures to make me care who ruled them, and the other MC had no problem ordering someone raped for his amusement. So I'm not going to spend any more time on this book.

Yes, Captive Prince is a bit harsh. Laurent is not someone I would care to hang out with. That does slowly improve over time and some justification for his actions trickles into the story.
But if you have to wade through a story, it is just no fun.
I'm actually waiting for the final volume to be available.
I love complex characterizations. There is no easy answer for Laurent's behavior. He is everything I couldn't ever associate with, but in fiction, it gives some insight those people. What makes them act this ways. He has reasons which some of it comes through in Volume 2. And no there is never a justification for cruelty or hatefulness, but it is the universe that is given to us. I can't wait for Volume 3.
Reading Pressure Head by J.L. Merrow, I really like it!

I enjoy her stories as well.
I just finished reading Fall by Alex Draven, a short story about a pair of centaurs (don't worry, no centaur sex). Overall I enjoyed it, although it was too short in my opinion and could have used better editing so I dinged it one an a half stars on technical grounds. You can read the review at my blog http://gloriacarr16.booklikes.com/post/650568/fall-by-alex-draven and the story itself is free on Smashwords.
Finished Pressure Head and I really thought it was good. I liked the Britishisms since I am a Yank ;) a different flavor for me. I'm onto the new PsyCop, #7 I believe, Spook Squad.

Emotional trauma at the hands of a book?
Just finished up Widdershins and The Magpie Lord. Both of them are historical romance/mystery types and I've added the sequels to both to my TBR lists. I liked TML a tiny bit better but I think it's bc I liked Lord Crane quite a bit *ahem*.
Just got The Magpie Lord. I guess I'll move it up the TBR pile.
Need help?
