I guess I have a clarification post then - is the Diverse Reads square meant as horror or not? If not i know exactly what book I'm reading for it (Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin, but I really need to).

It's not just diverse authors/reads, though, it's diverse authors can be spooky fun. I'd assume there would have to be a spooky factor, although my interpretation is spooky could be something that spooks the characters, not necessarily pure horror.

Of course, that's only one way to interpret. It's also a moot point for me: I've go my list, they're all horror related.

That being said, I love trying to poke at the squares and figure out what will fit. I figure throwing out more interpretations could help others, and if I'm so far off it doesn't fit the spirit, the creators will come here, and tell me/us so.

Glad to help!

Yeah, that was pretty much my interpretation. The listing of ideas for it didnt' all strike me as spooky which is why I asked. Which also may mean I need to investigate some of those authors more.

The vampire and werewolf with the Watch was actually pretty recent. I forget which book it was, exactly.

Okay. Thanks! Murder of Crows it is, for Vampire vs Werewolves, then!
Heh, I'm going to be getting a few squares catching up on my Molly Harper reads. :D
Can't wait to do this!
Ok ,ok, I have a question: What do you mean by "Diverse Authors Can be Spooky Fun"?

We're trying to encourage people to read diverse authors - POC and/or LGBTQ authors. We'll be doing a joint post on this square, but authors like Toni Morrison, Octavia Butler, Marie Lu, Isabelle Allende, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Colson Whitehead, etc. Anything that fits under another square and is by a diverse author is fair game - so, mystery, horror, magical realism, witches/vampires/ghosts, etc.

Does that help?

Oh, I see. Yes, that helps. Thanks.

If you're looking for some other PoC suggestions:
-Daniel Jose Older (Half Resurrection Blues, Bone Street Rumba)
-Victor LaVelle (Ballad of Black Tom)
-Gabriel Squailia (Dead Boys)

If you want something a bit different, Cthulhurotica has a whole bunch of PoC and QUILTBAG authors (also, it's not nearly as erotic or pornographic as one might think from the name).

Thank you! I actually have Half Resurrection Blues on my TBR. I've heard really good things about it.

Thanks. Great suggestions. Looking at my current selection for bingo potentials, I think I will have plenty of contenders for this square. I just couldn't figure out what the square was about.
Daniel Jose Older sounds like a great option to investigate just for fun at any time. :)
