This book was released late in 2013 and after all this time, I don't know if there's anything left to said that hasn't yet been said.

The world building isn't very developed, besides the whole sci-fi/distant future vibe to it, but honestly I couldn't care less about it.

 Why?

Because of the two main characters: They are absolutely well developed!

 As for the main plot of this book, the trope isn't new: two very different people who find themselves having to rely in one another, but it was done exquisitely so. Especially the second part of it.

The biggest asset in this book has to be the fact that Tarver isn't your typical alpha male teenager. Look, I don't have patience for a thirty something male character behaving all He-Man, so don't even get me started on the possibility of an eighteen year old following that same route. Because that is not going to happen. I have read more than my share of alpha asses. I am done with them.

So Tarver, he is respectful and caring, despite his occupation. A recently promoted Cpt.

As for Lilac, she is much more than a spoiled brat and a pretty face, so when the two of them have to start working together, their interactions just feel real enough, in light of their backgrounds.

These broken stars is mainly a survival story, with portions of paranormal in it, told in a sci-fi set.

As a survival story, it does suffer from what I like to call "journey through Middle Earth". -_-

Yeah, they walk a lot! Thankfully by then, the paranormals aspects start getting more visible _ or audible... yes, pun intended _ so it does become bearable. lol

The paranormal aspect was definitely creepy and mysterious, so I honestly had no idea of what was going to happen. Always a positive point.

The romance was swoon worthy and heart breaking. YES, HEART-BREAKING.

Have I told you guys that this book was offered to me by a friend?

And yes, this is definitely well written.

Definitely recommended... that is if you still haven't read it by now, because the hype is definitely real.

What can I say? Reaver was an amazing story, with a long trek through Sheoul, lots of innuendos, some nasty angels, good demons and so much intrigue my head was spinning.

My Reaver review:

I have started reading this series completely out of order, so I may have missed a thing or two – however, as you can see, I still loved Reaver! The writing is so good, and the characters grab your heartstrings from the beginning without ever letting go. There are incredible fights, both verbal and physical, romance, and of course a level of intrigue that is very hard to find. Reaver definitely showed a new side of himself here, especially because he managed to stay calm and actually do something constructive by trying to save Harvester. And for once, possible because she’d just endured months of torture, she didn’t have all her shields up, so she was much less prickly than usual.

The contradictions of this story don’t only inhabit Harvester, Reaver has his own, but also, the whole universe where there are angels and demons, and the angels are really supposed to be on the side of ‘good’, there are exceptions to every rule. Fast paced, the story took me first on a long, and quite scary trip to Sheoul, then there were so many other things happening it was hard to remember where, exactly, I was

Written in third person past tense, mostly from Reaver’s point of view, but also showing the reader quite a bit of what happens inside of Harvester’s head, Reaver is a very solid installment in the Lords of the Underworld / Demonica series. These demons are truly one of a kind, and I had almost forgotten how much I love them!

Enjoy. She was going to enjoy something while enduring and eternity of torture. The very fact that the word enjoy had broken through the gray matter of her brain at all was a measure of how high a threshold for pain and how low a threshold for pleasure she now had.

Reaver held harvester’s frail body tight against his as he navigated the final steps of a winding ledge that dropped them into a world of weird.

Only Harvester could push someone away while simultaneously keeping them close. She was the most contradictory person he’d ever met.

As sure as the sun eventually rises, I knew that I would read this book one of these days.
When?
Not sure, but I would get to it. After all, it was written by one of my favourite authors.

Strangely _or maybe nor_, it was while I was reading Kelley Armstrong's anthology "Led Astray" that I saw what I was missing out on not having started this series way sooner...although, now, I have the benefit of being able to read three books all in one row. Ahah! :D

So, let's start by calling things by their actual names. Is this an urban fantasy dash paranormal romance novel?
Humm, not really. In fact, if I hadn't read Led Astray that shone some light on what is happening in Cainsville, I would probably be suffering from "what the hell is going in here, people?"
This means that in the end I read this as your "basic" psychological suspense thriller with bits of the odd thrown in, once in awhile.

I love it that the author knows how to keep a story flowing. You don't have to give the reader an info dump once every minute, if you just knew how to do things. And the author sure knows how to.
That way, I was finally able to finish a story in a little over one day: huge thing for me, guys.

Also, I remember that I went to sleep thinking about what was going to happen in the story.
It got me invested in it. What more can I ask?

The characters, as usual, are well developed and interesting. I liked how in this one, they feel more raw. I liked how there wasn't the typical and immediate romance... between certain characters...

Having read "Led Astray" I was really curious about Gabriel and Patrick, so it was "nice" to seem them once again. As well as all the other folks in Cainville.
Definitely recommended to all of you who like a good mystery and who like to be kept on the edge of their seat.

On to the second one! :D
