Branded
Branded - Abi Ketner,Missy Kalicicki This book held my interest from start to finish, I finished it in one day.
It was fast paced and the plot was thrilling and unique.
The characters were really well developed, Lexie's more so because of the use of flashbacks and dreams to tell her story prior to her life in the Hole.
The relationship and intimacy between Lexie and Cole was just enough to leave you wanting more, the book ended at just the right moment that I'm sure readers can't wait for the sequel, myself included.
Overall it was a fantastic read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good dystopian novel :)
Well done Abi and Missy!

Branded by Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki
By Abi Ketner Branded (A Sinners Series) (Volume 1) - Abi Ketner

Branded is set in a dystopian world in which you are punished for committing one of the seven deadly sins. Imagine a place as large as a city being used as a dump site (The Hole) for those even accused of committing on of the sins, and it is severely under-guarded. (Yes there are tons of guards but they are there more for making sure the property isn't damaged.) With high walls and no way out, Lexie must live her life in a dangerous place with new mysteries popping up at every corner.

From about 30 pages in, I KNEW that this story would either revolve around finding her brother or father. I'm not sure how the beggar recognized her eyes unless he was truly old enough to have known her father, and from the story, it seems like her father was very loved. I won't like, I thought Keegan was a terrible leader. He's protective but overbearing. He sees his sister for the first time in years and he decides (still imagining her as his BABY SISTER) that she should fight and risk her life. So glad he's dead.

From the beginning it was obvious that she and Cole would 'fall in love'. He was never harsh like the others and pretty much let her do anything she chose to. Cole was a pushover and I really believe that in this case, he is a traitor to his country. Yes, he believes that someone shouldn't be treated badly, but he literally abandoned his job and killed the Commander.

ABOUT THE COMMANDER. It's her stepfather? What the actual fuck? And her stepfather is the Doctor's brother? (I can't remember his name, this book is that forgettable) WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING? I feel like it was a last moment attempt to get people to buy their next book.

While I'm not dying to read the next book in this series, I do want to continue on.

Review: Hunted
Hunted - Abi Ketner,Missy Kalicicki Hunted - Abi Ketner,Missy Kalicicki

Alright, so where do I begin? This is the sequel to Branded, which I totally adored. So if you have not picked up this book you should.

Plot: A quick re-cap would be in this world you are branded by your sin. Lust, pride, anger, etc. So in this story, Lexi is on the run with Cole, a former guard at the hole. I can tell you that  this plot is very fast paced. It definitely takes the reader in right away, spinning you off in car chases, gun fights, and lots of losses.

Losses/Friendships: One of the best things about the book is the relationships that are established. I really like how each relationship either builds up or brings down the characters. There are lots of secrets to be unraveled. I mean, with every turn of the chapter is got better and better.

Ending: I have to admit that there are certain things I did not see coming. It made me feel off. Like, how could that happen? THAT was not supposed to happened! Just so many accusations, secrets and torture that by the end, it left me shaken up.

My only issue is that the story felt (in the beginning) like it did the first book. It was pretty much the same story until the middle where things began to change. Other than that, I really enjoyed the story.

I would recommend this book to those who love dystopian. It is much different than what is put out there all the time on the shelves. Hunted is awesome!

Review: Hunted
Hunted - Abi Ketner,Missy Kalicicki Hunted - Abi Ketner,Missy Kalicicki

All I have to say after reading this book is WOW and HOLY CLIFFHANGER.  Now I NEED the next book.  That’s a lot of caps, and a lot of excitement.

Hunted picks up shortly after Branded ends.  There is action from the get go.  You are never bored, and there is no lull in the events that take place throughout the book.  We see just how twisted Wilson is, and that he has no kindness in him at all.  He’s absolutely awful.  The things he has started to put the people in the Hole through is something from a nightmare.

Lexi has grown so much throughout these books, and I love that.  She sees all the awful things going on around her, but still finds kindness and forgiveness in her heart for those that she doesn’t particularly like.  She learns that those she surrounds herself around are her family, and would do anything to help her.  Lexi also learns some things that will shake her to her core.  I can’t imagine the pain she goes through with the knowledge.

I can’t wait for the next installment.  Wilson needs to be taken down, and I hope Lexi has the strength to continue on this journey.

Goodreads Summary: “Fifty years ago The Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society.

To punish the guilty, he created the Hole, a place where sinners are branded according to their sins. Sinners are forced to live a less than human existence in deplorable conditions, under the watchful eye of guards who are ready to kill anyone who steps out of line.

Now, LUST wraps around my neck like thick, blue fingers, threatening to choke the life out of me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit, and the Hole is my new home.

Constant darkness.

Brutal and savage violence.

Excruciating pain.

Every day is a fight for survival.

But I won’t let them win. I will not die in the Hole.

I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter. My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.”

This is an amazing dystopian read that will leave you begging for more! It’s fast paced, exciting with an heart pounding romance that will make you fall in love with this mystical dark world!

Branded is an action-packed read that’s virtually impossible to put down once started. The characters are amazing, so well-written that I fell in love with them (even the ones I hated). This novel concentrates on the people and how they cope with their hopeless lives. It’s the characters that make this novel good. The main character, Lexi, in the beginning is sort of annoying but through the course of the book suffers some major character development.

Lexi and Cole are both fantastic characters. I fell in love with both of them immediately. Since the novel is told from Lexi’s point of view, we know what’s in her mind, her thoughts and feelings. It seems so real that is, almost, as if you are really living that moment yourself. I enjoyed the way her story was drawn out. We know from the beginning that she’s innocent of her crime, but not her entire backstory. When it’s all revealed, it’s a doozie. What we don’t learn much about is Cole’s backstory. Which I hope to find out more in the next book.

Abi Ketner & Missy Kalicicki have brought a unique concept in the Dysoptian genre with Branded. The moment I started reading Branded I was sucked into this world, and I couldn’t put this book down. I was surprised more than once with the revelations of each character and I was even more surprised with the revelation of the identity of the commander. I found myself cringing at some of the graphic violence because it was that easy to visualize it. I felt that I was inside the story with Lexi and Cole in the Hole. I can’t wait to read the second book in this series!

Branded by Abi Ketner & Missy Kalicicki is by far my favorite Dystopian read and has sit the standards for any other Dystopian book I read in the future…
