Hmmm... Normally, I really don't care about "the children's" stories, i.e. those young-uns that were born in previous books, or appeared in previous books. I think that the author didn't really show much of these darlings helps. By the time they came along, the parents only made brief appearances, and the kids stayed out of sight.

So... We have Aiden, brother to Althea, and one of Leo and Tisana (sp?)'s brood. like Althea, he inherited Mordrial "gifts" that make him...uncomfortable...around a lot of people. He's been having a vision of a woman falling while mountain climbing, so he's taken to flying (think Icarus), and he spots her.

Sula is an anthropology student whose boyfriend noticed something suspicious and was dumb enough to say something about it to the professor. Since the entire faculty seems to have been involved, he and the h were "volunteered" for a study on a planet. But first...he was innoculated with a nasty bug. Somehow the h had immunity. She's been in hiding for the past year on another planet.

There were some things that puzzled me - the h admired the H but up until they got on a ship, was largely able to control her wayward thoughts enough for him to not notice most of the time. Afterwards though... It was a complete 180. Then again, she seemed to have a great deal of difficulty NOT thinking about stuff - post-coital rumination lead to the realization that there were no primates on the planet she'd been hiding on (but she did find signs there was an ancient civilization).

She's Indian so there's lots of Indian cuisine. At some point, I pondered why nobody asked for a hamburger.

And one thing that was actually annoying. They confront the bad guy, he shoots the H with a dart, and the H spends the next *3* pages telling the h her future, because she wigs out. Halfway through this monologue, the bad guy pulls a gun and tries to shoot them.

I have to say, some of the species that get introduced are v. interesting and sometimes I kinda wish the series wasn't *just* Zetithian in focus (we have a winged science experiment who runs around shirtless and in tights).

I missed the Zetithians...

My issues are... I don't remember the joy juice causing the reactions that way. Granted, it's been a few years since the last one. Still... Not sure any of the previous books are where I can reach them though to double check. Oh wait - one was a freebie on kindle once.

And... I generally don't find it that interesting to read up on the now adult offspring of previous H/h pairings. Actually, most of the time I find it uncomfortable, particularly if the author has let me see v. much in the growing up of said offspring.

The H and h are offspring of the two couples on the Jolly Roger, namely a son of Jack and Cat, and a daughter of err...whatever her name is, and Leo. There's a bit of side romance after a fashion in the form of a couple from the Statzeel/Zetithian breeding program. I was a bit... Ok, it's been a while since I read Manx's book so I must have missed the negotiations where he and Leo donned rubber gloves and grabbed mason jars. I knew about Cat's contribution as that happened in the first book. Apparently this is ongoing and I have to wonder - did it occur to them at any point that their lifestyle wasn't really compatible with Zetithian mating habits?

Whatever. It was interesting, particularly that the hybrids don't always function quite the same as the purebloods. Also interesting that it has occurred to someone that these guys have the potential to wipe out other races just by interbreeding.
