Maverick - Cheryl Brooks

I missed the Zetithians...

My issues are... I don't remember the joy juice causing the reactions that way. Granted, it's been a few years since the last one. Still... Not sure any of the previous books are where I can reach them though to double check. Oh wait - one was a freebie on kindle once.

And... I generally don't find it that interesting to read up on the now adult offspring of previous H/h pairings. Actually, most of the time I find it uncomfortable, particularly if the author has let me see v. much in the growing up of said offspring.

The H and h are offspring of the two couples on the Jolly Roger, namely a son of Jack and Cat, and a daughter of err...whatever her name is, and Leo. There's a bit of side romance after a fashion in the form of a couple from the Statzeel/Zetithian breeding program. I was a bit... Ok, it's been a while since I read Manx's book so I must have missed the negotiations where he and Leo donned rubber gloves and grabbed mason jars. I knew about Cat's contribution as that happened in the first book. Apparently this is ongoing and I have to wonder - did it occur to them at any point that their lifestyle wasn't really compatible with Zetithian mating habits?

Whatever. It was interesting, particularly that the hybrids don't always function quite the same as the purebloods. Also interesting that it has occurred to someone that these guys have the potential to wipe out other races just by interbreeding.

The Zetithian felines are back along with a whole host of other aliens in this hot, spicy and adventurous cosmic romance. Larry and Althea are bold and fierce characters that easily draw readers into their world as a distress call sets on a path into danger. Larry and Althea’s romance is a bit unexpected (for them) as they fight their sizzling undeniable attraction with snarky wit and Althea’s empathic powers add a whole other dimension to this relationship as she sets out to help him discover what he truly desires. The relationship is feisty with quite a bit of turbulence that certainly keeps things interesting during this courtship while they become the champions of truth and justice throughout the galaxy.

Surprising twists adds to the exhilarating and adrenaline pumping adventure, thrilling suspense and fascinating alien elements found in this steady to fast paced and smooth flowing plot. The varying planet settings are well developed and the author paints vivid images of her world so that the readers can easily imagine each and every setting as they get to know all the fascinating characters involved which makes it easy for readers to become caught up in this sexy space adventure. Some unique alien features, some of which are on the sensual and racy side add to the hotness factor of this read and I quite fascinated by the ideas put forth in Larry Althea’s romantic escapades, which has me quite curious and looking forward to visiting more of this intriguing world.

Montana Maverick
Montana Maverick (Bear Grass Springs Book 3) - Ramona Flightner

My reviews are honest & they contain spoilers. For more, follow me:

Montana Maverick is the book 3 of Ramona Flightner’s historical romance series, Bear Grass Springs. A huge fan of her debut series Banished Saga, I didn’t hesitate picking it up when I heard she’s coming up with a new HR set in a slightly different era. Regrettably, have to say that so far I haven’t felt the connection with the stories as well as I thought I would.

Whereas Banished Saga is set in the early 20th century America, Bear Grass Springs is set in the 1880s Montana. It’s also quite different that Banished Saga in the sense that each story ends in your traditional HEA. Yes, it’s still a clean romance and yes, we still get to know about a family and see them find love one after another but you get your traditional HEA, rather than a Saga where it spans years and includes new characters of new generations. I love both styles and appreciate the author exploring both routes. Initially, many readers complained about the first book of Banished Saga not having a traditional HEA. But that won’t be an issue with the Bear Grass Springs novels.

Book 1, Montana Untamed, introduces us to the MacKinnon brothers Cailean, Alistair and Ewan and their younger sister, Sorcha. They came to America from Scotland to settle down after they were forced from their lands. The eldest two arrived first. Eventually, Ewan and Sorcha joined them. Cailean and Alistair are very successful livery owners, the only one in the small town of Bear Grass Springs. Ewan’s skills lie with carpentry, which the people of the town appreciated, so he’s been doing good as well. Both well-liked and respected among the people and, alongside Ewan, they’re also well sought after bachelors. Cailean the eldest is what I’d call a grumpy bear. Very serious and moody. Alistair, the middle brother, seemed like the one with a sound head on his shoulders. Cool and calm as they say. Ewan is the happy go lucky charmer who can be impetuous at times. His gambling habit is one of those things that his brothers do not approve of. Sorcha is still young and brash, she has her own burdens to bear too as you will read, but her brothers love her all the same.

Moving Maverick (Made Marian, #5) by Lucy Lennox Review
Moving Maverick: A Made Marian Novel (Volume 5) - Lucy Lennox

“Do you remember what you promised?”

Maverick: I haven't been back to Rabbit Island, South Carolina, since my parents died and my grandmother, Mimi, rejected me. I'm only returning now to attend her funeral and sell an estate I never wanted. But the moment I step foot on the island and fall into Beau’s arms, I realize it might not be so easy to say goodbye after all.

Beau Talmadge was always the boy next door, but now he’s no longer a kid. The man is hot as hell and pushes all my buttons in the very best way. I'm supposed to leave in a week. Sell everything, close the door on my past, and walk away forever. So why am I letting myself fall for someone who lives thousands of miles away? And how the hell am I going to break it off when it's time to go?

“That I’d come back.”

Beau: It took one short summer to fall in love with Maverick Mitchell and fifteen long years to forget him when he left. I’d never expected to see him again, but when he shows up at Mimi’s funeral looking lost and lonely I can’t resist doing anything I can to comfort him. Falling into bed with Maverick is easy and the nights we spend together are as hot and steamy as a South Carolina thunderstorm.

I know it's not smart. I know it's not what he planned. But dammit, Mav belongs in my arms, in my bed, and in my life. So how the hell do I get him to stay?

“Took you long enough.”

Fair warning: Moving Maverick is a 73k word gay romance novel featuring sweet tea vodka, fancy salt and pepper shakers, guys catching crabs (not that kind), Aunt Tilly with a knife, and multiple detailed instances of man parts touching.

Review

The setting is the real star of book and Beau and Mav are very cute together. There is a pile of sexy times and some fun with salt and pepper shakers.

I like the romance here but the again the backstory (why Mav's grandmother gave him up) and some other elements of conflict don't really work well.

We get less of the whole family in this book but tons of couple time and a sweet romance.

The Maverick's Return
The Maverick's Return - Marie Ferrarella The Maverick's Return - Marie Ferrarella 3.75 stars

I borrowed The Maverick’s Return from the library because of the cowboy on the cover. I know. I’m so transparent. I love me my cowboy books. While I wasn’t too enamored with Daniel, this was a light, quick read.

Daniel Stockton has been away from home for 12 years. He hasn’t spoken to any of his siblings in all that time, or the girl he left behind when he fled Montana. After seeing his brother on TV, he decides it’s time to head home and try to mend some bridges.

Anne Lattimore is the girl Daniel left behind. After his parents’ funeral, he disappeared, and she hasn’t heard from him since. Pregnant with his child, she searched for him, desperate to find him. After all of these years, she hasn’t been able to move on, and her love for Daniel has ruined her marriage.

When Daniel shows up on her doorstep, with no warning, after no contact for 12 years, I don’t think I’d have let into the house. Anne and her ex have agreed to tell Janie, Anne’s daughter, that Hank is her father. Daniel throws a wrench in that, because once he’s back in the picture, Anne’s conscience forces her to tell him the truth.

Daniel irritated me. I didn’t have any faith that he would stick around when the going go tough. I could understand why he felt so much guilt when he was teenager, and why he felt he was responsible for his parents’ tragic accident, but come on. He’s older and should have been wiser, but I don’t feel that he ever matured. Even when he learns that he has a pre-teen daughter, the flight instinct was kicked into overdrive. It took until almost the end of the book for him to decide to stay in Rust Creek, to make the commitment to his family, and I thought that it took him too long.

This is a quick, sweet read, though, and despite Daniel’s quirks, I enjoyed it. I think this is the first book I’ve read by the author; I wouldn’t hesitate to read something by her again.
