Kaitlin's Tale
Kaitlin's Tale - Christine Amsden Kaitlin's Tale - Christine Amsden Kaitlin Mayer will do anything to save her baby, her son’s life, save him from becoming a part of the undead community, a vampire even if she has to give up her son and her own life. When the opportunity arises Kaitlin takes her son and runs; runs for her life right into the hunter’s compound with her son. The way Kaitlin sees it this will be the safest place for her son. But when she gets inside she is not so sure that running to the compound was the right thing to do. But it will do for now, she will cross that bridge when it comes time to walk across it or not. For the time being she is just taking one day at a time and whatever opportunity opens up for her and her son she will take it.

Kaitlin finds out after arriving at the hunter’s compound that it may not be on the up and up, that things may not be like everyone’s is seeing it. While she is in the compound she meets up with an old friend or someone she knows at least. The person she runs into is her best friend Cassie’s ex-boyfriend, Matthew. Kaitlin is not real fond of Matthew because of what he did to Cassie. But if Matthew can help her save her son she will definitely let him.

Matthew is at the compound for reasons of his own and when he sees Kaitlin he realizes that Kaitlin may just be able to help him with his cause. She just may become an ally one that could become very useful. When they meet Matthew and Kaitlin alike will go to whatever extremes they need to in order to get what they want and for different reason of course.

Kaitlin is very tough woman who will do whatever it takes to save her baby. The vampires may want to watch out for Kaitlin. Why? Well because as they say you don’t want to miss with a woman’s baby. She just may bite you. Kaitlin is a very smart, clever woman who knows how to get what she wants. Kaitlin may not have any magical abilities of her own or does she? but she has a form of thrall that most women have when it comes to men and she knows she how to use it to get what she wants.

If you have not read Kaitlin’s Tale then I would highly recommend you do oh but even though Kaitlin’s Tale can be read as a standalone I would suggest that you read the Cassie Scot novels first that way you will know more about Kaitlin and the other characters and can get a better sense as to what is going on with a little more background on each character. I would recommend reading all of the Cassie Scot novels as well the companion stories too. They are all so aaammmazzzzzing!

Stolen Dreams by Christine Amsden
Stolen Dreams (Cassie Scot Book 4) - Christine Amsden

Edward Scot and Victor Blackwood have despised one another for nearly a quarter of a century, but now their simmering hatred is about to erupt.

When Cassie Scot returns home from her sojourn in Pennsylvania, she finds that her family has taken a hostage. Desperate to end the fighting before someone dies, Cassie seeks help from local seer Abigail Hastings, Evan Blackwood’s grandmother. But Abigail has seen her own death, and when it comes at the hand of Cassie’s father, Victor Blackwood kills Edward Scot.

But things may not be precisely as they appear.

Evan persuades Cassie to help him learn the truth, teaming them up once again in their darkest hour. New revelations about Evan and his family make it difficult for Cassie to cling to a shield of anger, but can Evan and Cassie stop a feud that has taken on a life of its own? Conclusion to the Cassie Scot series.

Fantastic Side Addition to a Wonderful Series!
Madison's Song - Christine Amsden

Her voice is enchanting; his soul is black…

One haunting sentence, perfectly describing the entire underlying struggle in this book.  A story full of tension and suspense, and completely finger-wringing worthy.

Madison was a remarkably mysterious and interesting side character in the Cassie Scot series.  She was an important piece of that chess game, and it's wonderful to read more about her, exploring what happened after the dramatic ending of Cassie's story.  She was the character I found myself identifying with the most in that series, and was eager to have the opportunity to read more about her.

Scott was the same way.  I felt intrigued by his character, and kept hoping he would be explored a bit deeper during the original series.  I love that they have their own story now, and a final conclusion to their connection.  Understanding them each a bit more adds depth to the original story line, and answers several questions previously raised and left unanswered.

The book starts out intense, and honestly made me slightly uncomfortable and overwhelmed.  No light or subtle preamble about it, simply thrust into the depths of anguish and heartache.  We dive into the tormented lives Madison and Scott have each endured both before and after an agonizing turn of events, that leave the pair in excruciating pain.  The desire to feel both compassion and judgment for them is overwhelming, quickly pulling you into the raw emotion of this story.

I would definitely say this is a book for upper Young Adult, or New Adult readers.  The entire book is intense, with constant scenes of gore, violence, and mature content, as well as sexual scenes which, while not entirely graphic, are intense and overwhelming to the reader, leaving little to the imagination.  The mixture of religious themes from Catholicism, completely intertwined with supernatural (and unnatural) creatures, magic and folklore may also make some uncomfortable, but is a core part of this story.

Christine Amsden is definitely a writer with superb talent, and I've enjoyed every book I've read from her.  She is a gifted storyteller, never failing to pull me into her stories, connecting me with the world she's created, and the characters living, fighting and dying there.  This book is probably one of my favorites from her so far, and it has certainly left it's mark on me.

The ending though - agh, the ending!!  Exactly the opposite of what I was hoping for, but most likely what Madison would have wanted.  It did leave me feeling a bit let down honestly, after such an intense and emotional book.  An anticlimactic finish to thirty four chapters of build up and suspense.

Having such a disappointing ending however, is really the only thing I didn't like.  It's a wonderful read, especially for fans of this series.  I think a lot of the depth would be lost on someone reading it without first devouring the Cassie Scot series, and while the majority of the back story is explained, it would be difficult to follow if you don't know the original story.

It is a book I'd recommend to anyone, however, and I think can be enjoyed by any fan of this genre.

*I was given an eCopy of this book, from the author, to read in exchange for an honest review.

Blog Tour Review: Madison's Song
Madison's Song - Christine Amsden

I received this book as part of a blog tour to give my honest review.

I am very glad the author did a spin off with the character Madison.

She didn't play too huge a part in the other books but she is and was a very memorable character. She has dealt with a lot especially when it comes to the Scot family, which I recommend you to totally read the other books. We learn in the previous reads that she has the gift of song.

That means she can sing and her words get to people her mother had this gift, but her gift hasn't been used until recently because her step-father always told her it was the devil's voice.

When her brother calls for her help she goes to the one person that scares her the Alpha of a werewolf pack Scott. You just know that Madison and Scott have feelings for each other but would it ever work? Madison has a fear of magic and Scott doesn't want to hurt Madison. While Madison and Scott are both looking for her brother it seems they are being hunted as well.

Will Madison be able to save her brother and learn more about magic? Will she have a relationship with Scott? Heck will they even survive everything being thrown at them?

This book is action packed and the author did a great job with the characters once again. We don't get to see Cassie in this story which was okay, it was nice to focus on another character and what was going on with her.
