My Thoughts

Some of the others who have read this book, have loved it. And yet, the reasons that they loved it so much more than the first two books, are the same reasons that I did not like as much as the first two books.  The biggest of those reason's being that it's darker than the first two stories.  Darker in a way that makes it physically painful to read at times.

Talia's story is sad and heartbreaking, and yet I didn't really feel like I connected to her as much as I wanted too.  Alexi is clearly broken too, and his story is heartbreaking, but made even more so by the treatment of his family or Vory as they're called.  I'm just not feeling this Vory…their code that they live by or whatever.  I don't think it's for me.

Tracy Marks has done excellently with the narration of this series…but this particular story, and I think it may be because of the Russian accent rather than the Irish accent, fell a little short of excellent for me.

The Roanoke Girls: A Novel - Amy Engel

♪♫My Pick For Book Theme Song♫♪

♫Picking a song for this was difficult…if you've read it then you know, nothing is really quite right…but if I picked something, than it would be Alive by Sia…sometimes they fit for Lane…and sometimes they fit for Allegra and even for Cooper sometimes.  Overall, it's a really moving song and so is this book…regardless of how twisted it really is. ♫

My Thoughts

What a versatile storyteller Amy Engel has turned out to be.  I've also read her YA Duology; The Book of Ivy.  This is nothing like that…I would have to say it's not YA, either.  Small town seediness at it's most seedy.  A sick and twisted affair to be sure…and yet, so addicting.  I could not stop listening, even though I knew where it was headed. beautifully and hauntingly written...but so f*cked up!  Warning:  It will, at least partially, if not wholly...wreck you.  You'll seriously be thinking...

Queen of Always (Stolen Empire Book 3) - Sherry D. Ficklin

♪♫My Pick For Book Theme Song♫♪

Leader of the Broken Hearts by Papa Roach  --Catherine is tasked with some difficult decisions that leave her not so lucky in love. Ultimately, she did it all for Russia…

And now I finally know what it feels like

To risk everything and still survive

When you’re standing on the battlefield

And all the pain is real

That’s when you realize

That you must’ve done something right

'Cause you’ve never felt so alive

*note:  all the lyric video's for this song were not quite the right one, but this one's at least visually engaging…but some of the lyrics are wrong.

My Thoughts

She's ruthless, because she has to be…she's loved because she's fair.  She's the queen because she took it.

A stunning conclusion to the Stolen Empire Series…a sometimes poignant, sometimes encouraging, with some serious OMG moments leading up to her stealing the crown from her asinine (and that word doesn't even cover it) husband, Peter.  For such a short book it really packs a punch.

⇝Sex Factor⇜ This is older ya for sure because of the graphic content and the sex.  Especially, one scene in particular…wow (maybe a little TMI).

The Midnight Star (Young Elites Book 3) - Marie Lu

♪♫My Pick For Book Theme Song♫♪

Monster by Skillet  --For Adelina…the monstrous girl…

The secret side of me, I never let you see

I keep it caged but I can't control it

So stay away from me, the beast is ugly

I feel the rage and I just can't hold it

It's scratching on the walls, in the closet, in the halls

It comes awake and I can't control it

Hiding under the bed, in my body, in my head

Why won't somebody come and save me from this, make it end?

My Thoughts

Overall, a satisfying ending to this vivid, darkishly fantastical realm.  While, I didn't like this as much as her Legend Series, it was a worthwhile read.  Despite my minds underwhelming capacity for the fantastical.  If you sometimes like to root for the bad guys, then this should be to your liking.
