Emily ~ This book, once again, lived up to my established expectations for Kerstin Geir: it was fun, clever, witty, and fast-paced with a delightful heroine who I have grown to love even more since the first book. The book opens with Gwen once again at odds with Gideon, dreading attending a ball with the creepy-as-hell Count Saint-Germain, and in the dark to most of the goings of the secret society that is based around her inherited time travel capabilities.

 

Rosi ~ Here is what I will say about this book: it was a rousing ending to (I’m going to use this word again) a romp of a series. It delivers everything promised in the first two books, and in spades: strange magic, sinister forces, love, friendship, and quite a lot more.

Overall this book was really good. I enjoyed how the romance played out between Ruby and Gideon. My only problem though was that it felt like the ending was a little rushed.

Okay, so when I was getting to the end I realized that there were only about thirty pages left. I was sure that there was a fourth book that was out and I was the only one that didn't know about, but then as I kept reading I realized that this is how they were going to end the book.
Basically it was just a quick conversation between the count (Mr.Whitman) and then Gideon arrives, get's shot and then we find out he is immortal. All that happened in the span of about fifteen pages. I just was just kind of expecting something with more fighting scenes, or like Gideon get's shot, but then Gwenyth has to go back in time to save him.
It just seemed like the ending was forced and that the author just wanted to end this book fast.
I don't know and please no hate. I am just saying my opinion.
Besides I actually really did like this book

I think my favorite part was when Gwenyth get's stabbed and Gideon and we finally realize that Gideon really does love Gwenyth. It was just so adorable and caught up int the heat of the moment I actually did shed a few tears.

I have to say though that my favorite character has and always will be Xemerious. He was hilarious and in the movie he was so cute.

Anyways I don't usually make really long reviews and so I am going to end this now.

Kirsten Gier ends her Precious Stone Trilogy with Emerald Green. I don't think I mentioned this in previous reviews, but this entire series is translated from German. I can't say I've read a ton of translations, but I never felt like the language was clunky or didn't work. Anthea Bell, who translated this series, did an impeccable job.

 

Overall, I liked the series, but it did always seem like one long story rather than three books. The stopping points seemed more arbitrary than anything. But I think the story is good and interesting. The twist at the end was well done and I did not see it coming, but it did feel a bit anticlimatic.

 

I also would have liked to see a bit more of an ending in regards to certain characters.

 

But I would definitely read more of Kirsten Gier's books. And Anthea Bell's translations.

Day 3: Favorite novel in translation.

 

You can't really chose one of these, as you really can't read these without all three of them sitting beside you...or the cliffhangers might kill you.

 

While I have some issues with this series, it is quite good and the time travel element of it was very fascinating. A tad predictable at times, but it was like a roller coaster you did not (and could not) git off.

 

The translation from the original German was superb and I enjoyed not seeing the handiwork of the translator. You knew it was there but the book flowed flawlessly with only the slightest hint that you were not reading it in its original language.
