Adventure Time Comics Vol. 3 - Phillip K... Adventure Time Comics Vol. 3 - Phillip Kennedy Johnson,Pendleton Ward,Jorge Corona,Tony Sandoval
For more reviews, check out my blog: Craft-Cycle

Another butt-kicking installment in the Adventure Time Comics series. This is a great series for Adventure Time fans and there is something in it for everyone. As with the previous books, there is a nice variety in the art styles, writing, and stories.

Some of my favorites in this collection were Rii Abrego's "Bad Radishes", Christine Larsen's "Third Eye", Jarrett Williams's "Princess Rap Battle", and Grace Kraft's "Chef BMO".

Fun books with original stories and great artwork. I am really enjoying this series so far.

Middlewest - Skottie Young,Jorge Corona Middlewest - Skottie Young,Jorge Corona

This is an interesting look at a world not quite like ours but is somewhat different and a boy whose father has a terrible temper. Things come to a head and Abel runs away from home to find answers to complex questions while a storm that knows his name follows him. Done in quite a European (Spain/France/Belgian) Comics style (Jorge Corona is from Venezuela) it's an interesting twist on some of the stories about family that I've read.

Recommended. Borrowed from Dublin Public Libraries.

Better
The Darkness: Shadows & Flame (The Darkness: Shadows and Flames) - Rob Levin,Jorge Lucas,Jorge Lucas,Jorge Lucas,Felix Serrano

This actually had a plot twist - that was probably pretty obvious because I guessed it and I suck at guessing plot twists - and I found myself invested in the characters.   Not a favorite, but I dug this a lot more than the previous Darkness story.

Feathers by Jorge Cordona
Feathers - Jorge Corona

'Feathers' is about a boy named Poe who was abandoned as an infant in a back street of the "Maze" a sprawling, chaotic settlement surrounding the "City". Two entities are responsible for his being there, to address something cryptically referred to as "The Balance".

Also, he's covered in black feathers and a sensitivity to light requires his wearing of goggles.

On the night he is found by his adoptive father, a predator begins stalking the streets stealing away homeless children, known as Mice. The action begins years later as a near-adolescent Poe has taken to helping the mice go about their business of surviving - by stealing - and escaping the guardsmen. He must do so in secret, for fear of being attacked because of his differences, and the children view him as a ghost to be frightened of rather than a savior.

Meanwhile in the City, Bianca is bored and pesters her father to allow her to accompany him to the city docks, on the other side of the Maze, for business. She ignores his warnings about the dangers of the maze and jeopardizes herself, her father and a lot of innocent people of the Maze and City who will get hurt because she felt like having an adventure.

I didn't like Bianca, I don't think as a reader you're supposed to dislike her, but I did.

Guess who run into each other? So the narrative may be a little predictable, but the setting is full of lore and questions that will leave readers begging for more. Poe and Bianca working together make some mistakes but uncover some terrible secrets and do a lot of good in the process.

This is the kind of fun graphic novel that needs discovering, be sure to check it out!

Not For Me
Turned to Stone (Jaime Azcárate Series) - Jorge Magano,Simon Bruni

Jaime doesn’t know when he walked into a rustic restaurant at Calle Manor that he was about to get himself into another one of his frequent scrapes. Jaime was in the category of people who ever intend to act as magnets for conflicts, mysteries, and trouble. This was more or less a vacation. The trip was planned for pleasure to see the exhibit . But he knew Laura Rodriguez. Editor of Areadia would ask him to write a few lines for the magazine’s next issue. For several weeks jaime felt an inexplicable inner turmoil . A man came to see Jaime at his table  and asked if he was Jaime Azcarate and that he was with EHU- The European Heritage unit in the European Police Office. EHU was set up six months before. He added it was like the Narcotics or Homicide Department and operates throughout europe. Than he told Jaime he needed to to talk to him about a case they were investigating. Than Jaime was asked if he knew this work of art and showed him a picture of it. Jaime identified the picture a bust of medusa. Jaime than lied about an article he had written and the man called him out on a lie. Than jaome said he heard the bust of Medusa had disappeared last month from a museum.

This book just wasn’t for me. It dragged for me and just didn’t keep my attention. I am sure others will like this it just wasn’t for me as I said.
