Order 66 (Star Wars: Republic Commando, Book 4)
Order 66 (Star Wars: Republic Commando, Book 4) - Karen Traviss I haven't read the other books in this series, but once you get into it then it works as a novel on its own.
Kal Skirata has been training clone troops, and comes to see them as his boys. They've started to have lives of their own, rather than just being mass produced copies of Jango Fett.
Kal wants to get them out of the army, and find a way to increase their built in limited life span. To this end, his troops have been hacking data from the Republic, building up a close unit of allies and siphoning money.
Palpatine has been building his own fleet of ships and getting his own clone army put into the action. When he sends out Order 66, telling them to kill all Jedi, its time for Skirata to try and get his troops somewhere safe.

Lots going on, sacrifices and bending the rules. Traviss writes good characters, making them more than a faceless representation of the Republic. An interesting read from the other sides point of view.

Old Republic Roundup
Revan - Drew Karpyshyn
Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived - Paul S. Kemp
Fatal Alliance - Sean Williams
Annihilation: Star Wars (The Old Republic #4) - Drew Karpyshyn

This was fun! I'm glad I listened to my bros recommendations and read the series. With the exception of Fatal Alliance, this was a very good batch of reading.

The books can be read as stand alone novels. But there is benefit in reading them in order, especially the last three.

Reading these also reminded me to never judge a series based on one bad book.  Years ago, I had abandoned the series after reading Fatal Alliance and I regret that.

I'm also reminded how much I enjoy  Star Wars books. Think I will make my way through the Legends timeline.  Great escapist reading.

May the force be with you!

Annihilation (Old Republic #4)
Annihilation: Star Wars (The Old Republic #4) - Drew Karpyshyn

This book was just fun.

We are still pre-A New Hope.  The  Great Galactic War has ended,  ushering in a Jedi/Sith Cold War wherein everyone is still fighting.  This book takes place from the standpoint of the Republic version of the CIA. I liked seeing the Republic government's involvement.  Our main character  is NOT Jedi and not force sensitive. So we see capable people getting it done without moving things with their minds.

Apparently,  the Sith have constructed a large Destroyer-like ship that hooks up to a Sith mind. The Sith then is able to use the force to fight fleets of ships.  This thing has to be taken down obviously cuz that kinda power is obnoxious and Luke hasn't been born yet.  Our hero, Theron,  comes up with a solid plan involving using ciphers.  It's been done before,  but I liked how I was reminded(and I'm confident it was intentional) of the dilemmas faced by Alan Turing's success in  WWII with Enigma.  The same issues were echoed and dealt with here.

This book was also funny.  Theron has a foster sister he checks in on whose blunt observations and lack of filter had me laughing during the tense face offs at the end. And Theron wears Han Solo arrogance well.

Definitely recommend.
