A Night To Remember by Celeste Bradley & Susan Donovan
A Night to Remember - Celeste Bradley,Susan Donovan

In Wedding Knight Katrina Trapp takes her nervous twin sister's place at the altar, only to find out her sister never had any intentions of marrying Alfred Theodious Knight in the first place...

This was a quick, quirky and funny little romp about a woman switching places with her sister, who ends up disappearing and leaves her in the lurch of being married to a supposed tyrant of a man. But as the two newlyweds come to get to know each other, they also rediscover themselves, and dare we hope fall in love?

I liked the two protagonists, although I felt Katrina was a tad too bratty at times, and I loved how they slowly changed for one another as they got to know each other and developed tender feelings of one another. Of course, seeing how everything was based on a switch, the inevitable twist had to come.
I felt it was resolved a little too quickly, but that's scandal for you.

A lovely little budding romance story.

In Have Mercy Winifred Mackland, having failed to deliver a good manuscript, is packed away on a forced writing retreat by her agent...Who turns out to have matchmaking tendencies...

Quick, funky and hot as hell.

Initially, I felt it was all moving a tad too quickly (even for a short story), but as it moved along, and the two got into their easy rhythm beyond jumping naked into the hot tub on the day they met, I came to love them and their little romance.

The progress and the reservations thanks to Mac's profession, was organic and realistic, and they were super cute and super hot together. Besides, the story made me smile, which is always a plus.

Review: Stealing Taffy by Susan Donovan
Unwrapping Taffy - Susan Donovan

http://witandsin.blogspot.com/2017/01/review-stealing-taffy-by-susan-donovan.html

Return to Bigler, North Carolina and see a former villain become an endearing, slightly daffy heroine in Stealing Taffy. Susan Donovan had an uphill battle turning Tanyalee into a heroine I could like. Tanyalee’s past and her treatment of others (especially her sister, the heroine of Cheri on Top) was despicable and there was no excuse for it. The newly-reformed Tanyalee in Stealing Taffy is a women who doesn’t make excuses for her past and is trying to make amends, and I actually liked her villain-to-heroine arc. The new Tanyalee is a bit out of her depth when she returns to her hometown, and I liked seeing her work on being a better person. Part of her efforts includes mentoring a troubled young girl, Fern. Fern and Tanyalee’s relationship was, for me, the highlight of the book. The two of them gave this book genuine heart and had it just been their respective journeys, I would have adored Stealing Taffy.

Where the story falters is the romance. Dante is an interesting hero with lots of potential, but we never go into depth on any of his issues. Because of this, he felt a bit cardboard, and this was a pity because Ms. Donovan tells us he’s a hero with issues of his own, ones that are passed over in favor of other storylines. Mostly Dante feels like a springboard for other characters (Tanyalee in particular) and plotlines to bounce off of. His relationship with Tanyalee is fluffy and fun, but there’s a real case of missed opportunity. I couldn’t connect with the characters and the romance felt superficial, so I was left wanting more. Stealing Taffy isn’t a bad book – it’s enjoyable, lighthearted entertainment – but the romance is missing heart. With a bit more depth, this book could have gone from ok to great.

FTC Disclosure: I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Tapped-Out @ 50%

I hate to not finish a book, especially when it is so graciously provided by the publisher. Alas I just COULDN'T keep reading this one. Everything was just so over the top ridiculous. I loathed Taffy from first introduction. How in the World did the author think a character with her apparent background would make good heroine material?

I really am bummed, because I was really looking forward to this one...

Book Review: He Loves Lucy
He Loves Lucy - Susan Donovan

He Loves Lucy had an interesting premise which is why I picked it up. I can relate to the weight loss angle of the book and Lucy's determination. This one's an entertainer. I liked the milk duds loving Lucy whose sexual fantasies involve Lorna Doone cookies.

Lucy is funny, smart and sarcastic. While Theo's character was motivating and hot, I wish he had a bit more to offer when it came to romance. He seemed to be rather wishy-washy until the last minute. The side characters on this one weren't that strong (except the therapist, maybe).

The best part about this book was the comedy. Compared to Public displays of affection, which was my last book by her, this one was more to-the-point. The heroine was strong and funny. Her transformation was very sudden (at least in the weight loss department) but the ending was satisfying.

After finishing this book, I was craving every junk food there is especially Milk Duds and Lorna Doone cookies.

Overall, this makes a good beach or plane read.

Book Review: Public Displays of Affection
Public Displays of Affection - Susan Donovan

This book was my first book my Susan Donovan. I read about it online and decided that it sounded interesting enough to read. I felt that there was a lot of delaying/ pushing back of the climax. The last few bits were a bit rushed but overall, PDAs was a very good book. I've picked up the whole series since.
The heroine is very relatable. She is a small town 'good girl' who struggles with expressing her sexual desire in public mainly due to her marriage. However, the hero is all she needs to let that 'good girl' image go and surrender to her desires. I liked the annoying LoriSue and was wondering if she has a book of her own. Ned and Bonnie were also great characters.

The heroine was realistic and believable. The author explored an issue that usually doesn't get talked about often. I liked that she had her hangups and insecurities.
Overall, a very good romantic comedy. Susan Donovan writes great romances with lots of humor. Will definitely be reading more books by her.
