Great Story and Characters
To Love and to Cherish (Wedding Belles) - Lauren Layne

Alexis was sitting in a bar when an Englishman came up and offered to buy her a drink . His name was Logan and he had inherited a lot of money from his aunt, Logan had recently graduated from college. He got his MBA from Columbia. Logan was an accountant His parents wanted him to come back to England and run the family business but Logan just wasn’t ready to. Alexis had recently graduated and got her Masters in Marketing and Business Administration. Then alexis let Logan read her plan for Wedding Belles - her future wedding planning company.Alexis had thought about her business since she was twelve. Logan offers to fund Alexis to get her business up and running but he wants to own fifty percent of the business as a silent partner. Alexis turns him down but she does call him back and accepts his offer. That was several years ago and Wedding Belles was still in business and doing very good. But Alexis realizes she has no personal life. Then Logan kisses her out of nowhere and it was great but it could destroy their partnership. Alexis’s sister Roxy is pregnant and marrying Alexis's ex boyfriend Adam  who she had thought herself in love with  But Roxy and Adam have been together ten years now. Alexis was in Florida for the wedding and Logan shows up claiming to be Alexis’s boyfriend.

I loved everything about this story. Alexis finding out what she felt just before it was too late. Logan showing up in Florida where Roxy was getting married. Especially declaring to Alexis’s mom and stepmom he was her boyfriend was just excellent. I felt bad for Alexis when she had hurt over Adam and had to rebuild a relationship with her sister Roxy but evidently Roxy and Adam were meant to be. . I also like it even though he hurt himself and Alexis when Logan finally put down his footand walked away something had to wake Alexis if she did really care. This was a very good fun read. I loved the characters and a lot. I also loved the ins and outs of this story and I highly recommend.

For Better or Worse (Wedding Belles Book 2)
For Better or Worse (Wedding Belles Book 2) - Lauren Layne This book. Seriously. This was probably the wrong romance read for me with everything going on in the US election right now where you have the hero grabbing and kissing the heroine without permission mere minutes after they met and being all hey do you want to bone? He doesn't communicate his past or anything that he really wants with the heroine besides let's have sex. He gets angry if she asks any questions about a thing. Oh and he is just generally a jerk and refers to her either as assistant wedding planner or the name of her apartment. I am assuming the author meant that to be hot/cute but it wasn't. It just shows how little he really does think of the woman he supposedly fell in love with. And the ending....oh boy. That was not a happily ever after. That was a, so you are both dumb and I guess good for you? Okay, good for you. Golf clap.

Heather Fowler is an assistant wedding planner. So when she finally gets her big shot to plan a high profile wedding she is all over it. She means this wedding to be the one that has her promoted to wedding planner full stop by her boss Alexis. However, due to being woken in the middle of the night by her jerk of a neighbor (Josh Tanner), Heather starts to have the boy next door on her mind, a lot.

Heather was weak willed to the point that I was just confused by this character a lot. She talks a good game about being independent, never in love, wanting to move to NYC, making her dream of becoming a wedding planner a reality, etc. However, I saw none of that besides some words said here and there.

Actually we barely see Heather planning this once in a million wedding. We just know that she's handling the whole thing because the bride is being hands off (which is weird) and oh yeah, the bride used to date Josh (of course she did) and Heather is choosing things she would, if it was her wedding. You would think there would be some conflict there, but nope. In fact, this whole book was pretty boring from beginning to end. There was some sort of snafu that should/could have ruined things for the Belles, but it got done away with due to the too ridiculous to be believed ending.

And Josh is terrible. Even with his backstory, he is terrible. He acts like a jerk throughout the book to Heather. I didn't see one redeeming thing about the guy besides hey he's good in bed. I can't even say he's an alpha type dude since I think in most alpha romance stories you still get some development (most of the time) between the two main leads. At the end of this story the only thing I got is that Heather and Josh like pancakes, and Josh likes banana bread. I don't have an idea besides that what they believe or think about kids, marriage, religion, favorite movies, etc.

Also the age of these two would imply some maturity, but they both do really dumb things to make the other jealous and I just sighed for this book to get over quickly.

The secondary characters in this book are not really there. We have some friends/family of Josh and Heather's mother and the Belles. At least in this one there were more scenes/interaction with all of the Belles and we can already tell how book #3 is going to go with the commentary around Logan and Alexis.

The writing was good (one of the reasons why I kept this as a 2 star review) and the flow was actually okay. I just think that if the author had changed up the hero a bit, and actually show two people getting to know each other, or just didn't go with the ending she did the book would have resonated more with me. And honestly, I would have liked it more if Heather had been the one to realize she didn't need this crap from Josh. It was so surreal to see her falling for a guy who barely tolerated her asking questions. I think readers are supposed to get that Josh is falling for Heather by his checking his cell phone messages (way later in the story) but that can be read so many different ways.

Anyway, onto book #3!

To Love and to Cherish (Wedding Belles Book 3)
To Love and to Cherish (Wedding Belles Book 3) - Lauren Layne Thank goodness books #1 and #3 were so good, because book #2 almost derailed the whole thing. Of course we have Josh making appearances and showing up, and yup still a jackass so that was great (not great, not great at all) and we have previous heroes/heroines showing up, but they managed to enhance the story. I wish though that we had seen this in previous books more than we did in this one though.

Also, I liked the character of Logan, but I call BS on what he ends up doing when he doesn't get the right response from Alexis. I had some Roarke and Eve (In Death series) flashbacks and I always hated how heavy-handed Roarke was with Eve earlier on in their relationship because hey he was in love so she needed to be too and needed to just give over instead of him being patient and understanding her.

Alexis Morgan has always wanted to be a wedding planner. So when she gets the chance to make her dream a reality by agreeing to a silent partner (Logan Harris) takes him up on his offer. Cue 8 years later and Alexis looks around her and sees that her co-worker/friends are all almost coupled up. She starts to wonder if putting her business first was smart all these years. And then she realizes that her long time partner and friend Logan may be just who she needs to ease her back into the world of romance.

Logan has been pretty much in love with Alexis from first sight. We know this from books #1 and #2 and we have the first meeting of these two in book #3. I really thought out of all of the couples, Alexis and Logan made the most sense. You got the chemistry between them for days. But just like with the last book, I had some serious really issues with none of them sharing significant details with each other really until a good 3/4 of the book. It doesn't make sense since these two have known each other so long. Of course we have it that it's because Alexis is cold and business like, etc. and I was all what? I also thought that Logan's family giving him an ultimatum didn't make a lot of sense. You have a kid leaving overseas and establishing businesses and you are still oh yeah he's going to come home and live permanently one day was odd.

Also speaking of Alexis, I got that she was competent and very good at her job in books #1 and #2. All of a sudden in this one, she doesn't get how dating apps work, doesn't know how to curl her hair or put on makeup. Are you serious? I mean we have Heather I think mentioning video vloggers and I just shook my head. Alexis is at least 32 I think in this story, you are telling me you haven't heard of Tindr, OK Cupid, etc.? She's a wedding planner, it doesn't make any sense that she doesn't know of these things. I did like how Alexis finally has it out with her mother and talks to her slightly estranged sister by the end of the book though. When you do find out why Alexis swears off romance, I did feel for her a lot. I can't even imagine a scenario like the one she goes through.

The secondary characters are much more developed in this one than in previous books. We have Alexis's family and Logan's family a constant in their lives which I thought was nice. We also have appearances from the other characters. I also really didn't get a sense of camaraderie between the women in this one though. It's so odd how Heather and Brooke talk about how close they are in books #1 and #2 and Alexis is all well I work with these people. It's pretty funny to me that was her impression of things.

The writing was great and I have to say the love scenes were fantastic. I definitely enjoyed this one a lot. Logan and Alexis are very hot and I was rooting for them the whole book.

The setting in this book seems mostly focused on The Wedding Belles business (because Alexis lives upstairs) and I got a real sense of her based on her apartment and how the business looked.

The ending towards this book honestly reminded me a bit of one of Nora Roberts wedding quartet books. I also though the epilogue just glossed over a lot of things that I wanted to find out more about (Alexis and Logan's family).

Pocket Books

Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in The Wedding Belles, a contemporary and witty romance series about three high-powered New York City women who can plan any wedding—but their own.

Alexis Morgan has spent the past six years devoted to turning her tiny start-up into Manhattan’s premiere wedding planning company, The Wedding Belles. Now that her business is thriving, it’s time to turn towards her much neglected personal life, and Alexis approaches her relationships like she does everything else: with a plan. Not a part of that plan is Logan Harris, the silent partner in the Belles, and the one person who’s been there for her since the very beginning. But Alexis needs someone fun, and Logan’s all business, all the time—except when a late night at the office ends with an unexpected kiss that leaves the usually cool and together Alexis reeling.

Logan has lusted after Alexis since the day he walked into the tiny Harlem apartment that used to double as her office. But the ambitious wedding planner has always been untouchable...until now. Alexis has made it clear that she’s on the dating market—and equally clear that he’s not in the running. But when Alexis finds herself in need of a date for her sister’s last minute wedding in Florida, Logan knows it’s the perfect time to show Alexis that there’s more to him than numbers and spreadsheets—and beneath the pinstripes and glasses lies a hot-blooded heartthrob. As Florida’s sultry days turn into even hotter nights, Logan’s out to convince Alexis that the fling of a lifetime could just maybe turn into forever...

Hello.”

The sexy British accented startled Alexis out of her thoughts, and she glanced up, both alarmed and intrigued to find that the face that awaited her was every bit as appealing as the voice.

The man was about her age—early, maybe midtwenties—and ridiculously cute. His hair was dark and maybe just a touch too long, as though he intended to get a haircut but kept forgetting. The eyes were brown and friendly, accented by trendy black-framed glasses.

The chunky cable-knit sweater with elbow patches—for real—bordered on dorky, but then, Alexis had always had a soft spot for dorky. He had a bit of the Clark Kent thing going on, which had always been far more her type than the overrated Superman.

Hi,” she replied quickly, realizing that she’d been staring.

His smile grew wider as he extended a hand. “Logan Harris.”

Darn. Even the name was good.

Alexis,” she said.

Does that come with a last name?” he teased, lowering himself to the vacant barstool beside her.

Not to strange men,” she retorted.

I could buy you a drink. Get rid of the ‘strange’ part.”

Alexis’s smile slipped as she remembered that romance, even flirting, wasn’t part of her plan. She’d learned the hard way that she could have one or the other—her own business or a boyfriend—not both. And even if she wanted the latter, the latter didn’t want her back.

No thanks; I’m fine,” she said, letting the slightest amount of chill enter her voice. The ice-princess treatment, Roxanne called it.

Logan shrugged, undeterred. “All right then. May I borrow your menu?”

She nodded, and he picked it up, perusing it for several moments and paying her no attention.

It was both a relief and also a bit of an insult, if she was being entirely honest, to be given up on so easily.

Alexis tried to turn her attention back to her laptop but watched out of the corner of her eye as he finally shut the menu, waiting patiently to catch the bartender’s eye.

Hi there,” he said, when the bartender ambled back over. “I’d like a Stella, and a maybe bite to eat?”

Alexis didn’t miss the once-over that the bartender gave Logan before the curvy redhead leaned over the bar, displaying perky boobs as she clicked her pen and pulled a notepad out of her back pocket.

Shoot,” the bartender said flirtatiously, looking a good deal friendlier than she had when she’d spoken to Alexis.

Not that Alexis blamed her. A cute Brit could do that to a girl.

All right then,” Logan said. “I’d like the burger, medium, with Swiss. Fish and chips, extra tartar, and . . . how’s your chicken club?”

The bartender blinked. “It’s good. But you want all that?”

I do. Thank you.”

Suit yourself,” she said, scribbling Logan’s order on the pad.

Hungry?” Alexis couldn’t resist asking after the bartender moved away.

Logan gave a sheepish smile. “I’m a recovering student. I sometimes get so wrapped up in my day that I forget to eat.”

A recovering student. What does that mean?”

He turned slightly toward her. “Someone’s showing plenty of interest in a strange man.”

She bit her lip. “I’m sorry if I was rude before. I’m just not really in the market for . . . you know.”

He gave her an easy smile. “Everyone’s in the market for a friend, Alexis.”

She opened her mouth and then shut it as she realized he was right. She could use a friend. She’d spent her entire life in Boston and knew almost nobody in New York. This guy seemed nice and nonthreatening enough—what would be the harm in a little conversation over dinner? It had been too long since she’d had somebody to share a meal with.

Logan seemed to know the moment she capitulated, because he turned more fully toward her. “A recovering student, Alexis, is a recent graduate. One who hasn’t quite absorbed that there will be no more finals, no more requisite all-nighters, and no more dorm sex.”

Alexis laughed. “Undergrad, then?”

He gave her a wry look. “How young do I look, darling? MBA from Columbia. Just finished up end of last year.”

She felt a little stab of relief that he wasn’t twenty-two.

He leaned toward her slightly. “Twenty-five next month, just in case you were wondering. As a friend.”

She tried to hide her smile and failed. “Columbia, huh? You’re a long way from home.”

Noticed that, did ya?” He winked. “I came out here for undergrad, also Columbia. Always figured I’d go back to London and maybe someday I will, but . . .” He shrugged. “Seems I have stuff to do here first.”

Such as?” She took a sip of her wine, dismayed to see that it was half-empty.

Well, this will probably shock you, given my vast amount of brawn, but I’m an accountant. Or at least I will be, once I get my business up and running.”

Alexis was impressed. “Your own business?”

Most twentysomethings, even those with an entrepreneurial bent, opted to get a few years of work under their belts for someone else before branching out on their own.

He nodded. “I’m working out of my flat for now, but I’m hoping to lease some office space soon, get some legitimacy. If nothing else to get my father off my back.”

He’s not a fan of your plan?” Alexis asked.

Logan’s shoulder lifted, and for the first time he seemed a little sad. “Both parents have had it in their head that I’d come home. Run the family business in London.”

Which is . . . ?”

He spun his beer glass idly. “Financial consulting firm. My father’s the CEO, Mum’s the COO.”

Wow, that’s . . .”

Scary?” Logan supplied.

I was going to say impressive. That they work together—without killing each other, I mean.”

They’re in love. It’s atrocious,” he said with a wink. “What about your folks?”

Alexis laughed. “Not in love. They divorced when I was in high school. Dad’s remarried and happy now, I think. Mom not so much.”

And you?” he said. “Are you happy, Alexis?”

She pursed her lips, surprised and yet not entirely unsettled by the personal question. “It’s been a while since anyone asked me that. Since I even thought about it, really.”

Think it out. I’ll wait,” he said with a wink.

She didn’t have to think that long. “I’m almost happy.”

You sound quite confident on that.”

She shrugged. “Let’s just say that I need a few things to fall into place in my professional life, but once that happens . . . yeah. I’ll be happy.”

She’d make sure of it.

To Love and to Cherish (The Wedding Belles, #3)To Love and to Cherish by Lauren Layne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd and final book in The Wedding Belles series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and understanding, I recommend reading this fantastic series in order.

Alexis & Logan met and became business partners shortly thereafter. He has always wanted more, but her single minded business kept them from pursuing more. Alexis has secrets from her past, and they may be why they are still apart.

Logan has been in love with her for the better part of a decade. Now time has run out. He has to make a decision and make it in a hurry. Can he have both? Does he want one more than the other?

This series nearly ripped me apart! This story was so - gah. How do I describe it? These characters have been throughout the entire series and without spoiling it for you, I finally got my HEA. Then, I got notice that this is the end of the series. Heart crushing, I tell you. I cannot wait for the next book out by this author. She never disappoints!
