The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie - Wendy McClure An interesting read for anyone who loved the Little House books growing up, and desperately wanted to be Laura.

The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lo... The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie - Wendy McClure Rating after reading 28%: 2.5

This book had a lot going for it but it didn't take me anywhere. I gave up on it.

Though the idea behind this book was enticing the reality was a boring slog-fest. The author, in my opinion, failed to capture the joy, frustration, surprise, disappointment etc. that digging so deep into a childhood fascination would and I believe did bring.
I simply didn't connect either with her or the narrative.

The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie - Wendy McClure McClure, a lover of the Little House on the Prairie books, starts to research Laura Ingalls Wilder's life. It's a ramble through McClure's psyche, really, with far more information about the author than about Laura herself. But I think she did get at some of the things that make the Little House books so well-loved, and her tales of going to Little House pageants and seeing a recreated sod house are interesting.

The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie - Wendy McClure I loved the Little House books as a child and as soon as I saw the illustrations on the cover of this book, I knew I had to read it. Those illustrations have stuck with me for years. I never quite realized how much of Little House in the Big Woods nestled itself into my brain until I began reading this book and scene after scene from that book came back to me.

Unfortunately, while this book starts out strong, I think it fizzles out before the end. The author seems to lose her stride a bit. It could have benefited from a little more structure and organization, which I think would have helped keep the enthusiasm alive throughout the book.

I would also have loved the inclusion of illustrations/photographs throughout the book. I don't like reading descriptions of visual works without actually being able to see them.
