If Only I Had A Heart
If Only I Had A Heart - David M Booher

This was so cute! I enjoyed it a lot!

Canto is a small clockwork slave, who is not even supposed to have a name, let alone friends. When one of these is mortally wounded he embarks on an adventure to find replacement parts, but will also learn more about himself and the world in the process.

Like I said, I enjoyed the story and also thought the drawings were very nice.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Review: Bel Canto
Bel Canto - Ann Patchett

This novel is as lyrical, engaging, and wonderfully charactered as you've heard. The epilogue is also as terrible as you've heard. (You have my permission to skip it.)

I have nothing to add, other than I would've loved to have seen more internal strife within the group and within the characters than we were provided after the initial set up. Some complacency is expected, but I thought this was a bit too relaxed.

Bel Canto
Bel Canto - Ann Patchett

DNF @ p.50.

I just could not get invested in the story or the characters. Then I came to a point where Alex, the opera singer, performs just after the entire party has been taken hostages.

I'm sorry, but I can't suspend my disbelief enough to buy that people who have just been taken hostage by a group of automatic-rifle-slinging terrorists would give a damn about a musical performance, never mind appreciate the finer points of opera.

Erm. Next.

Reading progress update: I've read 42 out of 319 pages.
Bel Canto - Ann Patchett

Eh?

I may need to look up what the rules are for DNFs in the BL-Opoly game. I'm not finding any interest in this story or any of the characters at all.

Sconsigliato.
