The Flesh Cartel #4: Consequences - Rachel Haimowitz

*Book source ~ NetGalley

This is the continuation of Dougie and Mat’s story of how they were kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery. They have begun their training with Nikolai who must mold them into the perfect submissives before they are sent off to their new Master.

It’s not the story, it’s definitely me. I’m just not interested in Dougie and Mat’s dilemma anymore. I don’t know if it’s all the psychological stuff, all the internal debate, Nikolai or it’s just not moving fast enough for me, but I’m done with this series. It’s still well-written with great characters, but apparently my tastes have changed. Don’t let my ennui put you off reading this series.

The Flesh Cartel #3: Choices - Rachel Haimowitz

*Book source ~ NetGalley

Mat and Dougie have survived (barely) the flesh auction and head to the home of their new Master’s professional trainer, Nikolai Petrovic. Only they don’t know that until they get there. Each brother doesn’t even know where the other is even though they are traveling in the same RV. Is life about to get harder for them? Or will they escape?

I’m not finding this series as enthralling as I did when I started. It’s still compelling and the writing is great, but maybe my tastes have changed. I want the brothers to escape their situation, but I’m not getting much hope to cling to. Maybe that’s the problem. They didn’t sign up for any of this, so I want to see them triumph over the bad guys, but it’s just not happening fast enough for me. If it ever does? I’m not sure. I probably wouldn’t continue except I have the next section from NetGalley. Maybe things will look up for the brothers then.

Bodyguards of Pleasure [Pleasure, Montana 8] (Siren Publishing Menage Everlasting) - Melody Snow Monroe

*Book source ~ NetGalley

Brooke Armstrong is a nerd with her own computer store, but when she witnesses a murder she ends up with two hunky bodyguards. Gavin Kirkwood and Riley Landon have lusted after Brooke since they moved to Pleasure, Montana, but they’ve been a bit busy settling in to ask her out. When Brooke finds out she’s the center of these two hot guys’ fanatasies she doesn’t understand why they want her overweight nerdy self. The guys just need to convince her they want her all while keeping her safe from a murderer. Multitasking is their middle name.

The characters are the best part of this story. They each have their good and bad points and they’re fairly believable. However, the plot is a long stretch of the imagination and for professionals the guys are incredibly awful at protection. I wouldn’t trust them to watch my plants after seeing them in action in this book. The writing is clunky, the dialogue is stilted and the BDSM is so-so. The sex scenes themselves aren’t bad though. All-in-all this story is just meh. I have no interest in reading the rest of the series.

Needs lots of work
The Awakening: Book One of the Chronicles of the Nubian Underworld - Shakir Rashaan

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Set in the Atlanta area this BDSM story is about Ramesses (AKA Kane) and his wife Neferterri (AKA Mercedes) and their life as a Dom and Domme with their 3 submissives.

I had to DNF this story at 40% because there really wasn’t anything going on except lots of sex with various people. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I was expecting more of a story from the blurb. The characters have zero depth and yet their emotions seemed totally out of whack most of the time, going from calm to batshit crazy in .30 seconds and back again. The dialogue is stilted, the timeline is wonky, and there are no transitions between chapters. I couldn’t get any kind of grasp on when this story was taking place. In addition, the author broke the fourth wall and then went back to the story as if nothing happened. Was this supposed to be a memoir? Or is it a fictional story? I have no clue. Also, Ramesses comes across as an arrogant asshole, talking down as if the reader is a drooling moron who knows nothing about the BDSM community and he’s oh so superior because he’s a Dom. I have no idea if that’s what the author intended, but that’s the vibe I got, so I ended up really disliking Ramesses. At 40%, after a dumb scene outside a club, I had to toss in the white towel in exasperation and call it quits.

Wicked Wednesday
The Siren - Tiffany Reisz

*Book source ~ Gifted

Nora Sutherlin is a notorious writer of steamy erotica and she’s trying to get her newest book published with respectable publisher, Royal House Publishing. She wants their best editor, the young and handsome British fuddy duddy Zach Easton, to edit her book, but he wants nothing to do with the purveyor of smut. However, they strike a deal and if he likes her book by the time she’s rewritten it and he’s edited it then he’ll sign her contract. But there’s more going on in both their lives than just a book. Who will be the victor in this butting of heads?

This book had been on my TBR since 2012 and while I was intrigued enough to stick it on that shelf there was always something telling me I wouldn’t like it so I kept pushing it further down the list. At the urging of friends who loved it and a gifted copy I decided to give it a go.

It started off pretty good. I liked all the characters, the writing was great and there was some mystery and witty dialogue. And then Nora does some shit that I find reprehensible. On top of that, she can’t seem to have a normal conversation. Everything out of her mouth, and I mean everything, is some kind of sexual reference or innuendo and frankly it got so incredibly tedious I wanted to just slap some duct tape over her mouth for the rest of the book. Or maybe sew her lips shut since she loves pain so damn much.

I started out hating Søren and liking everyone else, but by the end of the book Søren was the only true-to-himself character and everyone else were just fucked up liars. I would never be friends with Søren, but at least he was honest. Oh, and don’t get me started on the “twist” to Nora’s story. Can I just say how moronic it was and leave it at that? I rolled my eyes so hard I thought they would fall out of my head, roll across the floor and the cats would bat them around for fun. I’m done. Do I need to say I will not be continuing with this series? I’m so disillusioned I’m not even sure I want to try anything else by this new-to-me author.
