review SPOILER ALERT! 2015-07-07 16:30
Ringar på svart vatten by Gull ÅKerblom
Ringar på svart vatten - Gull Åkerblom

Ben and his family moves to an old house where years ago a priest and his family was living in. But then the son disappeared and many in the village thought that the father killed him.

Ben feels that there is something weird with the house as soon as he steps through the door. Is the place haunted?

First and foremost. I really, really enjoyed the book for the most part, around 2/3 was really good. I liked Ben and his family and that he felt like a changeling. That reminded me a lot of Agnes Cecilia by Maria Gripe. His relationship with Alba was sweet. She goes from being the unreachable girl to someone very close to him and it seems that the book that feels out pf place is finally finding his place in the world.

But to the part of the book that bothered me. That made my brood at work today. The case with the missing young man, Jacob Ek. That was the weak part of the book because I didn't find any good reason for the killer to kill him. First, I thought Geir killed Jacob for being the person behind his daughter suicide, then I remembered that she killed herself after he disappeared. I mean Geir didn't know his daughter Clara was pregnant and that Jacob was the father. He only found out 17 years later. So, the only motive I can think of is that he knew that she was seeing Clara and that he wanted to stop that for some reason, but he also didn't seem to dislike Jacob in any way. And, the letter that Geir writes to his granddaughter to explain everything is never opened. Gah! I also didn't understand the reason for giving the child away for adoption, why was it a big secret when it came to her own family, well unless Clara supected that her father killed her boyfriend, hell her father could have killed her also, now when I think about it. Too many loose ends...

I gave the book 4 stars yesterday, when I started to write the review was down to 3.5 stars and now have I settled with 3 star, Because even though 2/3 of the book was really good, and the writing was as usual great was the ending just so frustrating that I can't give it 4 stars in rating.

Reading progress update: I've read 24 out of 222 pages.
Ringar på svart vatten - Gull Åkerblom

A Swedish book by one of my favorite YA authors. I usually don't read YA that much, but when I saw that Gull Åkerblom had written a new book and a book that in the blurb said reminded of Maria Gripes books didn't I hesitate. I had to borrow it from the library.

The title in English is "Rings on Black Water" and it's a book about a haunted house and a young boy called Ben that moves to it with his family. It's up to him to find out why the house is haunted.
