Sean Crisden saved the day on this one...
Memories of the Heart (Memories #1) - Sean Crisden,Felice Stevens

I'm getting reviewed out here and truthfully I listened to this one because I felt like it and for no other reason...thank you once again Audible.com Romance Package. So I'm going to try and keep this one short and sweet.

First off there are already some really good reviews out there for this book both for and against so to speak. Truthfully for me the story was maybe 2 or 2.5 stars with the rest of the stars that make up my 3 stars rating being for Sean Crisden and the awesome job that he did on the narration of this one.

I needed the story to be a little tighter...which translates to a bit shorter to get rid of some of what felt like repetitive thoughts/ideas/conversations. I needed Micah to just generally be different...not as whiny, with a more believable transition to being the kind, courteous person that he became.

I needed the 2 hospital administrators who were such huge dicks to just generally not exist because along with just generally being a**holes, they were TSTL!!!

And let's not even discuss Josh's ex and his sister who owned/ran the coffee shop where Josh worked because truthfully I'm not sure which one of these two idiots I liked less and then we have Micah's best friend Alex and Rafe the vet who took care of the dog that Josh found...seriously I probably liked these two characters the most and we saw them the least.

So, quick summary I loved the narration on this because Sean Crisden...he's another fave of mine, the story was good in theory and fell short in execution and book #2 'One Step Further' and #3 'The Greatest Gift' are both centered around Alex and Rafe...so bizarre as it seems because I really liked these two men, I'm probably going to at least give 'One Step Further' a chance to see how it goes and then we'll see if there's a book #3 in my future.

Not for Me.
Memories of the Heart - Felice Stevens

What was I thinking? I read Memories #2 first and thought the two MCs were one of the sweetest couples I'd met in a while. The only thing that f'ed up their story was the return of their friends. The whole thing became melodramatic and silly. Zap to today, I read this book that starts out okay but gets silly and melodramatic - sound familiar? - I realizes these are the two friends that drove me nuts in book #2. Josh was okay but Micah is one of the most dislikable characters I've encountered in a while. Felice uses NYC very well in her stories and in my opinion she should let NYC be even an even stronger presences in future writings.
I feel bad but I was so glad when this one ended.

Halleluja!!! I could not have read this book without Sean Crisden narrating this... His different voices for the grandma's was great.

But man, the story was tiresome.
I didn't like Micah at all. He was an annoying, whining girl!! I was ready to throw him under the bus. Chappeau for Josh for putting up with him.

That's it....

Can love warm a heart of ice?
Memories of the Heart - Felice Stevens

Dr. Micah Steinberg meets Josh Rosen through their grandmothers, who are friends.  Josh's grandma send Micah a letter reminding him he needs to visit his only living relative.  He is angry at her interfering and goes over to the residence where the two old ladies live in assisted living.  Josh is there.

Life has thrown a lot at Josh.  He gives up his future plans to come back to New York to take care of his grandmother.  He needed somewhere to go since his partner at work and home cheated on him.  After meeting Micah, he struggles with wanting to start a relationship with a man who does not want one.

Micah turns Josh away, and hurts him in the process.  Micah is struggling with the strong feelings he already is developing after only one night with him.  He tries to convince himself he does not need anyone.

Josh is a force of nature by himself.  Micah is busy with his career and maybe going to be even busier if he takes a new position he is being offered.  Can he fit true love in?

I was not sure where this book was going to go.  I found myself sucked in by the great characters who were developing right before my eyes as I was reading.  There was so much honesty, heat, and fear that it felt very real.  I give this book a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

A Red Heart of Memories - Nina Kiriki Hoffman This is a follow-up to A Stir of Bones - about 10 years later. Something happened soon after the last book and a new character, Matt Black, meets Edmund and leads him to find old friends and confront their past. There's a lot of wish fulfillment magic/fantasy - comforting, but also cloying.
