Missing the Magic
PUPS - The Case Of The Loathsome Lunches: (The Adventures Of A Third Grade Werewolf) (PUPS - The Adventures Of A Third Grade Werewolf) (Volume 2) - Mr R Jackson-Lawrence

In Pups #2 The Case of the Loathsome Lunches by R. Jackson-Lawrence, we are reunited with our favorite crime solving werewolves: Jessica, Kiera, Hannah, William and Oliver. While at their Monday assembly at school, they are introduced to the new school cook, Oliver James.

Mrs. Taylor informs the students that they will now be receiving free gourmet meals prepared especially for them by the Cockney Cook himself.

The children could not be more excited when their eyes beheld the wondrous sights that were to be their lunch. Pizzas, burgers, ice cream, cake and other delectable delights covered the table. Plates were piled high and some students even went back for seconds!

However, the next day at school, Jessica noticed that her classmates were acting very strangely. They were all raising their hands and correctly answering every question that Mrs. Haversham asked! Not to mention the fact that everyone remains silent at recess.

Oliver soon discovers that the other students are beginning to look the same. They are wearing their hair and clothes the same way, walking the same way and talking in unison. What is going on?

Could there be something in the new food causing their classmates to act like robots? And why aren’t Jessica, Kiera, Hannah, William and Oliver being affected? It is up to these wily werewolves to solve the mystery and save their classmates.

While I greatly enjoyed the first Pups book, I was somewhat disappointed with the second installment. I did not find the plot as gripping as felt that the established werewolf characters were a bit flat. Additionally, I found numerous grammatically errors and repetitions phrases.

The silver lining comes in form of an unexpected plot twist that turns into a second mystery which remains unsolved. My interest is definitely piqued and I am curious to see what the next book in the series has to offer.

Praise for Pups
PUPS - The Case Of The Horrifying Headmaster: (The Adventures Of A Third Grade Werewolf) (PUPS - The Adventures Of A Third Grade Werewolf Book 1) - Robert Jackson-Lawrence

The Case of the Horrifying Headmaster is the debut book in the Pups series, which follows the adventures of five children…who just happen to be werewolves!

We are introduced to Jessica, an eight year old girl who is disappointed about having to move to a different town. More importantly, she is worried about her new school. What if her fellow classmates discover her secret?

Once a month, on the night of the full moon, Jessica turns into a werewolf. Not the type that you see in scary movies. But a friendly werewolf who loves to run through parks chasing rabbits.

Her father has discovered the perfect place for her moonlight runs: Swanholme Park. However, on Jessica’s first night in the park, she hears the howling of other wolves! Struck with fear, Jessica cannot decide if she should try to meet the wolves or head back home to her safe bed.

Meanwhile, there is a mysterious new headmaster at Sunny Brook Academy: Mr. Alucard. Jessica has noticed that he looks very pale and tries to avoid sunlight at all costs. Plus, children that have been called into Mr. Alucard’s office have ended up disappearing from school for weeks!

Can Jessica help solve the mystery while keeping her secret hidden?

The Case of the Horrifying Headmaster is an intriguing tale of mystery and fantasy. Young readers will enjoy the creative characters and page turning plot.

Pups in Tea Cups: Tales of "Littleness" ... Pups in Tea Cups: Tales of "Littleness" overcoming BIG odds - Carolyn McCray Originally posted on my blog."Pups in Tea Cups" initially caught my attention as it was free on Amazon a while ago. And since I am planning on having a cute little dog sometime in the future, I told myself it might be interesting to read. Now this book is actually a collection of stories of dogs that the author, being a veterinarian, has treated or adopted during her career. Some of them are very inspirational, funny and/or cute, but some I found boring and repetitive. The thing is that this book is a perfect choice for anyone who wants to own a little dog, as it opens up your eyes to certain things. McCray refers to this type of dog's behaviour as "littleness", which has both its positive and negative aspects. For instance, these dogs are usually very stubborn, require much attention and love, but can also bring miracles into the family. All in all, I really enjoyed this book and at least I know now what to expect when I finally get the dog of my dreams.
