'Depravity' is so dark, interesting and wonderfully written that it was stupid of me to doubt the author at the beginning. I have only read Winter Queen before this and I haven't read any classic version of Beauty and the Beast; only the disney movie and another retelling of it by Sara J. Maas entitled A Court of Thorns and Roses. Haag's take on Beauty and the Beast will draw you to its unique story and will leave you to wanting for more. I assure you!

While reading through the chapters, I have quite a few laughs. I don't know if it was supposed to be funny though and I was so absorbed to this book, flipping through its pages and reading every word eagerly that I didn't even notice the mistakes and finished the book in one sitting! Oh, the last part. It was torture. The cliffhanger was torture. In fact, I thought it was missing a few pages and cursed my Kindle app for being crappy.

The author did a wonderful job on the world building; everything I saw through reading was so clear and well thought throughout. I loved everything although some scenes were slightly disturbing, I loved it nonetheless. Melissa Haag 'owned' it! I even have a book hangover until now!

I will say no more because I'm terrified I might give everything away, but you must know that I highly recommend this book!!

Minkman has written an absolutely beautiful story that you won't be able to put the book down. This book was narrated from a different perspective. The changes in perspectives and new set of characters contributed greatly and will not disappoint. The intense plot and shocking revelations brought out strong mixed emotions in me that kept me hooked throughout. I say, Light of Lorelei is so much better than Sound of Sirens.

Minkman shows the story about a child born from forbidden relations between a Skylger man and an Anglian woman. The child whom the society scorned, dedicated her life to serve the convent in atonement for her parents sins by the mercy of the Baeles-Weards. Aska was a character I'd come to love throughout the story. In spite of her situation, she still manages to think more than just herself and her character improved greatly throughout. I wish I was courageous as her.

When I started reading this, I got hooked onto the story at the first sentence because of my amusement. I thought that if Sauron from The Hobbit was involved, it would be epic! Also, the part "They don't speak, they shriek." It was incredibly funny ... or was it just me? I hope not!

Instances, some I guessed correctly and some caught me off guard. I can only imagine them being best friends although I have nothing against Melinda's homosexuality. On the other hand, I was a bit upset with Aska and Tjalling's relationship at first because it somehow screams instant love. I relaxed when there was some explanation for that, but...

Holy Fire. Tjalling. Oh my god.

The previous characters have active roles as well in this book and the questions left hanging from the first book has been answered. This is one of the best books I'd read this year so far and has a special place in my heart.

'Fire of Fryslan' is narrated from two perspectives; Melinda and Dani. It took me a while to remember who Dani is, but reading from her perspective I finally discovered who she was. This book immediately took after the last part of Light of Lorelei in which the two perspectives shown how the Skylgers and Currents reacted towards the disappearance of St. Branda's Fire.

It made so much sense reading this book because Sound of Sirens didn't have much away on how the Skelta works. Dani's an active participant, so I enjoyed reading about the rebellion especially on how she teamed up with someone to convince many people to join their cause. Melinda's involvement was led by her dire actions and even though it was like that I admired her very much.

I cried. We all know that wars like this would always have casualties, but the unexpected turn of events really made me cry a lot. I immediately stopped crying because my sister said that she was going to take a picture of me. Crying. Eh.

All in all, I loved how these two girls didn't know that they were both brave and I'm glad that they have got to know each other. Their relationship is one of the strangest and loveliest story I'd ever read. I can't say it's a perfect ending; it might be for some of the characters, but some not. Nevertheless, I'm really happy how it ended. This book is amazing. The cover is amazing. Read the book!

I am sad to bid farewell to this series, but I am also happy that I'd been a part of this journey. I recommend this book to everyone and I hope you love it as much as I do.

Minkman's book, Sound of Sirens, is an enthralling story filled with secrets, sirens and a blooming forbidden romance between two people of two different worlds.

On the island of Skylge, the Skylgers struggle each day because they have no electricity and stand mostly defenseless when the Nixen attack. The Currents are the opposite of Skylgers; they live in fortified high-rise apartment buildings, they have loud music that drowns out the merfolk call and ultimately, they have electricity. In addition, the Currents protect the people by the bright, shining light of the Brandaris Tower. Thus, the Skylgers, the original settlers of the island, are underlings of the Currents because of that. It’s quite ironic, isn’t it?

Enna and Royce met officially when her brother, Sytse, came home and brought her a record from the mainland. She was confronted by Royce because he wants the LP and it was the only copy the ship brought in. Enna wouldn’t sell it to him for it was a gift, so they agreed to meet in secret. She will bring the LP and Royce will play it on his record player so that they both can enjoy the music. Then, one night when Enna was going home from Royce’s cottage she sees a shadow figure coming out of the old hut. It was her brother.

What was he doing? Why was he there? What is he hiding?

I am a sucker for romances especially in books that have forbidden love because it makes everything more exciting and dangerous, don't you think? The couple's pain, sacrifices and struggles for their love - bittersweet. Just as I like it.

‘Sound of Sirens’ is a refreshing, captivating read and is definitely one of my favourites. I highly recommend this book! The author’s writings never fail to captivate me and make me feel as if I am experiencing it first-hand through reading, in any of her books. That said, Minkman did a wonderful job by including the music that you can hear and feel it as well while reading. A different feeling for every song.

I loved how Minkman has written the family's relationship and roles. It wasn't just the title or label of being a family member, but she also shown the interaction between all of them. Minkman clearly depicted how a specific family member do, think and act in its own way. I agree with their decision on why they hid things from Enna. They know her so much and she stubbornly denies that she would act impulsively. A few pages later, my reaction was like, "Oh well would you look at that. She couldn't keep it without blurting out a thing for a week or two".

On a different note, I am happy to see how Enna and Royce's relationship progressed. I wasn't instant love and there is no love triangle. Yay! The last chapters of the book were challenging for them both. I wonder what are they planning to do next. I'm so thrilled!

Minkman ended this book with a lot of questions unanswered. I just hope I will get answers when I read the next book, Light of Lorelei!
