Closet Case - K.M. Neuhold

Fortunately calibre can deal with .mobi (*grumble*amazon*grumble*)... but I for some reason I'm kind of fixated by the eyebrows on the cover, especially since everything else is so very very beige.

Synopsis:

Jax
That awkward moment when you accidentally fool around with a closet case. I have a strict
policy against dating closeted guys. Confused straight guys? Absolutely. Guys who don’t mind
being out and proud? Duh. But closet cases are a hard pass. Been there, done that, have the t-
shirt with a giant picture of a broken heart on it. It would be a lot easier to stick to my dating rule
if Matthew Hart could be slightly less irresistible.
Matthew
Being a closeted gay college football player is not all it’s cracked up to be. After I broke my high
school boyfriend’s heart by refusing to come out of the closet, I swore off serious dating. I don’t
want to hurt anyone like that again, and I’ll admit I’m protecting my own heart in the process,
too. It was a lot easier to stick to my no dating rule before I laid eyes on Jax Greene. He’s
exactly my type in every possible way. If there’s even the slightest chance that history won’t
repeat itself, I want to see where things might lead. Convincing Jax to give me a chance though
might be the toughest play I’ve ever made.

** My Review **

I’m pretty sure Sexy Nerd Boys is my guilty pleasure. I swear I gleefully fly through each one of these books in a day. Once I start I don’t stop until I am finished. Closet Case was no exception.

Matthew and Jax were so freaking cute and I really liked them together. I really loved Jax’s upbeat attitude and sense of humor, and I especially loved just how comfortable Jax was in his own skin. On the flip side of that, I appreciated seeing Matthew’s journey too. I couldn’t imagine the pressures and worries one might have in coming out. But I do think stories like this one that openly explores issues like this help us all get a better idea, which is a wonderful thing.

We also got to see little bits with the others couples we’ve come to love from past books, which is always cool…and that Epilogue…AMAZING!! I look forward to seeing what comes next!

HARD TO RESIST BY: K.M. NEUHOLD
Hard to Resist (Sexy Nerd Boys) (Volume 3) - K.M. Neuhold

Hard to Resist was full of steamy nerdiness! What I really liked about this addition was that Ravi and Hadley were first and foremost best friends. I love a good friends to more romance story. Sparks were definitely flying when these two got together. I quite enjoyed the sweet moments too, where it really came through just how well they knew each other and how much they thought of one another.

I wasn’t always impressed with how Ravi handled things with Hadley, or most people in his life. I get that he didn’t want to hurt anyone, but by lying and sneaking it was inevitable that someone was going to get hurt. In the end though, I think he hurt himself more than anyone else, so it was hard to stay mad with him. And after he wrote Hadley that sexy story, I was like where can I find my own Ravi?!

I enjoyed the whole dynamic between Hadley, her brother and Ravi. It was sweet how close they all were. I am curious to see more of Chase too. I kept finding myself wondering what he was off doing each time he disappeared. Ohhh and PLEASE tell me there will be a book for Mathew because he is my new favorite! I need for him to find someone super nerdy and awesome too! All in all it was a good addition to the series and I look forward to seeing what comes next!

NAUGHTY ANGEL BY: K.M. NEUHOLD
Naughty Angel (Sexy Nerd Boys Book 2) - K.M. Neuhold

I really enjoyed this book! I really enjoy when a sequel comes along that really brings that wow factor, and that was definitely this book for me. Everything about this book was on point for me. It had a slower paced building romance, which always makes me happy, some laugh out loud moments, and a plot line that didn't read exactly like a million other NA romances. I find myself more and more coming to expect certain things to happen in a romance book, like for example I always find myself looking for that point in the story where the characters will break things off for some misunderstanding (usually near the 65%-75% mark, YOU KNOW exactly what I am talking about so don't play coy with me here) and then come back together right before the end for the HEA. And that's all fine and dandy, not knocking that story line, but as I said, I've actually gotten to the point where I expect and search that point of in a romance book. So when the author throws something different at you and surpasses those expectations, I am always pleasantly surprised by this, and believe kudos are due. Variety is the spice of life after all, is it not? And it keeps me humble lol. There is something to be said for getting knocked off your know-it-all high horse sometimes. So thanks for that Neuhold, I need that now and again!

screw your high horse

I can also say that Asher and Eve are my new favorite characters in this series as well. I really enjoyed watching Eve come out of her shell. And Asher was the perfect guy to help her along in doing so. I thought he was incredibly sweet with her, even though he had a devilish tongue at times. I actually liked that he was one of those people that would just tell it how it is, and not be shy about saying naughty things, even though he was taking things slower with Eve and trying to establish connections on a deeper level. His corny jokes were freaking amazing too! I am a total nerd for puns, the cheesier, the better! He was kind of a dream guy for me!!

punny

I thought that this book wasn't as emotionally intense as the previous one, which was kind of a relief. That's not to say that there wasn't any intense parts, because there definitely is, but it was nice to not have as much of the high anxiety feels throughout, at least not back to back. I'm also handing out a stellar head nod to Neuhold for taking on a topic like religion and doing it in a way that wasn't slamming one side or the other, and inflaming a hot topic issue. I thought it was done brilliantly and I respected a story about someone just growing up and becoming an adult and finding their own way and opinions. That is such a HUGE part in becoming a grown up. Being able to make your own informed decisions about your life, beliefs, and goals. I really like the inclusion of things like that into a story like this. It's something universally relatable when you look at the bigger picture. I really look forward to seeing what this author comes up with next, and which characters will be the stars of the next book! This one was a great book all around and I have some high expectations for the rest of the series at this point!

WORTH THE WAIT BY: K.M. NEUHOLD
Worth the Wait (Sexy Nerd Boys, 1) - K.M. Neuhold

Worth the Wait was a great contemporary romance! I absolutely love the nerding out that was happening in this story! Even though I have never actually seen Dr. Who (I know, I know, it's on my to-be watched list, people!) I can totally respect the level of fandom Abby and Ethan had for their beloved show! Prepare to be bombarded with some Dr. Who goodness in this review, in honor of Abby and Ethan!

Abby was pretty prickly in the beginning of this story, she could come off as kind of callous at times. There were a few different occasions where I wanted to shake her a little and tell her to just stop.

As her demons were slowly revealed you did get a better understanding of why she was the way she was, and it made a lot of sense. She was someone I didn't really fall in love with right away, but as she started letting down her walls, I started to come around. I felt really terrible about some of her circumstances, and ultimately I wanted to see her find happiness in life.

Now lets talk about Ethan.

hot hot hot gif

Ok, there was so much more to him than that, but it had to be said! I loved so much about Ethan. Although in the beginning, he did follow that familiar man-whore, New Adult trend. I will say that in this instance I actually pitied him though, he was like a piece of meat to these women! Pretty quickly you start to see there is much more to him and you really can't help but falling for him. He was so gentle, patient, and sweet with Abby. I loved how he treated her, even when she wasn't the most deserving of his kindness. The fact that they really bonded over their shared Dr. Who nerdom was just too freaking cute!

The secondary characters were also pretty awesome in this story, which is always a HUGE plus for me. I loathe a bunch of bland filler characters whose sole purpose is to make the main characters look better in comparison. This was definitely not the case here. I especially liked Ethan's sister, Lee. I actually enjoyed seeing Lee dealing with some heavy stuff of her own. It was clear this author spent a lot of time cultivating these multi-layered characters, it really came through brilliantly in this story.

Worth the Wait dealt with a lot of serious issues and struggles, and I really dug that. Everything felt very realistic and I appreciated the care she took in talking about these issues, and also how each character handled their problems. I loved that no one "fixed" anyone with their love. Each issue was meet with a realistic solution, that took bravery, tons of self reflection, and work. No true love bandaids here!! Hooray! I thought there was a pretty diverse set of struggles that can easily be relatable in one way or another to most people, which is also pretty cool. Besides the heavier aspects of this book, there was a lot of sweet moments, and quite a few laugh out loud moments, which I ALWAYS appreciate in a story. So be prepared to basically feel a wide range of emotions while reading this story!

All in all this was a great start to a series that I am really looking forward to reading more of!! Bring on the Sexy Nerd Boys!!!
