Day 13 - Your favorite writer

I don’t like these “pick one” things. I read enough that of course I have more than one favorite author. So let me at least do a top four. With a couple of my favorite books of theirs listed, as well.

  • Stephen King (It, Lisey’s Story)
  • Kurt Vonnegut (Slaughterhouse 5, Mother Night)
  • Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho, Imperial Bedrooms)
  • Tanith Lee (Tales of the Flat Earth, Volkhavaar)

Day 01 - Best book you read last year

Rest assured I read a lot of amazing books, but this one has to be mentioned. I’d never read Vonnegut in my life, and I picked this up on a whim, because I remembered a friend of mine who swore by him and this book in particular. I figured even if I didn’t like it, I will have read a classic, so it’s a win no matter what.

I loved it. This is one of those times when a reader comes busting out with an annoying this-book-changed-my-life story, but it did. I’ve been reading Vonnegut like a woman possessed since then, and it was one of those times when I felt I’d found a writer who “got” me, even if that wasn’t his intention at all. Vonnegut is sincere, hilarious, and fearless, and reading this… well… changed my life.
