Favorite book(s) of the month: Bone Dry, Of High Treason

Books started this month but haven't finished yet: Scintillate, No & Ich, Touching Fate

HOLY HECKLES.
I'm seriously in shock of how many books I read this month. Cause personally I felt like I didn't get anything done. But here it is. I read 9 books this month. Super proud of myself since it's probably the most books I have read in a month. And they were all pretty good. Not all of them were my favorites but I still really enjoyed it.

Tortured Life!!!
Tortured Life - Dan Watters,Caspar Wijngaard,Neil Gibson

First things first: I received an ARC through NetGalley.

I really enjoyed this story, even though it sounds pretty weird, cause the story and the graphics were sometimes really bloody and disturbing. I couldn't really connect with the characters but it was a quick and easy read and I didn't feel like wasting my time. Sometimes the text (the red/black for the bloodyman demon thingy) were hard to read, or maybe that's just me cause I read it with a terrible headache.

I'm gonna go and google some puppy pics now, after all the blood and brains and guts I just saw.

Creepy
Tortured Life - Dan Watters,Caspar Wijngaard,Neil Gibson

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

From Goodreads:

Richard is having a bad year. He’s lost his job, lost his girlfriend, put on weight… and developed the ability to see the deaths of everyone around him. Plagued by horrific premonitions, he decides to end it all, but there are old and powerful forces at work that have their own plans for his power. Pitched into a world of eldritch horror that lurks just beneath the surface of London’s civilized veneer, the only chance Richard has of finding peace is to unravel the mysteries of his own past. He’s having a really, really bad year.

This graphic novel is visually appealing. Well, for me, the gory parts aren’t so much, but you know what I mean. Horror isn’t my main genre. It’s not even in the top five, but I like the artwork. What? I’m no art aficionado. I don’t wax poetic about shit.  I like stuff or I don’t. Horror fans will probably swoon over it though.

The story is an interesting one. Poor Richard has suddenly developed the ability to see how everyone dies. It’s practically driven him ‘round the bend. His life is shot to hell. He’s tried to end it all, but hasn’t. Then Alice comes to him. But so does the Bloodyman. Next thing Richard knows his life has spiraled even further out of control, but at least he finally gets some answers. The door closes on this story. I’m told it’s meant to be a standalone and it is. However, there is a possibility of a sequel in the works. In the words of Spock…Fascinating.

Tortured Life
Tortured Life - Dan Watters,Caspar Wijngaard,Neil Gibson

Since I'm enjoying Twisted Dark so much I thought: let's try something else by Neil Gibson.

Richard has been having a bad year. It started with animals, but soon expanded to everyone he sees. Schrödinger like, he sees them both alive and dead. Obviously freaked out by this, he excludes himself more and more from daily life, until he meets a special girl.

The beginning was so good! I really thought it was going to be one of the best reads of the year. The premise was very good. Unfortunately it then turned into more of a generic storyline that just couldn't interest me that much. I still enjoyed reading it, but it was less than I expected. That's why I gave three stars.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
